Withoiut Bale and Lennon we were still better than Everton.

If we were better than Everton then we would of had 3 points .... simples !!!

The fact is that once you take away our star players Bale, Lennon, Defoe, Dembele etc we are an average Premiership team we have no strength in depth !!!
Look at all our recent signings Sigardsson, Dempsey and Holtby (who just seems to run round like  a headless chicken) just aren't good enough to get us into the top 4 let alone challenge for the title.
Mr Levy has alot to answer for by trying to do things on the cheap and AVB, who I have slowly started to have some respect for, need to understand we don't have the squad to challenge for all competitions and select competitions and games to win.

Baldbloke is basically right if albeit a little extreme !!!

Man U just signed a 15 million a season deal for their training ground naming rights. I doubt we can even get £15m for our main shirt sponsors.
Man city and Chelsea burn money for fun. These team are in a different league to us when it comes to finance.

We have got to be realistic, yes it sucks. But that how football is now day. Levy out and a billionair owner in? Who to say there are any billionaire who want to buy and invest?

Yes our squad is getting a little thin, but the same can be said about Ars*nal, Everton and Liverpool. Fact is we posted a loss this year and The money just isn't in the game any more.

To be honest our squard is as good as it has ever been. Just stick on fifa 09 and check what we had then compared to now

FYI baldy said Bale should had been sold for attending the birth of his child

Well we will soon be clear where Spurs will finish huge games coming up can Spurs get 3 points at Chelsea and 3 points against City? well the truth is we have to win most of the games and really cannot afford to lose any!

With regard to Baldbloke he laid down his prediction at the start thats what he felt if he gets it right we all got it wrong!!!!! :-[

Baldy start out predicting we be bottom half of the table.

Of course not; I've seen Spurs pay badly and win and I've seen Spurs play brilliantly and lose. It is not just about playing well or badly but also luck. We were the better side; simples. All teams need luck, a great deal of luck. They can't do it just on skill alone.

I think a quick look at our goals against column, both home and away, and you can see that luck dosen't really come into it. Poor defending for a number of key games is the real reason we have fallen away yet again.

You make good points, however, that doesn't mean we can't finish 2nd, 3rd or 4th. We fight for one reason; how we end up at the end of the season.

In the cold light of day I wonder if it is better NOT to finish in the top four. Let's be honest, we are never going to win the CL, and the money the club generates will only be split between the major shareholders. Those of you who think Levy would invest the money in the squad, don't really understand him. Te Europa league however isn't totally out of our reach, and the games are on terrestrial TV.

Just in case anyone wondered, this is my way of cheering myself up !!

In the cold light of day, after last nights disappointment, it was brutally obvious to me that we dont have the quality in our squad to beat the likes of Basel ( admittedly a decent side ) let alone compete with the CL teams.

For once, I find myself agreeing with Baldy. Whether or not we finish in the top 4 an overhaul of our 25 man squad is needed, as it would seem that all along we have depended on one Gareth Bale to get us where we are at this moment in time. Our very best 11, all playing to their potential are a match for most teams. Unfortunately when it comes to the crunch we fall away badly. Last night was all about effort, and not much else. They gifted us 2 goals, and we returned the favour.
AVB must be wondering what he is going to have to do to avoid going the way of our last half dozen or so managers next season. I really believe its that serious.

I'll repeat what I said on another thread:

I thought that last nights game proved they can do well without Lennon, Defoe, Bale etc. Don't forget that we only lost on penalties and that is just a lottery. Nobody expected us to get two goals and if it wasn't for one of our players being sent off the match could have ended in our favour. In fact FC Basle couldn't even beat a 10 man team. That says something for Spurs against a top European team who beat some good teams. So congratulations to Spurs for doing so well.

Spurs fought well and played well and got the two goals they needed and probably could have won if we didn't lose one of our players. On top of that we were playing away and against a team that hadn't been beaten at home since August.

Doing well mate is winning. Despite our injuries, the value of the team we put out last night was still twice that of Basel. I was condemned at the beginning of he season for saying we have little depth, and now I am being proved right (as usual). The fact is that we can't get passed a Swiss team in the Europa league, so why the hell are we bothered about qualifying for the CL. Levy has to dig deep if he wants us to push forward. I honestly believe he needs to keep Bale and spend no less than £50m if we want to be serious contenders, but it's not going to happen !!

On the positive side, we could sell Adebayor and get enough money to buy a pork pie

True, but Man Utd are doing well and still lost to City.

Only in your mind. We did well in Europe and don’t forget this is AJB’s first season. What other Spurs manager has done so well in his first season as AVB?

A Swiss team that beat some top British and European teams, but couldn’t beat us with 10 men, but only by a lottery penalty shootout.

I genuinely believe that our differences are based on ambition. I believe that we should be winning trophies and  vying for a top 4 spot. We have won one league cup in the last 14 years, and will not finish in the top four this season. You may think that based on this information we have had a good season, and that's your right. However in my opinion, we have been playing boring football, and had a God awful season.

Penalty shootouts shouldn't be a lottery if the correct preparations are made, they only become a lottery when the coaching staff do not get the players who will be taking them to prepare themselves, and by that I mean practicing taking penalties, and before anybody says "how are they supposed to know there will be a penalty shootout", because it says quite clearly in the competition rules, and I quote,"In the event of a draw in the knockout stages, after the second leg, away goals will count double, if the result remains a draw, 30 mins extra time shall be played, on conclusion of extra time if there is still no result, then penalties shall be taken, 5 per side until 1 team misses." The coaching staff I am sure would know who, if required, would be taking them.

 :nods: :nods: :nods:
Well, whilst it was disappointing to get knocked out of the Europa I can honestly say that I am pleased, perhaps now we can concentrate 100% on the Seasons most important task, and that my friends is finishing in the Top 4 in the PL, without any further distractions.

 :nods: :nods: :nods:

One minor observation on the game on Thurs, I don't think we have been awarded One penalty this season, probably just as well on Thurs penalty shootout showing, because we would probably have missed it anyway.

No we haven't had a penalty so far this season. The reason we hadn't practiced penalties is because the moron we so sweetly refer to as our head coach, probably hadn't thought about it.

Personally I am gutted that we have knocked out of the Europa cup. It was our last chance to win silver wear this season, and even if we get top four, the club doesn't get a trophy for it, and it certainly doesn't get registered in the clubs history. Personally, I don't think we have any chance at all of finishing in the top four, but even if we do, what does it mean. We aren't going to win it, and the money generated will only go in the pockets of the fat cat directors, because as sure as snow is snow, levy won't spend it on playing staff.
