Tottenham Hotspur announce financial loss of £4.3m
Tottenham have announced a loss of £4.3m for the 2011-12 financial year, primarily due to the absence of Champions League football.

Club revenue was down 12% to £144m from £163m while "profit from operations" dropped to £23m from £38m.

Chairman Daniel Levy said: "We are ever ambitious for the club, driving all areas of the business."

Spurs did not qualify for the Champions League again this season but currently sit fourth in the Premier League.

The figures also revealed   that commercial revenues continued to increase but merchandising fell by four per cent as the club made a loss of £1.6m before interest and tax - down from a £1.4m profit the previous year.

Spurs are on course to comply with Uefa's financial fair play rules and said they supports its further integration into the Premier League.

The club said they have completed the first step towards building a new stadium adjacent to White Hart Lane, which will increase revenue due to a greater capacity.

This season they have also moved to a new training centre in Enfield, which they hope will help them by nurturing home-grown talent.

"Our focus continues to be the delivery of an increased capacity stadium," added Levy.

"There is much work to be done refining the detailed design and resolving the final development issues.

"We intend to deliver this to the same high standards of the new training centre and to reward our incredibly loyal supporters with a world class stadium and one that will have made a crucial contribution to the regeneration of a priority borough in London."

    It amazes me, that Levy has the audacity to put the loss in part, down to "The Clubs failure to qualify for the CL", how about the reason we made a loss this year was because "I Daniel Levy, failed in my duty as Chairman in recruiting the Playing Staff required in the Jan 2011 Transfer window, that would have ensured Champions League Football in 2011-2012, and we will almost certainly show a loss next year as well, because I still haven't learn't from my mistakes." Mr Levy you are the reason we haven't qualified for Champions League, no-one else YOU, why because YOU don't give your coaches the backing they need, by buying the Players required to ensure we qualify for CL. YOU didn't give HARRY backing, and guess what, you are not giving AVB any backing either. You really are a piece of work.

The P&L's sheets tell the story, with that type of statement banish the thoughts of a quality striker coming in.
 
Even if Spurs make CL next season they will clearly have to sell before thay buy.

We don't have many players to sell, to be honest. And the ones we'd want to move on would probably bring in about £250k.

Before this was announced I wrote in another thread that maybe the lack of transfers were maybe due to finances. The release of this vindicated what I said before, Liverpool, Aresenal , Everton , Aston villa , Newcastle etc have not spent much money either in recent years. Most of the mentioned clubs probably generate more revenue than we do. I think this is just way it is now, more effort needs to be spent nurturing youth players.

Also as I mentioned before since Jol era our wage would have rocketed upwards to what it was then. The top earners are on much more than then and also our squad is a lot bigger with more senior/ internationals ,hence , the number of high earners has also increased. I seem to remember reading somewhere then that Robbie Keane( pre liverpool) was our highest earner on about 40k! Players like fat boy Huddleston probably wouldn't get out of bed for less than that these days.

As much as we like to see the Club spend the cash, maybe this is a reality check for everyone and not just us.

If you think we have it bad, just think of a team such as Everton, they never have a penny to spend let alone have the capacity to pay high wages as we do.

For somebody who doesn’t live in England you seem to know a lot about what is going on in Spurs boardroom. Or is it just basing your opinions on your hatred of him?

Actually Spurs got into the same position as they had previously under Harry and finished 4th. The reason they didn’t qualify had nothing to do with Mr Levy but Chelsea, who finished lower down, qualified in Spurs place because they won the European title. Beyond that it was Harry’s fault they never got any higher; he took his eye of the ball and concentrated on being touted as the next England manager. In that time they lost the bulk of their matches. This wasn’t Mr Levy’s fault but Harry’s. You should get your head out of Harry’s backside and see the light.

To be honest you are so biased against Mr Levy so much that you can’t make an intelligent comment on him (and AVB).

And how do you know he doesn’t give his coaches the backing they need? You haven’t got a clue.

        Stop repeating yourself, your incessant defence of Levy is becoming boring as are your personal attacks on myself, and no I don't have and never have had my head up Harry's backside, had you have read my posts from beginning to end you would have realised that in fact I am defending AVB not having a go at him. Back to our finances. Part of the problem is that we have accumulated several overpriced, overpaid squad players who as has already been mentioned, would probably fetch about £ 250 K.

For example Gomes Bentley Jenas Huddlestone. Get them off the books, speed up the arrival of Holtby, and ffs get a striker.

As Sandro is injured I cannot see Huddlestone leaving in January. Also, Gomes is our third-choice keeper now that Cudicini has gone, so I doubt the club would take a risk in selling him right now. Young keeper Archer is loaned out. Jenas is still at Forest, I think, and Bentley in Russia.

I really hope that Levy can identify that we need strengthening in key areas, I would hope AVB had also made this clear.

It is also clear AVB to date has what it takes management wise to get us CL footi but our squad is so thin regarding quality in key areas a couple of injuries and we could have big problems.

I am certain the Dempsey will be stepping into the second striker role, against Manu until his goal he was terrible.  But in recognition to him he never stopped and kept trying.

We need an out and out goal poacher as again Defoe has forgotten where the goal is and TBH there is no-one to challenge for his starting place.
