Ron Reynolds: the life of a 1950s footballer by Dave Bowler and David Reynolds.

Ronald Sidney Maurice Reynolds, who was born on the 2 June 1928 and died on the 2 June 1999 was a goalkeeper whose career spanned nearly 20 years. In that 20 years he played 290 League games for three professional clubs; Aldershot 1945-1950, Spurs 1950-1960 & Southampton 1960-1963. Finally have to give up because of injury.

When David, his son, was clearing out the house after his father died he found a treasure-trove of programmes, notes, medals etc highlighting his fathers career. Put them together with journalist Dave Bowler they produced this book in tribute of his father.

While at Spurs Ron Reynolds only managed to be a reserve goalkeeper, never managing to replace Ted Ditchburn and then later Brown (who was part of Spurs double winning side).

In the book footballers conditions are compared from Ron’s time in football to now and the totally different conditions they had to work under, and of course the minimum wage. An excellent book.
I’ve lived a life that’s full. I’ve travelled each and every highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.
