Just finished reading “The Real Mackay; the Dave Mackay story” by Dave Mackay with Martin Knight. This is the story of Spurs legend Dave Mackay who became a great legend for the club.

Mackay started football at Scottish Hearts then he was transferred to Tottenham Hotspur. After 9 years of success he was transferred to Derby County, followed by finally Swindon Town. Managing various clubs his pinnacle was managing Derby County to the League Championship. He also managed in the Middle East for many years before retiring.

This is an excellent autobiography of a great Spurs servant to the club.
I’ve lived a life that’s full. I’ve travelled each and every highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

Probably one of the best football photos ever.

Not probably the best, definitely !! As I recall, Mackay had just returned from his broken leg, and Bremner stamped on it.

Did you know that Dave Mackay hated that photo. It made him look like something he wasn't. He was never sent off in his career.

In his autobiography he didn't put that photo in.

When I was last at Spurs (which was the last game) there is a Spurs photo seller there. I bought that photo of him; plus others.

Players were rarely sent off back then, I suppose. The card system became in the early seventies if I'm not mistaken?

You could tackle a lot harder in the old days. Remember Chopper Harris?

If I remember correctly the cards were first used in the 1970s world cup finals. The first player to bet sent off was in 1975 or 6 I think. I also think he played for Blackburn.

I also remember that sometime in the 80s the cards were suspended for a while in the football league.

Yes, I would love to see him at White Hart Lane as a guess and signing autographs.
