If you didn't support Spurs, who else would it be

Like most of you would agree, you don't tend to chose your club, your club chooses you. I was 12 when my mate took me to WHL to see us play Huddersfield in 1971. From that day onwards Spurs were in my blood. From that point my football following life has been nothing but frustration, with the odd bit of pleasure chucked in. Spurs are an incredibly difficult team to support, mainly because of our incredible knack to under perform when it really matters, and in more recent years, the chairman's insistence to not to spend money when we are on the cusp of something great. I think life may have been easier if we were a small club with small expectations, but we are not.

Anyway, I think if I could chose a club to support it would be Fulham, and this is why. The expectations wouldn't be great and just staying in the prem would be a bonus. A top half finish and a good cup run would be enough to keep me happy. I absolutely love the stadium, and the surrounding area is terrific. It's a club no one really hates, and the season ticket prices are about half of what we pay at Spurs. All this and you still get to see the the countries best players on a weekly basis, and that's why I don't think I could support a team out of the top flight.

Unfortunately whilst it is always possible to change your car, move house or even get remarried, you can't change your team (unless you are a Chelsea supporter I of course).

What about you ????????????????????

When I was growing up Liverpool were the side to support. The Chelsea/Man utd / now man city of their day for fickle kids. So if it hadn't been for my Dad, I wonder if I would have followed the masses. But then I think that is ridiculous, I am not a sheep. So I guess I would support my local side Southend, which is really the only thing to do when you have not been influenced by your family or the attending of your first live game, which does not take in geographical circumstances. Not sure I would like it that much though, as they have been up and down the lower leagues for years. They are my second team if you like and keep an eye an them, occasionally I go and watch them and would want them to beat any other team. (except Tottenham of course).

However, if we are talking about looking at a team that we would be happy to support, due to respecting their way of running and getting to watch good football I think there are two candidates. at this moment in time I would say Swansea. They have a good ethos for playing good football, with the chairman selecting managers that will play to that style. The other would be Everton, do well on a low budget so have an excellent team ethic and would expect one day for it all to come together at the right time or to suddenly get some investment and they could put they potential into action.
Maybe next year...

I started supporting Spurs from the age of 6 when I watched my first ever match on tv which was the FA cup final replay when we beat Man City, from that point to this day and until i take my last breath THFC will be my team, luckily my wife is also a life long supporter too!

If I wasn't THFC I am not too sure which team I would support, it certainly wouldn't be Liverpool as when i was at primary school every bloody lad supported Liverpool as they were winning everything.

I dont really have any true links to any other team and if I was to select another team to support ever it would be Bristol City simply as they are local no other reason and I used to run the FRG team there on match days and they can get lively!  Plus Baso was a awesome keeper a few years ago.
THFC "COYS" and that is all I have to say about that!

I started following Spurs in 1996 and mainly because of Teddy Sheringham and Darren Anderton who played some of their best football at EURO96 (I supported England). Back in 1996 I didn't have a computer or internet access at home, but about once a month I went to my father's office and did some research on things I found interesting incl. Spurs and its history. 1998 brought Premier League football to an Estonian TV channel and I started following the league more closely (sadly Sheringham had moved to Man United by then). Anyway, that's how it went.

I used to play football myself, but before that I never really supported any team (besides England in international tournaments), although I remember AJAX of the early and mid nineties when they won the Champions League etc.

Other clubs I've followed have all come much later. In 2005 I lived in Doncaster area and went to many Rovers matches and I guess I am somewhat a supporter. For some reason Celtic is one of the clubs I've also found to be simpatico.

The only other team`s shirts i have ever worn are real madrid or barcelona so i suppose it would be one of the them , even though i`d never get to see them . I supported spurs from the minute my dad taught me to say the word spurs and i first went to a game in 1979(0-0 draw with southampton) .We went on holiday to spain in 1985 and because Real had been the first ever team to beat us at home in europe my dad bought me their shirt so i started following them on the side . Then barcelona signed mark hughes and gary lineker and had el tel as manager so i started looking for their results and the next time we went to spain i bought their shirt .Saying all of this i could chang my allegiance about as easy as i could cut my own legs off .I`m spurs and always will be .
If your not spurs you`re dead to me

Pathetic question.

It's like asking: if you had a choice of another mother, which other woman would replace her!

Bit Harsh there Joolz...
Good question if a club was to go bust, does happen theses days.
Anyways... Everyone should support there local team/where there from.

So for me it would be Southend, I usually watch them play a couple of times a season.
It's nice not have to q up for a beer to long in the ground.... ;)

I have no idea what a DDOS attack is but it sounds a bit like a girl with large breasts attacking us? Is there any video of the attack as i would like to watch that one day?

Not harsh at all. In your case I assume that you are possiibly Southend born or at least you have spent a good part of your life there. Do you feel the same for Southend United as you feel for Spurs?

I was born in Potters Bar and I had a choice as a kid between Ars*nal & Spurs. Quite a few of my mates supported Ars*nal at the time, mostly because of their families and I choice Spurs for the same reasons. I have no desire to follow any other team and I certainly wouldn't  become a Gooner if Spurs went out of business.  :hide:

I moved away from London a long time ago, so the question has never arisen.

Yes I'm proud of my local team - Southend.
Done well to stay in the league, few problems off the field past few seasons.
When they played Tottenham few seasons, the league cup game I was in the Southend end and FA cup I was in the Tottenham end.
I really hope they can beat brentford and play Chelsea at roots hall again, oh and there 2 legs away from Wembley too.

Plus actually I'm a all-round football fan, I actually love league 1 & 2 football.

I follow Celtic as a "second team" and Bristol City as its my local team.

But agree with joolz  ..there has only ever really been one team
for me and  will only ever be one  no matter what.

I don't look back and think if only I supported ..... like my school mates

Werder Bremen most likely.

As far as England goes, I'd probably have gone with Wigan (Jason DeVos played there; generally classy fans too) around the time I became disillusioned with Manchester United and the diving antics of one Cristiano Ronaldo. :P (Among others on the team.)

But I'm actually glad I stuck with Spurs even after Stalteri left. I may be a patriotic Canadian but I also love football on the whole, and Spurs, while not necessarily perfect, have been entertaining. :)

Lower division side Walsall FC also has some historical connection for me as that's where my great-grandmother was born.

I AM CANAYIDIAN!

That is a hard question; I've always supported Spurs; right from the 60s. If I was forced it probably would be a London club.

Saying that I do like to see Reading do well as I live near them.
I’ve lived a life that’s full. I’ve travelled each and every highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.
