What is your favourite Spurs book?
« on: December 04, 2012, 07:49:25 PM »
What is your favourite book on Spurs or about Spurs or their players?
I shall start with;-
I’ve read all of them so it is hard to pick. But I am going to start with an unusual one. I’ve picked Irving Scholar’s “Behind Closed Doors”. The reason I’ve picked this one is because it is a fascinating view of behind the scenes and the battle to take over Spurs. Also; this book follows on from another interesting read, and gives you some background into Scholar’s take over. “The History of Tottenham Hotspur football club 1882-1946 by G.Wagstaffe Simmons (one of my proud possessions).
What is your favourite?
I’ve lived a life that’s full. I’ve travelled each and every highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

Now that is funny you mentioned that. I didn't know that book existed until I had finished reading Julie Welch's A Biography of Tottenham Hotspur FC. She mentioned it in the end so I've ordered it from Amazon today. :lol:

Is it true Gilzean didn't actually like football? That it was just a job, the same Assou-Ekotto has said?

Martin Chivers didn't regard football as that important. That is why Bill Nicholson kept having a go at him.

Obviously I've never seen Chivers play, but I've read that he used to switch off in matches, but managed to score goals when it really mattered.

I suppose it is better switching off and scoring and being on and never getting a goal.

Being an old git, I used to watch him play when I was kid, along with Coats, Gill and Jennings etc. Chivers was one of the best strikers I have ever watched. He was strong, skillful and had a throw like I have never seen as well. I met him in Braga once, he was arrogant and very unfriendly.
