Bale, without a doubt our biggest asset now at the club, a world beater on his day and way way above average on a bad day.

I would actually be more disgusted if he opted to play footi than be there for the birth of his baby, nothing at all let alone work should come before your immediate family! Baldbloke so you can relate to this imagine footi coming before you and your ball licking terrier!

The fact Bale was not on the pitch wasn't the main reason we lost to Chelsea, we were not able to cope with Mata and showed we dont have the depth to compete with teams like Chelsea, our first 11 were okay but our bench was poor noone to bring on and make an impact.

I dont think Bale should be sold, he applies himself well, has values and signed a new contract last season to show his commitment to us.  Bale is a must keep my only big concern is this deal we did with Madrid so far quality in Modric has gone their way whats come our way?

Well, whether any of us want to keep him is irrelevant, as I would think it is for certain our money grabbing chairman will be cashing in on him come the summer, and probably spending about 20% of what we get for him on new players. The remainder no doubt will be spent on his house extension or a new swimming pool.

I totally disagree that our starting 11 against Chelsea were OK, and think it looked a rather weak side.

I am sorry if I am old school, but I really don't see the necessity for a man being at the birth of his child. If he really felt that curios  he could have hired a video or something. At the end of the day child birth looks pretty much like a bad part of alien (the film). Unlike most of the people on here, I spend an awful lot of time and money watching Spurs. Every home game I have to spend 3 hours making a 120 mile round trip. I have to lay out for my train fairs, food, drink and season ticket. In short I spend about £2500 per annum following Spurs, whereas Bale GETS a kings ransom for actually playing for them. I don't care what you say, I believe  if Bale's commitment towards the club was half of mine, he would have played.

Please don't think this is a personal vendetter  against bale, I hate almost all professional footballers. Having met a few over the years, it never fails to surprise me how ignorant and self centred they are. The majority of them wouldn't pi55 on you if you were on fire, and none of them would ever consider having a conversation with the man in the street. I just believe that Bale has been blessed with a gift, that in turn has made him richer than most of us could ever think possible. In return he didn't bother to show the commitment I would expect.

That's it !!
All said and done, why do you follow football at all? If I understand correctly, the club you support is run by a muppet. Our manager is a waste of time and space. The style THFC play is crap. The players are all ignorant assholes. Seriously, why bother? Our life is short and there's plenty to do and achieve. Why do you keep wasting your time on football? You know, for £2500 you could buy more important things, or you could save it for your children, old lady or pooch. What ever, man.

Good shout, give up the footy for a couple of season. Save the cash and be as happy as this bloke

I have been told not to feed the troll. I resisted, thinking that although your views were usually somewhere between stupidity and nonsense and that you were entitled to have them, I wanted to believe that through discourse I could challenge your thoughts. More recently you have not responed to my comments, either because you have stopped viewing them or would rather rant about your own views instead.

However, in this matter you have me beat. I give up! I cannot compete with your stubbornness and determination to find all that is good in the world and make it into something horrid and worthless. No matter how strongly you feel about these issues it does not make you right. I usually would argue that each is entitled to their own views and you still are. But you are still 100% wrong! Not in the case of you choosing not to attend the birth of YOUR child, but 100% wrong in demanding that another person should not attend THEIR child's.

I will no longer respond to your inaccurate views about the morality of man, your are simply not qualified. Maybe if you stick to the football, I may be tempted, otherwise you are on your own!

I did not agree with the fact that Bale missed the game, but this thread about selling him is ludicrous.  End of!

Dear God, this is ridiculous. It has come to something when a guy is crucified for attending the birth of his first child. Under the circumstances even if he had played how on earth could his mind be focused on the game. And I shall post this on here for the last time as I'm sick of typing it. Daniel Levy does not own Tottenham Hotspur he is employed by Enic which is owned by Joe Louis. There is as much chance of Levy using Bales transfer price to extend his home as there is of my getting pregnant.

Having refused to play against Chelsea, and not bothering against Maribo, should the club cash in and buy a player that actually wants to play football for Spurs rather than to change nappies for £1000K a week.

I know there are those of you that believe that a man should be at the birth of his kids regardless, but I am not one of them, and neither are any of the blokes that sit around me. I was disgusted at his attitude. I accept that a man earning £7 an hour should take the opportunity to miss work for such an event, however someone earning top wages should give back what he is taking out. A top executive would be expected to turn up for  an important meeting under the same circumstances. If Bale really wanted to see the event, it could have been videoed and he could have watched it afterwards.

I make no pretense that I am old school, and believe that the place for a man during the birth is the pub. I watched the birth of my son, and personally found the whole thing disgusting, but that never made me a bad father.

Your comments please
I think you are making the whole thing bigger than it is. I personally wouldn't have chosen to play, go to pub or whatever. However, I can't really blame Bale for his decision and as the club allowed him to miss two games, there isn't much to do either. The club feel his withdrawal was justified and therefore no repercussions will follow. Bale hasn't gone AWOL or anything, has he?

Now, whether Bale should be sold or not, well, I think not. Not during the season anyway. Should he start to behave like Berbatov or Modrić, then he should be sold ASAP and new player(s) should be brought in.

I don't think he refused to play but was given time off to be with his wife while the baby was young; which is his legal right.

As for selling him? Spurs are one of the top clubs and are not, or should not, be a selling club. To win top honours we need to keep our best players and  build on what we've got.

As for the best place to be when I baby is being born is with the mother and baby. If you are at the pub it shows detachment and a lack of love towards mother and baby. The day of the Neanderthal is gone. We are on the 21st century now.

Me neither. It is one of the most important things in your life. Anybody who doesn't want to be there probably wouldn't make a good husband or parent.

Ok Baldbloke has raised some interesting points and some of them are valid, if we lived in a world that was emotionless then I would agree whole heartedly with him Bale has let us down and with him in the side we would of had more chance, and sell him yes get rid if he's not committed then we don't want him !!!

But.... if Bale had played against Chelski would the outcome of the game been any different, I would like to think so but that would be my heart ruling my head. One point that has been missed is that Bale would probably only be at best about 80/85% of his usual self due to a human emotions called worry, aphrehension and excitement. This is only natural as all of us know that have had kids would be aware around the time they were due we were as wound up and on springs as it would be possible to be, not a good way to play proffessional sport at the highest level. Also and I'm actually going to give AVB credit here (unlike me I know) but letting Bale attend the birth will strengthen the commitment between player and manager and hopefully allow AVB to get the best from Bale, if he had said NO Bale may have sulked and become difficult. It's a long season and I would rather lose Bale for 1 game and have him fully committed for the rest of the season rather than a sulky and inconsistent Bale playing every game !!!!

As for selling him I think that deal has already been done by Mr Levy when he signed the link deal with Real Madrid !!!

I don't think a deal has been done. Mr Levy is an ambitious owner and wants big things for Spurs; he isn't going to get that by selling their best players.

Levy's ambition ends at his wallet. If he had success as an interest then he may have actually spent some money rather than to make a profit year in and year out in the transfer market.
