Joolz,
As I have stated previously the fact that he was sacked by Chelsea has nothing to do with my dislike  of him, I have never liked him, there is something about the way that he comes across with the Press and TV that I don't like and I can't put my finger on it. Whether my opinion will change or not I don't know, we will have to wait and see. I don't just count myself as a fan, I am fanatical about Spurs and have been for some 60 odd years, I just do not think that he is good enough for Spurs. As simple as that. I, like everyone else is entitled to an opinion, and I am not about to change because others think that I should. Plain and simple, because I don't agree with you does not mean that I am any less of a Spurs supporter than you or anyone else, so I suggest you just accept it.

 :nods: :nods:

Yes you are perfectly entitled to have your own opinion and no one can make you change it. I am just curious about the fact that you have been a fan-atical  of spurs for 60 years and the changes you will have seen in that time. You have stated that AVB is not good enough for Spurs. But what are you holding that up against? Below is the list of managers in your time.

•   1974   Terry Neill
•   1976   Keith Burkinshaw
•   1984   Peter Shreeves
•   1986   David Pleat
•   1987   Terry Venables
•   1991   Peter Shreeves
•   1992   Doug Livermore
•    1993   Osvaldo Ardiles
•   1994   Gerry Francis
•   1997   Christian Gross
•   1998   George Graham
•   2001   Glenn Hoddle
•   2004   Jacques Santini
•   2004   Martin Jol
•   2007   Juande Ramos
•   2008   Harry Redknapp
•   2012   Andre Villas-Boas

- How many of them at the time of their appointment did you feel were not 'good' enough for Spurs?

- How many of those that were good enough at the time, would hypothetically still be good enough now? (i.e. same age, perceived experience, standing in the game etc.)

This is not a trick, I am genuinely interested.

In my time as a fan (30 years) the list of managers not good enough includes - Pleat, Livermore, Gross, Santini, Ramos. I only have memories of watching Spurs during Shreeves' time but have no opinion on him for his first period, but his second time was not great so not good enough for me. I would say that at his appointment I hoped Ardilles would be good enough but his managerial skills did not match his playing skills. Graham had the experience but would never be considered 'good' enough. At the time Francis was okay, but would not be considered with today's expectations.

Which leaves Venables, Hoddle, Jol and Redknapp as the only real managers that would cut it today. 4 managers covering 13 years out of 30, not that many or for very much time really.
Maybe next year...

Spot on, and this has a large bearing on our inconsistency over 30 years.
Burkinshaw and Venables were treated shabbily, both were pretty successful in their own right, playing attractive attacking football. 3 FA cup wins, top 3 league.

If he has been a fan for more than 60 years then he should remember the tenures of Arthur Rowe, Jimmy Anderson. Also, how was Bill Nicholson appointment received at first? He didn't have any experience as a manager.

Right behind you Baldbloke,

Anti Villas Boas

These clowns go in pairs.

Anyone else still wants AVB out?

Joolz that was from 5 months ago to be fair and things have changed a fair bit especially in the last month, I don't lke AVB theres just something about him that I don't like but...........

At the moment we are playng alot better and getting results so I am happy and I think you'll find that Baldbloke has said pretty much the same thing in recent weeks, so please leave off the insults and just be happy that the team is winning and we are being won over !!!!

 ???

Once you have that sort of mindset - you don't like AVB - nothing will ever change your mind. Any slip up he makes you will be on his back.

He still has a fair bit to do to convince me!(AVB that is) cos I also don't like him, and never have.

 :nods: :nods: :nods:

The fact that he didn't respond to the crowd chanting " give us a wave " obviously shows that he knows that he hasn't won over the majority of supporters yet, and that our crowd are notoriously hard to please.
A top 4 finish would change all that I think.

I was at that game. Have you ever thought he might not have heard us. With not being English and concentrating on the game he might not have been aware of the calls to wave.

You don't like him because you have your head in the past (past glory's); and probably don't like foreigners either. As I said in a previous post. Once you've got that mindset (closed) you will never change. Even if he wins all the silverware possible in one season.

Exactly. People only want to remember what they want; to also help fuel their own prejudices.

Yes, I think the point has been made and well defended by AVB allies, including myself.

So let's wait and see what happens when we lose or draw our next game!

I stand corrected. Sorry, in my haste I did not go back far enough in my list. So yes it would include those appointments also. Thanks  :)

I must disagree. Granted those that have been on this forum for ages then I would agree with your comments. But those that are new or have just joined will find this thread interesting. Also what you find boring doesn't mean you should speak for everybody. A forum is made up of all sorts; if a thread has been reactivated then it is obvious that it is of interest to those that have reactivated it and those that have joined in with the person who has reactivated it.

Of course I might have missed something in the rules; like old threads are for older members and those that have just joined have no business in snooping  around old threads.

May I suggest that if you believe that old forums have a sell by date then you should lock it?

As for me personally; I find old threads interesting and worth investigating and maybe replying to.
