Joolz,
As I have stated previously the fact that he was sacked by Chelsea has nothing to do with my dislike of him, I have never liked him, there is something about the way that he comes across with the Press and TV that I don't like and I can't put my finger on it. Whether my opinion will change or not I don't know, we will have to wait and see. I don't just count myself as a fan, I am fanatical about Spurs and have been for some 60 odd years, I just do not think that he is good enough for Spurs. As simple as that. I, like everyone else is entitled to an opinion, and I am not about to change because others think that I should. Plain and simple, because I don't agree with you does not mean that I am any less of a Spurs supporter than you or anyone else, so I suggest you just accept it.
Yes you are perfectly entitled to have your own opinion and no one can make you change it. I am just curious about the fact that you have been a fan-
atical of spurs for 60 years and the changes you will have seen in that time. You have stated that AVB is not good enough for Spurs. But what are you holding that up against? Below is the list of managers in your time.
1974 Terry Neill
1976 Keith Burkinshaw
1984 Peter Shreeves
1986 David Pleat
1987 Terry Venables
1991 Peter Shreeves
1992 Doug Livermore
1993 Osvaldo Ardiles
1994 Gerry Francis
1997 Christian Gross
1998 George Graham
2001 Glenn Hoddle
2004 Jacques Santini
2004 Martin Jol
2007 Juande Ramos
2008 Harry Redknapp
2012 Andre Villas-Boas
- How many of them at the time of their appointment did you feel were not 'good' enough for Spurs?
- How many of those that were good enough at the time, would hypothetically still be good enough now? (i.e. same age, perceived experience, standing in the game etc.)
This is not a trick, I am genuinely interested.
In my time as a fan (30 years) the list of managers not good enough includes - Pleat, Livermore, Gross, Santini, Ramos. I only have memories of watching Spurs during Shreeves' time but have no opinion on him for his first period, but his second time was not great so not good enough for me. I would say that at his appointment I hoped Ardilles would be good enough but his managerial skills did not match his playing skills. Graham had the experience but would never be considered 'good' enough. At the time Francis was okay, but would not be considered with today's expectations.
Which leaves Venables, Hoddle, Jol and Redknapp as the only real managers that would cut it today. 4 managers covering 13 years out of 30, not that many or for very much time really.
