Adebayor's permanent transfer?
« on: April 03, 2012, 06:09:45 AM »
What are your thoughts on Adebayor's permanent transfer? Reportedly his wage-demands are too damn high and as we all know, Levy will not give in on such occasions. I personally think that Adebayor is a relatively good footballer but nothing out of this world really and 9 goals in 19 games really prove that. Nothing special. He has had some miserable games for us and while football is a team game, I would like to say that on occasions he has been the one to blame for our dismal results.

I think the club should make him one last "take it or leave it" offer and if he does not want to sign we are better off looking at other players. Adebayor will then probably end up with Anzhi and have bananas thrown at him week in, week out.

I'm in agreement. Much as his 2 goals won us the game on Sunday, would he have had 2 free headers against Terry / Ferdinand ?
I would give him 70 K and thats it. As you say, if he's a total mercenary he'll be off to Russia anyway. I would suggest we are his last port of call in the Prem.

In principal I totally agree but if you want to win then you have to fork out and to be fair he has played a pivotal roll for us this season maybe not with his goals but his leading of the line and hold up play have been phenominal.

My only worry about him leaving is we will not replace him with a player of equal or better quality because we are reluctant to pay the money and then we will be left with Defoe, who is not of the required quality to carry an attacking threat

I think Levy would be correct in not giving in to  Adebayor's high wage demands.
He is not that "special striker" that  the team needs to pay excessively for.

Albeit he has scored a few goals for us this season and on his day is a handful
for most defences, questionable without his presence we might not be where we
are in the league.

Stump up the cash in the transfer market and lets bring in somebody new.

Now is the best opportunity to attract somebody with our good performance this season.
The club should at least be an attractive proposition for those playing abroad at the moment

Otherwise as already stated and most concerning  is if he goes who will replace him, otherwise we will be left
with Defoe and Saha.

Nice idea but we will not pay the wages and with the likes of Citeh, Chelski, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter, AC, Bayern Munich etc all trying to sign the real cream top class strikers what chance are we going to have ?

Until we have our 60,000 seater stadium and revenues to match we are slightly hand tied, I remember us stumping up the cash for Aguero when he was at Athletico (£38,000,000 Euros) but he wouldn't come because of our wage structure. Also Rossi and Benzema were bid for with large amounts but it was the wages that caused the problem, our only hope is to pick an ageing striker at the end of his career or an untested youngster sadly.

Adebayor may be our only real option at this moment don't agree about paying him huge amounts but if we can get him 'cheap' then it may be the only way out at the moment !!!!!!

Yeah, and while we're at it, then let's get Tevez as well because then on a good day we would have three overpaid sulks refusing to go on pitch.

This is a tricky one. If we are to progress we need to attract top players. If we want top players we have to pay top money. If we pay top money we may very well bankrupt the club. I heard the other day that QPR's wage bill is 183% of their gate receipts that's unsustainable particularly if they go down. The question is, I suppose do we want a well run club financially stable but not achieving much ? Or. Do we want to have a tilt at winning major trophies and risking going to the wall in the process?
As to Adebayor I say if we are going to spend the money we can spend it on somebody better. For me I'd get Llorente who may even work out a touch cheaper.

my opinion is that ade has been fantastic for us this season. on a footballing basis, I Don't really get why he gets the flack he does. However @ £ 170,000 + pw he is having a laugh.

As the lone striker, I think he has done really well.
be a huge loss if he goes, no one else at the club can really do the job he does. So without him, the gaffer had a tough job on his hand to bring in a replacement.
