What should we do next?
« on: November 22, 2011, 06:23:34 PM »
This season has been amazing. We started off badly, with the disruption of the Modders saga, then being outplayed and outclassed by the Manc armies. It seemed that we were destined for a struggle to even make Europe. Levy was strong and stubborn and we should be thankful to his resistance to sell and his belief in HR and the team. We have since been outstanding, playing some of the best football I have seen in my lifetime!

So the question is, what do we do next?

Should we ride this wave and see how far it can take us? The side is clearly working well and I do not think that the red or blue mancs would have such an easy ride if we played them now. The way we look we could realistically aim for 3rd or higher but we would be disappointed if we ended up 5th or below.

Or do we take a chance and make a real push to get into the title race and even if we still end up 3rd or 4th, we have a go? To do this we may need to add 1 or 2 players in January and they would need to be top drawer.

If we could only have one player, who would it be? Who could make the difference? Don't say Messi, it needs to be realistic!
Maybe next year...

Llorente would be the man for me. I doubt we would get him in January but he's the sort of player we should be looking at. We are solid in most areas now but it is upfront were we will be exposed if we get injurys or suspensions. I'd also like a younger keeper for the long term, but that can wait for now and possibly a right winger as I'm still not convinced that Lennon has the delivery although he has certainly improved of late.

To be fair we never played the Manc sides with either Parker of Adebayor and the Modric Saga hadn't been resolved at that point. I really do think that we have the best chance for years to actually challenge for the title so bringing in players is probably not a great idea as this may upset the balance and harmony of the side, although saying that a top quality centre forward would be the only player I would make an exception for maybe Podolski or Lloriente unless 'Arry finds another gem.

The biggest signing of all though would be to get 'Arry to commit as I believe this would keep and attract more players of the current standard or better !!!

Friedel seems to have added conidence to the back 4 and with Gallas on the bench against AV on Monday and
Dawson returning at some stage ? we seem stronger here.
Midfield can compete with the best but need to hold onto Modric.

However upfront is an interesting story.
Adebayor playing well but lets not forget this is only a loan deal and his wages could still become an issue.
Defoe bangs in 5 against a Charlton X1 no wonder QPR are sniffing around him.
Then Pavlyuchenko - Everton, Russia .

So we need someone here I think.
Names in the frame seem to include Amauri from Juventus or Moussa Sow.
Huntlaar would have been a good buy but that is spilt milk now.
Llorente or  Podolski would be good additions what about Fabiano?

But what are we focussing on Europa League as well as Prem in the New Year?
Plenty to think about here.

Ahead of any new signings I would like us to secure the future of Modric and also Arry! Lets get decent contrcats sorted out for both.  I recall when Arry joined us he said Spurs is his chance to manage a big club abd achieve something, we are making headway but its not a done job!

For the January window I actually dont think we need anyone expect a younger keeper ready for next season or the season after!

Long term future wise for the start of next season we will need an replacement for Ade, he wont stay out of enjoying playing for the club he will go where the biggest wage is, and we wont be paying that so we need a strong replacement who can cut it in his role.  Personally I am not sure who at this point!
THFC "COYS" and that is all I have to say about that!

Priority should be getting a new CB and maybe LB to cover for Assou-Ekotto. We might bring in another keeper should Gomes move on. Anything else depends on our league position in May and actually can wait until summer. Let's see what EURO 2012 will bring, maybe we'll find someone interesting there.

This is the best Spurs first eleven I have watched in my lifetime. To move forward though we need some more depth. I really believe we need to pull the stops out and get Gary Cahill. We have no quality back up right winger, and of course Adebayor is only with us for a year. For the short term (January window) lets sign Cahill

I agree that we do not need or want to go out a buy a number of players, as this should be done pre-season. Our defence has coped with the injuries better than I would have thought, but I still believe we need some strength there. Cahill was a possibility in the summer but I am not sure if we will match offers made by other clubs. Although our current form and the potential of champions league next year may entice him this way.  Jagielka could also be a possibility, if we could tempt him from Everton.

Cover for the right wing is something we should consider, but agree the Lennon has been playing better in that role of late. I think we all agree that we need a striker, maybe if we get champions league we will go that little bit further to fill that role properly.

I do not think we should wait until after the Euros though because that only inflates their price. If we can find the gem before, and then they go and play well at the Euros, that would be ideal.

Maybe next year...

I think we need to bring in another striker someone in the Llorente mould or perhaps someone like Cavani, a bit far fetched I know but we have to aim high. Then maybe another centre back just to cover the ones that are injury prone, Cahill will be available on the cheap in January so that might be a shout.

My vote goes to Cahill, 'Arry'll be able to get him for a snip in January and you know he'll be able to get the best out of him.

Well it looks like Harry has no plans to buy in Jan. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/Tottenham-Hotspur-manager-Harry-Redknapp-rules-out-January-buys-article835383.html

...although he may only be saying to show loyalty and belief in the players we have. There is no point him saying we need to buy players as this may affect morale. But if the right player come available, he may change his mind.

I think we should target Krull from Newcastle to be our long term replacement for Freidel.

I agree with you too about 'Arry keeping his powder dry and playing his cards close, right player for the right price then I think he will be in there like a Ferret up a drain pipe. !!!!!!!!

The one player I would love to see in a lilywhite jersey is............Adam Johnson.
I know we have a great midfield but I would sell Peinnar (why did Harry buy him???), and bring in the most consistent English winger in the Premiership. Everything about the boy is top drawer, his passing/crossing, close ball control, shooting - you name it he's got it.

Realistically though I can see Nicholas Anelka arriving in January.
