I'm confident about us signing a striker (Vulvinic from Roma) I'd love Adebayor even though he is a total c*nt.

Not with you. Firstly he is a nightmare in the dressing room, and secondly I don't really think he is that good. Also is it just me or should a club of our stature be taking players on loan ?

Real Madrid took him on loan. I don't think it's the ideal thing, but unless we can line something else up (lots of talk about Vucinic) I think it's better than going with what we had last season.

I'm not sure any club should be adverse to taking a player on loan because of stature. Don't think stature has anything to do with it. Loans are often a better option, no transfer fee and occasionally at a cut wage price to. Especially for a player like Adebayor who could be an asset or who could be complete trouble, a loan is therefore a good option and relatively risk free. He would definitely give us a few goals I reckon, we would allow him to play without too much pressure, where he plays better. Plus he's hardly a big advocate for the Gooners as many so I'm all for it.

In regards to our stature though we are not a club who can compete with the top wage payers so if we can get a player worth a high wage (not saying Adebayor is!!) via loan I don't see why not.

Just my 2 penneth.

I think Adebayor on loan would be a great deal. Should get 15-20 goals in a season wihch is more than Crouch, Defoe and Pav managed together this last year. He'd probably do more chasing back and tackling than the three of them put together too. Vucinic is less of an out and out striker but is still way ahead of our current trio, and he is as good on the ball as Modric or VdV. The 13m we have supposedly offered would be good business.

Don't know about the tracking back part. He's always seemed like more of a hands on hips waiting for the ball type to me.

His agent was on the radio. He reacons the likelihood is that he will be sold abroad and is not keen on another loan move anywhere.

I'd rather have Vucinic than Adebayor, but if Ade's on loan and we can get his wages cut... hard to turn that down.

Speaking of feeling uneasy; i've had this growing idea in my head for the past few weeks... and its making me uneasy but i'm starting to feel like it's really for the best.

*deep breath*

let's sell Modric.

before anyone freaks out, here's my thinking; Modric is clearly unhappy here, and if we went to chelski and said they could have him for 40m *or* 30m and striker of their choice (prob. Drogba or Sturridge) i think they'd jump at the chance; we then have more first team time for Niko, who i really believe is 80% as good as Modric (doesn't hold the ball as well, but is a better scorer) and the funds to go out and buy some of the other pieces we need.

I'm saying this because of a great piece of sports advice i heard the other day; Great teams know they're never just 1 player away. Look at Man U; they never just buy 1 player and call it quits. They're constantly bringing boys up and buying a few role players to go around their stars. We need a striker, some back line help (right full and center-half) and a few new young toys to build. I'd like to think Kyle Walker coming back will help the back line a lot, but that doesn't solve striker or right full; at the same time, we've got 6 passable central midfielders in Niko, Mods, Sandro, Hudds, Sarge, and Jenas (yes it pains me to say that, but he doesn't have to start) we're set on the wings with Bale, Lennon, and Pienaar (and niko if we need) so why not sell modric and use the cash to go get Vucinic or Llorente or some other great striker?

I think there are a lot of people that would agree to some point. I am still in two minds. I feel I must address your point about taking Dogba or Sturage. Drogba earns twice what we pay, so that one is out of the question. I believe Sturage is a major part of Chelsea's plans, and they would rather pay over the top for Mods rather than let him go.

Our biggest problem is getting the quality of player we need. Even if we splashed out £30m on a top striker, could we afford his wages. The fact is that we pay wages that suite £15m strikers, and in todays market £15m strikers aren't that good !!

The latest gossip is Chelsea have offered £27 million plus Sturridge and possibly Malouda. This sounds a better deal than anything involving Drogba. I'd take this I think. Although it could be nonsense and most likely is it is getting into territory that will make it hard to resist.

Taimedowne, if that report is true I would take 27mill + sturridge!  We need a striker and our mid if pretty full of talent Niko would do a cracking jobin place of Modders and our long term future mid pairing for most matches is Thudd and Sandro.
THFC "COYS" and that is all I have to say about that!

I think that we are going to end up cutting our nose off to spite our face, this if true is a good deal. The trouble is do we now take a deal and look like we are a selling club that have been ultimately bullied into selling one of our best players, but would have solved one problem and possibly created another with other players wanting to leave.

or

Do we stand fast and tell them NO not at any price and hope we can attract the 2 or 3 big name strikers that we desperately need also hoping that Modric and the rest can deliver next season.

A quandry indeed one that Mr Levy and Mr Redknapp really need to think hard about ...............Personally I want the lot keep Modric and sign Sturridge by but I'm pretty sure that is a none starter !!!!!

What actually makes me feel uneasy is that while browsing through latest football news on Sky Sports, I mainly read about whining players who know nothing about loyalty - Modrić, Taarabt for not being allowed to move to PSG, Agüero not showing up for Atletico's pre-season...

Damn it, the only player to openly come out and say he is not interested in moving to ManU is Joey Barton and he is a f**king mental case but at least a loyal one.

Totally agree with you there. Although there's a slightly paranoid part of me that thinks that is very similar to what Andy Carroll was saying right before moving to Liverpool. Nolan to West Ham was absolutely shocking. What a great signing he was for Newcastle. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Barton is sold even if he wants to stay.

I said in the shout box around a month ago that if we sell Modric, I believe Chelsea will pay 35M plus Sturridge & Essien. That's a no brainer deal for us - even if Essien misses most of this season. If they go that high, I'm fine with Modric leaving.
He's strained his left adductor muscle it says. Whats that then ? Do we all have those or just footballers ? I wonder how mine are ? *courtesy of taimedowne*
