Greetings, my name is Mr. Trevor Taylor, I am a free-lance consultant in the United States of America. I have been following your corporate scheme in terms of Tottenham’s new ground for quite some time now, and from what I have seen you have struggled to succeed in getting what you want. Let me not be overly critical with this statement but perhaps shed some light on a situation that has many supporters, investors and other parties vested with interest. In my following report I propose a scheme that would prove to be valuable on both fiscal and traditional terms. It would also be a proposition I can both go unaccredited and uncompensated, for I am more interested in the well-being of your organization than anything else. I vow to draw more attendance that has been seen in recent years both by traditional and neo-architectural means, create an atmosphere unrivaled by any Sporting Club in the world and provide your club with a fiscal foothold to establish you as one of the Barclays’ premier league’s elite top four clubs.
Stage One: The Plans So far
The idea proposed from my perspective, is not so much revolutionary as it is a mixture of the flavors of both past and present. I watched the vendetta of the Olympic stadium deal, with much dismay as it would have not only sabotaged the support and history of the club but it would have also been a difficult agenda to juggle, both athletics and a top grade football Club. I had visited White Hart Lane the past summer and talked with the Public relations advisor on the future plans for the lane, and he had advised that your administrative body was looking to hold attendance to contend with the top clubs of the 2000’s Era, and unfortunately were sufficiently finding setbacks for your project and difficulties from Haringey counsel. The gentlemen also added that you were looking to complete the stadium with a “Kop” like stand to create an atmosphere much like the one in Liverpool in which supporters could “show there colours”. I took a shining to this and thought it a brilliant idea to provide the city of London with both a fan experience and atmosphere that they have never been subjected to while on London soil. The after part of my dialogue was filled with conversation concerning the non-stadia providing’s you proposed i.e. Hotel, musical venues, ice Skating Rink. I would take an educated guess that what is holding you back right now is the four hundred and fifty million pound developmental cost; that is bitter pill to swallow for a team trying to break into the top class of European football. But in all inevitability there had to be a way to follow both plans for re-innovation and a bright future that would not be such a devastating blow, and that is the syncretic point I am willing to share. The plans for re-innovation should topple that of re-location. Tottenham is both a historically and culturally celebrated club within our city confines. Innovation, with properly executed objectives, will generate more profit than a move to a previously supported area of the city/country. First, what is the number one rule of making money in football? Appeal the supporters. Without them your organization and every other organization likewise is condemned to a relevance of nothingness. Tottenham Supporters have an unrivaled range from the bourgeois families of London, to the traditional working class families, to even a significant proportion of the immigrant community. Rather than destroy another Clubs support I think it is time for this organization to do some troop building of its own and both manifest a plan that works as well, if not better corporately as it does for the supporters.
Stage Two: Lilywhite Advancement
This is a modern era, the possibilities are endless, and the idea of a London KOP interests me beyond anything else proposed. I think that the idea should be elaborated on, so that your organization can reach its full potential. I propose the “new look” should follow as is, three fourths of the stadium should be an” all seater stadium”, the last quarter (the Kop) should be a neo-architectural standing area unlike anything previously seen on London playing fields. If you create a safely designed and incredibly altered Terrace style atmosphere the grounds will not only be glorified, but sought after, by supporters looking for a different perspective of an age old game. This experience will be unmatched by that of any Premier team in the UK and also will be fiscally superior to a ground of all seaters. Unfortunately I do not know the figures for what an estimated game makes at white hart lane but once Innovations begin I was told that a 58,000 seater stadium was the orders of the day. That is almost that of Ars*nal and would be ticket wise, a great advancement for both club and management. Now put into perspective almost doubling if not tripling a lower tiers attendance by creating a neo-terrace safe for both family supporters and your everyday fan. If the stadiums KOP stand was the one to be terraced it would generate even higher a price seeing that KOPs generally can be more of a slope that specific individual tiers. Already you are looking at the highest possible attendance in the premier league but also theoretically the best supported. Slash ticket prices for the kop allowing in lower income children form the borough and surrounding areas to come in and support the neighborhood team, you then have a bonus on top of Haringey Counsel providing the local youth a Saturday away from trouble and off the street. You’re doing the borough a service and, in a closer reality you are making the biggest ticket profit in the premier league; a chairmen or business partner would not want that. The club generates more profit you can splice around some of the fruits of the winnings through building a hotel near ground. West Ham has succeeded in doing that and with Tottenham, a club that generates a coming and going away support from Europe; again you create a local economy for Haringey i.e. Employment, profit, tourism, but you also make another lump sum. Advisement on steering clear from ice rink, venues, restaurants, etc. would be advised seeing that it is more cost and creates a rougher passage for an already expensive package. The venue front can be easily confronted by establishing a luxurious new stadium with mass attendance it would not be hard to pull off an in stadium concert with a Wembley like atmosphere. Both stadium innovations and a possible Hotel (when the time is right) beautifully coincide with each other and once profit is made from the stadium, all your looking at is a possible “Win Win”. With The Kop being prominently standing room and the rest of the stadium being amped up profit per game would sky-rocket and Tottenham would again be at an all time high. The community involvement within the area would increase because of an easy way to watch football, and most importantly, Assets including the loudest most well supported pitch in football would be polished to a unrivaled feet.
Stage Three: Precautions
Do not think for a minute that the past had been weighed out by the weight of the pound. There are several bases in which the ideas expressed would not create a meg-temple atmosphere but a Dangerous death trap for all those who attend and it is very important that the proper precautions be taken to make sure white hart lane is still one of the safest pitches in England. First off I cannot stress the importance of finding the perfect architect that can make a Fault Proof Terrace. It should be indestructible and in no way shape or form have any overtones that can be related back to the Heysel disaster. If in any way the Taylor Report (see Heysel disaster) can be used against the plans in a legitimate way a more practical evaluations and plan should be drawn out. Once the proper according’s sought out then, and only then, are you able to complete the terrace envisioned. It is not impossible but it is time to move forwards and once again use our history and potential to its fullest. Supporter wise the pitch on white hart lane is a relatively safe one and it is important to keep it that way. The Kop as previously mentioned will be available to supporters of non- membership origin. Three fourths of the stadium will be as it is today being composed of majority One Hotspur members, the kop will be designated to the supporters abandoned in the wake of expensive football but not to those who come to your confines to cause trouble. I would instill a revolutionary turnstile that would be able to lock once reached full capacity as to disregard any outsider from entering the terrace that is not supposed to be there. The supporters do not have any interest in causing trouble by and for them but once inside should be able to be safe from anything trying to cause trouble. Since the Kop would theoretically have lower ticket prices it would be filled by home fans very quickly. There would be little room for trouble and the modern close circuit television and stewardship services would be strictly enforced. Wherever the tickets are distributed the buyers’ addresses should be held on record along with proper I.D. Any away fan caught deliberately in that end should be dealt with and prosecuted by the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. If you leave no room for foolery there will be none. A fully terraced KOP will be for any supporter of that club but should be air tight to make sure that our ground is safe and both serving the Club and its Supporters to its fullest. Successful terraces like the one of the Dallas Cowboys, American Football Team, have proven to work in favor of the organization.
Stage 4: Tradition Not Trend.
For over a century and a quarter Tottenham has been a heralded side in English football, and the only price you pay me is that if you use so much as an idea from this report you use this section as well. I understand that with a new age come New Era, and that the ways of the old will always be transcended by the ways of the new, but to better preserve our history and bring the Cockeral on your jackets a true sense of pride and destiny, I ask that a few things be done to keep Glory alive in within our club. I understand that a Club museum is to be built within the innovated White Hart Lane; I wish to see it built and not tossed out because of Cost. The necessity of keeping what is important attracts new supporters as it does old and hopefully we will be able to see the club of today side beside the like of the heroes of the past. Secondly, I understand the naming rights of the Lane should be sold In order to make a profit of something so simple, I solemnly stand by that under the condition that you keep the end that used to be part of the Old lane and name it the White Hart Lane End, Something so simple yet so meaningful. This is a club of many different forms of support and instead of just targeting one specific group we should remember that football only exists because of supporters and on some level the organization should give back to the people that made them.
In closing it would also be a solid concept to have statues of heroes past, Manchester United has the holy trinity, West Ham the likes of Geoff Hurst and Bobby Moore, there are a slew of characters from our glorious past that would be able to stand proud aside the new lane showing the supporters of our legendary quality. It is time for Tottenham to grab the reigns once more and meet the Premier standard For the Premier league of the world.
In Conclusion I hope that you have reviewed my plans and sought it upon yourselves to look into making Tottenham a super club once more and I will cherish the day that Glory returns to the lane. With the Profit being made from the KOP to the fan base that will easily sweep through the nation with the accordance’s I have previously stated THFC and all of its administrators will not only gain a foothold in the international football world but will also be glamorized for years to come by business men and supporters alike. It has been said that “Something True Never Dies” let us hope that the prestige of the club, supporters, and administrators sheds some light on something that would make it even greater.
