Lennon overrated?
« on: April 09, 2007, 10:14:02 PM »
Sure he had a good season last season, but this season he hasn't been his usual self. He seems almost scared to get the ball, and when he does the final ball hasnt been there all season. He also can't shoot for toffee, all he has is speed and he often gets barged off the ball and gives it away.

But because he has some skills and is quick, people automtically think he is good.

He has been VERY innefectual for the last few months.

He's not been overally brilliant, but he's not been rubbish. He's put in some good performances this season.
Plus it's only his second season at the top flight, and he's got more games under his belt this time round, thus he's proberbly cream crackerd.

Plus, more people are aware of him now, so they'll be onto him quicker.

No way is he overrated. There isn't many players in the world that can beat people with pace like he can.

He obviously hasnt had the same impact as last season but I think thats down to him trying new things. Jol wants him to improve and sometimes when you want to improve you need to take a step backwards before taking two steps forward.

Look at Tiger Woods for example, he dominated the game through 2000-2002. Then he changed coaches and made changes to his swing. Then through 2003-2004 he wasnt at his best and was surpassed by Vijay Singh. Then in 2005-present he dominates again and is now better than he was in 2002. People were baffled why he changed his swing at the time, he was winning everything in sight. But Tiger said himself he wanted to get BETTER, and he knew he would have to take that step backwards before taking 2 forwards.

So to summaries, yes Lennon hasn't been at his best but he's still learning the game and making those necessary improvements. But I tell you when they all come into play and those improvements are fine tuned, he'll be one of the best wingers in the world.

No way i don't think he is overrated

To be honest i don't think Lennon has been the same since that injury he had, we have seen glimpses of it but not as good as last season and the start of this season. That was his first big injury and you could tell it effected him mentally, and at the moment i think the expectation of him to change a game is getting to him, i don't think he can deal with the pressure. i know i wouldn't be able to and im the same age as him, But he will soon and i think next season with the break i think we will see a different Lennon.

He is still young, but he needs to keep improving to become world class.

No need to panic but I agree that he has not played as well this year as last.

At times when you watch him he seems to lose interest in the game and fades out, the game in Sevilla was an example.

Maybe he just needs a rest.

pfft. Lennon Overrated?
That is ridiculous. He is quick, has skill, and serious potential.

yes, he is inexperienced BUT once he gets a bit older, plays some more games at club and international level and really proves himself to the world.

Lets hope we can keep him away from the big clubs for at least 2 more seasons.. :P

i think he is not overated but he may be slitly under achieving towards the end of this season. to be honest i cant really say hes under achieving as he has played al most every game he hasnt been injured in. and he has only turned 20 (or something). his final ball will ipmrove in time.

Also which most of you haven't mentioned he has started a lot of games on the left which as we all know is not his natural position.I think that with the arrival of a proper left winger (hopefully)  Lennon will be played on the right next season. We will then get a better idea of his progress.

I disagree with the original post. He's scored more, created more and IMO has been more influential. He's been asked to play a LOT more games and has been put in various positions that he's never played in before. And I'll always remember him skinning Cashley. :D

You guys make some good points.

I think confidence is his key which he has lacked, but him playing on the left wasn't the best idea either.

It annoys me when he plays out there, we're losing more than we're gaining with him on the left. Keep him on the right were he is at his best.

If you compare Lennon to 2 seasons ago when he made his debut, he has come on in leaps & bounds. I don't think he's overrated at all - maybe we are all expecting too much. Every player has their good and not so good days and he's still only young. Give him a chance! I just hope we can hold on to him for a few years.

we can't expect too much from him, he is still inexperienced.

i don't think he's overrated when you compare his age with his quality
