Reality check
« on: May 08, 2011, 06:30:03 PM »
Spurs are NOT going to win the league or anything else for that matter for a long time. Doesn't matter if we beat Manure, Mancty, Chelsea and Ar5ena1 home and away we still lose to Blackpool,Wolves,Wigan etc etc.
We are a top 10 team but nothing more as our CONTINUED inability to beat lower league opposition remains our biggest weakness. Next season we will be lucky to finish 6th because I cannot see any world class players coming in over the summer because we have nothing to offer them. Not just that but we need a consistent keeper, cover for Ekotto, 2 new CB's, and at least 2 new strikers. I've tried to stay positive over the last couple of months but the truth is Tottenham Hotspur are the best of the rest in the Premier league and next season will finish 6th behind ManU,ManC,Ars*nal,Chelsea and Liverpool.

Well said mate. I said this back in March. It has all come to pass. Only a change at the top can make things different

All true which is why we need to fight for 5th and EL qualification this season.  It may be our last chance for a considerable time.

You are right scotspurs. The areas you mentioned need improving and I actually think that if we can keep the core of our squad together and add 4-6 players we would have the potential to get higher. But to get higher we have to beat the ones below us and this is something I really would like to see. First things first as they say.

imo we need real quality in the main areas before we will finish top four again. Yes we can improve on our squad but so can all teams. Our squad as a whole is just as good as the teams above us, but the difference is they have real quality in key areas.

All four teams above us (and Liverpool below) have better strikers. Obviously our defence isn't as good as Chelsea's or United's but imo the players we have at the back are just as good as City's , Ars*nal's and Liverpool's but once again the difference is the strikers.

This is all true sadly. And has been for years. What we have to remember is OUR blips are the years we do well in. Not when we finish mid- table, that's just an average season. occasionally we win a cup or have a decent run that puts us with a tilt at the top 4 but it invariably ends in tears as we flatter to decieve yet again. Finishing 5th and 4th is the exception for us historically not the norm. The teams in the top 5 will improve and we will try to keep up.But unless we find players that are hungry and have slipped through the scouting net of the top clubs we are going to fail. We cant offer CL football and we wont pay the wages to the mercenarys. So we have little chance of any big signings which is why we are always trying to pick up scraps on deadline day. Our best players will be sold most likely it is a buisness at the end of the day and it needs to be fed. And these guys are ambitious and want shiny things in the cupboard.  The Chairman will go on about the new ground and getting back in the CL but the amounts that need to be spent to achieve this increase every year and we just cant compete. This is the reality I'm afraid. The other 14 clubs in the league seem to accept this and function accordingly. We as Spurs fans seem to think we have a divine right to dine at the top table, when there is no evidence whatsoever to back this inflated opinion up. It is painful to say this but we are probably the best of the rest. It doesn't  feel good but thats the truth. How we change it is beyond me but something needs to be done. However the gamble we would have to take is huge and may well bankrupt the club if it backfires.

Couldn't have put it better myself. One Leeds United springs to mind...

taimedowne - What you have written sickens me but I couldn't agree more.  Just browsing the transfer threads from January and last summer, it is embarrassing to recall the names we thought we were linked with or tried to get and were rebuffed.

Don't think Suarez ever considered us for a second.  If we ever get Aguero, I'll eat my own face.

Sad truth is that we do not have the pull of Chelsea, Man U, Arse, Liverpool and now Citeh (cos of the money and CL).

I know I keep banging on about it but for al the reasons everyone mentions above, is exactly why we shouldn't dismiss the Europa League and 5th.

Lets strive for the best we possibly can.

People really should understand that Europa League is better than no European competition at all. Should we get there, I'd actually be happy. We did relatively well some years ago when we played UEFA Cup... And bear in mind that we have actually won the bloody thing twice...

To be fair it had a bit more Kudos then. The teams finishing 2ND and 3rd went into it along with the F.A cup winners after they stopped the Cup Winners Cup. To be honest I'm not keen but if we get in it we will benefit from the experience. And it may be enough to tempt some players though I cant imagine who they might be. I would of thought Harry telling them- This year we are going to have a right go at winning the league, would be more incentive to join than offering them a cold  Thursday night out in Finland or wherever  but footballers can be strange people so who knows. Anyway should we get in it we may as well give it a go, and finishing 5th in what is a very strong league is an achievement in itself

Hey, Finland is a nice place. Can be a bit cold in winter, though.  :P But don't worry, Finnish clubs don't get that far in Europa League.

Give me a cold Thursday evening in Finland any day of the week if it means I get to see Tottenham more.

Isn't this oh so very sad......................to compete we need some rich Russian or Arab or some mega money organisation to get a bigger stadium, come what may, irrespective of cost, looking at the bigger picture of regular CL revenue. City have done it, Chavski have too, why cant we? After all, as far as heritage is concerned, there are very few English clubs that can boast football blue blood. Personally, I dont care who owns the club (and I'm a shareholder so I would vote for it) as long as I see players with the cockeral on there chest walking out at the Nou Camp/Bernabau every season! So Mr Levy, get us a new owner!

You cannot be serious! Maybe you'd like Glazers to buy us?! Man, you sicken me. Seriously.
