Unfortunately I believe also it may be time for Gomes to step aside.
There is no doubt he is a top quality shot stopper, but it's other area's that let him down and therefor is isn't a top class keeper that we require.
We are all aware of his gafs/errors etc during his Spurs career, but in order to be classed a top top keeper you need to have a good positional sense. Gomes doesnt have great positonal sense. Nasri's goal springs to mind where he shot straight down the middle of the goal. if Gomes was in the correct position a save was possible.
Secondly his thought process from crosses and corners has always been an area of concern for me. More often than not when a cross/corner is played in Gomes will decide to come aand claim the ball only to find himself gettig knowwhere near the ball and quite often find himself in no mans land while the attackers and defenders battle for the ball, this has happened countless amount of times.
And finally, his catching ability, or lak of. Now we have seen he seems to the back of spilling the ball forward, backwards, left and right when shots are fired in a him. But, also from corners again his catching inst strong enough, he elects to punch which is fine at times but catching is a key criteria for any goalkeeper. Gomes is less than average at catching ad this is evident.
Maybe it's concentration?? I just think he's not good enough anymore, as much as I like Gomes. He's too prone to these gafs. It's in double figures now. Yes yes he makes fantastic inbelievable saves that keep us in games, but when he screws up he screws up bad which kind of un-does all his good work and completey shoots his confidence down
Time for someone new, the Shalke keeper looks handy (no pun intended)
