It all went wrong in August when we failed to sign a top class striker (s) after qualifying for the Champions League.  We couldn't even sign 1 or 2 strikers in the January transfer window so what chance have we now? Why does Harry always revert to saying we had a great season and it was great to play against Inter, AC and Real?  Harry needs to seriously look at how he rotated (thats a joke) the panel and have a long talk with Sir Alex. How many times did Utd put out a 2nd rate team and still win?  Why? Because they are always playing for their place as Sir Alex demands the best from his whole panel unlike Harry who didn't give enough time on the pitch to Niko, Bassong and Piennar not to mention Lennon in recent weeks. When you play in Europe you need 5 or 6 fresh pairs of legs in the following game. How come Jenas got so much playing time ahead of Niko?  We still have no leader on the pitch, somebody who can shout and roar and get us back into games when we need it most. Why did he not start Sandron on Sandro, Lennon, Niko and Bassong on Saturday v West Brom? Just another example of what he did all season. Remember he played Keane up front on his own v Utd at Old Trafford? He threw Niko and Sandron out against Bolton away when they hardly had kicked a ball?  WHY oh Why Harry?

Hey Dublin - you are echoing the same frustrations we all have voiced here. Its amazing that us "non-professionals" can see it, but Harry can't. I do think he has got carried away with his own hype and has now been found out. Team selection has been poor and one of our greatest assets has hardly had a look in - Kranjcar. True he was injured so he couldn't play last weekend, but it seems Pienaar is preferred to him although I don't think he is good enough to clean Niko's boots. Why did Harry bring him in from Portsmouth only to dump him this year when last season he was outstanding AND when he's played a decent length of time this season he has made a difference AND SCORED GOALS! Its all very annoying, and now after City's win last night it all seems pretty academic anyhow..............nonetheless, he will still crow that it has been a fantastic season.........YES, the joyride that was the CL campaign was fun, but being potentially thrown back into the wilderness having tatsed the sweet berries of success, especially when we had a top4 place easily in our grasp before the Blackpool game is difficult to come to terms with (I put away my rose coloured glasses after that humiliation) ............so if its any help, we all feel the same, but we trudge on because we know no different!

I can`t believe some of what i`ve read .Think back to october 2008 .2 points from 10 games .Relegation a seriouse possibility .Last season we conceded 9 league goals at home all season and never dropped out of the top 5 places in the league .This season we`ve reached the QF`s of the champions league and had injuries to dawson , defoe , gomes , huddleston , king and woodgate and rarely had the same two centre backs for more than a few games in succession and we`re STILL in the chase for fourth ?????? .Some of you need to get your heads out of your arses .
If your not spurs you`re dead to me

In October 2008 we were bottom because of the serious damage Ramos did to the club. Before that we had 2 5th place finishes and narrowly missed out on 4th on the last day of the season - that was in a very short Martin Jol reign. So if we are happy with 5th now, have we really improved since Martin Jol? Just a question, I am not slagging of other opinion, just posing the question.

I cannot say I'm extremely happy but I don't see a reason for constant moaning and wouldn't send Redknapp a parcel bomb either.

Yes, we have had great matches this season and a fair share of disappointing ones as well but the ones who say that they wouldn't want us to play in Europa League are just daft - it is not Champions League but and European competition nevertheless.

By the way, I still quite vividly remember people calling for Jol's head (in this forum as well) and hailing the arrival of Ramos. Would we be ready for some of the same?

I think it was only a minority that were calling for Jol's head. I recall quite vividly the crowd chanting his name at his last game as a reminder to Levy that the fans loved him.
You make a fair point about chopping and changing managers though. My point is that if we accept that 5th (if we achieve it that is) is ok, we have not really developed any further since those days. To do so, I understand that the infrastructure needs building - e.g. a new stadium that would easily fill 60,000, to pay the higher wage demands of top players that would bring real glory to the club; so do we just have to accept that we can only try for "the best of the rest" i.e. 5th until we have a new stadium?  :-\

Loved the big man. Will never forget Leverkusen away, "Martin Jol's blue and white army" chant was going for about 15 minutes.

We had the white kit that night.

Two vids from the night: MARTIN JOL'S BLUE & WHITE ARMY - 6 minutes of the chant.

Always look on the brightside of life - One of the best moments ever.
