I am happy for the account we gave of ourselves in our first ECL, proud of the lads!

We have some key players back to match fitness and playing well, Madrid was a nice warm up for the real work ahead!

Lets go get 4th spot ..... we can do this and have ECL footi again next season!
THFC "COYS" and that is all I have to say about that!

Yes, thought we were fab against Madrid. Probably more like it would have been last week had we had 11 players on the pitch....similar start with Madrid taking control of the first 15 minutes then Lennon and Bale blitzed them. Was great to watch. Loved the commentary that Spurs deserve to be there. Last 8, who would have thought it! FAB

Why not 3rd Chelski are having a bit of a wobble and we have to play them too !!!!!!

3rd would be v nice, but looks a very tall order with Chavski 5 points ahead.

But Harry is aiming for 3rd - he says on the website "We've got to try and finish above Chelsea and City. That’s what we’re aiming at and it won’t be easy, but we’ll give it everything. We’ll give it a real go and play some great football, like we always do.

Champions league campain - Very good.
F.A & Carling cup - Very bad.
Premier League - Same old Spurs - Good against top teams BUT until we beat the bottom 5 clubs consistently then we won't go any higher than 5th in the league. We would be challenging for 2nd or 3rd if we had beaten Blackpool,Wigan etc etc.
Still theres always next year I suppose. Europa Cup will be hard to swallow but we should win the tournament as long as Liverpool don't pip us to 5th.

Chelsea's run in:

Homes: Brum, Hammers, Spurs, Newcastle = prob 12 points, sorry but I have us to lose there
Aways: West Brom, United, Everton           = prob 3 points

I predict they finish on 73 points - dont think we'll get third

Why all the gloom and doom?!

Performance in the league - Yes, I also expected more. I am annoyed that we managed to drop way too many points against opponents we really should have beaten. But as they say - there are no easy games anymore and Wolves away and Stoke away are by no means easy games. We still have a small chance to climb above City, especially now when their talisman Tevez seems to be injured.

Performance in cups - From the start it was obvious that Harry had decided to concentrate on CL. Too bad, because a cup would have guaranteed us a spot in an European competition.

Champions League - We were expected to be pathetic and take a look at us now. Our first season in CL and we have made it to the quarter finals. It has been a marvellous competition for us.

All in all it seems that people have short memories. I have been reading posts à la 'f**king Europa League' - correct me if I am wrong but a few years ago we would have been very happy with any European spot. Should we finish 5th I would still be glad to play in Europa League. We have come a long way and we all know what happens when you bite off more than you can chew.

You don't see Sir Alex not bothering with the FA cup because he wants to do well in the CL. Every team should try and win every game, end of story !!

Because United are in the champions league every season and know how to deal with the number of games. The simple fact is, United know how to win games, we don't.
"Any player coming to Spurs whether he's a big signing or just a ground staff boy must be dedicated to the game and to the club. He must be prepared to work at his game. He must never be satisfied with his last performance, and he must hate losing."

It wasnt long ago that Alex F pulled United out of the FA Cup (1999/2000 season) as he felt there were other priorities

I don't think United had much choice. They were making it seem as if the 06 WC bid was their responsibility. They practically had to go to the club WC. Surprise surprise nothing came of it! The WC bidding process is more corrupt than American politics! Makes me sick.

My point is that dropping out of one potential trophy does not give you a better chance in an other. In fact it could be said thet the winning momentum is an advantage. I believe playing two games a week makes a team better than just playing the one.

SAF still prioritises games though. The thing is Uniteds under strength team is still good enough to win them a lot of games. So their top players are rested a lot more than ours. We dont have that luxury ( few teams do) take 1 or 2 key players out of our strongest line up and we are a different proposition. Utd drop Rooney and bring in Berbatov etc, every player is top class and fits straight in. Until we have top quality cover for every position and I mean TOP quality we will always be fighting for scraps. Unfortunately that costs money which at the moment we dont have.

Somewhat random (yes - it's only American politics  :nope:)

@taimedowne - I hear what you're saying and you're not incorrect, but there are only around 8 teams in the whole world that have TOP quality at every position and we're not far off. We have pretty excellent team depth, but until the club can demonstrate that they are capable of progressing in the CL consistently it is simply impossible to have world class reserves at every position. We can't even keep all the guys we've got now.
He's strained his left adductor muscle it says. Whats that then ? Do we all have those or just footballers ? I wonder how mine are ? *courtesy of taimedowne*
