the Gattuso agent may have a point... I've seen Jordan get into strong verbals with a Liverpool player once last season and you could tell from the body language of those there that Jordan was the instigator.... the Liverpool guy just gave him a dirty look and walked away..

Jordan... or any others from the 'touchline team' should not have any verbal exchanges with opposing players, as it could be seen to be sledging or goading them.... its cynical, cowardly, unsporting and undermines the referee and his assistants...

I see your reasoning now and it's a fair and valid point. You've just reaffirmed an earlier observation I made about the English sense of fair play, though (from my admittedly ignorant American point-of-view). There's something completely bonkers about this type of journalistic response to appropriate sporting behavior, when the players openly yell "f**k off" to the officials at virtually every call -- and that's just the tip of the iceberg is most cases. It is unfathomable to me, and it just does not happen in American sport without swift and severe consequence. As I've said before, yet another reason to love the Premier League. You just couldn't make this s**t up!

in sync with you Willsy ole bean... the level of degenerate behaviour that English football culture tolerates is totally beyond the pale.... its unbelievable what the refs let the players get away with... it doesnt happen in other European leagues - the culprits would be crucified..

youre probably having a mental pic of that hooligan Kieran Richardson from the Sunderland game, when we got a glorious close-up of his foul-mouth rant at the ref.... I fear Jordan is a more sneaky version of Richardson in his goading of Gattuso, in the style of the 'WormTongue' from the Lord of the Rings trilogy..

you are correct Derry.... and thats exactly what the cynical, some would say cowardly and unsportsmanlike, Jordan tried to achieve when he in very strong likelihood goaded Gattuso with a few choice words....

why else would Gattuso single Jordan out..... not exactly someone significant to a player that has won several Italian titles, Champions League and World Cup medals.... notice the way Gattuso was courteous to Arry (the Spurs manager btw) but specifically singled out Jordan..... no doubt in your Lilywhite-tinted viewpoint that was pure coincidence..

So you have absolute evidence that Jordan stood there and goaded Gattuso.
 
This was the Gattuso that was raising his hands and pushing Crouch and others, shouting and gesturing at the referee, thumping the ground and throwing his toys out of his pram the Gattuso that was basically being a complete d**k.
 
I don't doubt that words were exchanged but that dosen't excuse Gattuso going up to a man twice his age and head butting him. Also, and this is probably an alien argument to you as I guess you would run away and hide if the going got rough, as an assistant manager I would be disappointed if Jordan wasn't shouting out and pointing out to the officals Gattuso's disgusting behaviour on the pitch. In general I would expect Jordan to be there trying to protect his players and if calling Gattuso a prick draws the attention of the referee then fine.

Ugsy.... trouble with simple minds such as yours is that you dont recognise a slippery slope when you see one..

allowing coaches and their gofers to engage in verbals with opposition players is that, at any point, it can cross acceptable lines and be a tool to
(a) goad players by insulting/threatening conversation

(b) inciting violent retribution and general breakdown of onfield conduct

(c) seen to be condoning over-agressive behaviour by adding to it verbally, and it being broadcst to millions of ppl incl. kids (who then see it as acceptable behaviour, coming as it is from their 'heroes')..

9d) undermining referees and their assistants in maintaining order; and/or putting undue pressure on refs to give further decisions their way..
