Defoe's drought caused by Modrics influence?
« on: February 01, 2011, 08:39:35 PM »
Defoe is currently mired in officially his worst ever barren run in the Prem.  He's never gone so many consecutive games without scoring.  In the past 13 months I think he has scored about 3 prem goals.

14 months ago in December 2009, he was TOP of the prem goal scoring charts.  During that climb, Modric was actually out of action due to his broken leg.  No Modirc = Defoe top of the scoring charts.

Modric came back from injury and since then, he has had 13 months of misery.  Even when Modric and Defoe played together earlier that season and Defoe got a hat trick, Modirc not only didn't give him an assist, but he wasn't even involved in the build up to any of the goals.

If Modric is supposed to make us tick, why have Crouch, Keane, Pav and Defoe had their record breaking bad league form?

Over half a season played, and Modric barley has a goal and an assist to rub together.

IMO Modric isn't actually pulling the strings for us, but moving us sideways or backwards with the easy option.  The easy pass.

With Bale out, I really think we need to put him back on the left.  The middle of the pitch is vital, and if he is going to leave gaps defensively with ball watching, losing 50/50's and not being great/strong in the air, he really should be better in the attacking third than he has been.

I have no idea what a DDOS attack is but it sounds a bit like a girl with large breasts attacking us? Is there any video of the attack as i would like to watch that one day?

I feel that Huddlestone has been a far greater 'miss' than most supporters realise

Defoe is alot like Lampard.... when either have a world-class targetman playing in front of them eg. Berbatov, Kanoute or Drogba they get loadsa chances to have a shot ... they then convert a small perecentage of those shots into goals..

I think even last year, Defoe was asked to play a different role, more about playing in the channels leaving Pav or Crouch in the pen-box....and credit where its due, hes done it well.... but he hasnt scored many (but he hasnt had many games since April due to his injury at season's start...

Modric is a red-herring.... he doesnt score many, doesnt provide as many assists as he should, and cannot cover ground at speed for 90mins very well.... but apart from that he's okay

the ironic thing is our strikers individually are not bad.... but the pairings always lack the blend and balance to be very good..

I'm beginning to warm to the Europa League already.... lets be good Spurs fans, relax and take it as it cums

might be a good opportunity to try Vaart at CM, next to Jenas (but not tonight against Blackbum)...

tonight will be:  Gomes, Hutton, Gallas, Bassong, BAE, Lennon, Jenas, Palacios/Pienaar, Vaart, Defoe, Crouchinho

Point one none of them can shoot or head the ball straight, try watching some games and see how many chances we create only for the above mentioned to miss miserably, this is why we have been trying to sign a top class striker !

Point two open your eyes and watch because you can't judge a player if you haven't watched them and you obviously haven't !!

I think poeple underestimate how long it takes for a player to find form when coming back from a long term injury. I think to point the finger at Modric is unfair. Defoe looked in top form before his injury.

I'd also like to note that Defoe has had his fair share of injurys in the last couple of seasons, maybe that's something we should be looking at.

Defoe'sactual form has been quite good and his general link-play, work-rate has been better than when he was just goal-hanging..

the reason he doesnt score much is cos of the weak balance in any pairing of strikeforce...
