Lack of ambition?
« on: February 01, 2011, 01:04:08 AM »
Very disappointed tonight that we haven't got anybody in.....we all know we are crying out for a good striker and 1 or 2 good centre halves....after finshing 4th last season it was up to the manager/chairman to go get us the players that would cement our place in the top 4th for the foreseeable future...imo they have failed badly tonight...im also disappointed that we only managed to let 4 players go, and the 4 of them only on loan, which is quite staggering when you consider they have hardly kicked a ball for us all season.

It looks as if this champions league outing will be our first and only one for a long time...the teams around us all added players today, but we only bring in one, and the jury is still out on him as he has only played two games...today was a chance for us to let our rivals for 4th place know that we are in there again, but no we cant get that decent signing in that would take us to the next level...Redknapp harps on about us possibly winning the league...he's having a laugh...we just cant compete when it comes to signing the top players around..ok, VDV is an obvious exception....the top players just dont want to sign for us....they would rather go to United...Chelsea and Ars*nal before us...even Liverpool have pulled off a major signing today bringing in the Ajax player.

I said in another thread a few weeks ago that i think Redknapp is holding us back when it comes to transfer windows...we were offered good money for Niko last week and Redknapp comes out and say he wants to keep him....why keep him if hes not going to play...Redknapp should be straight up with the players and tell them that they are not part of his plans and it would be best for them to move one...he has to start being more straight up with the players.

Today we have showed a lack of ambition and im pretty sure our top 4(we have no chance of top 4 by the way)rivals are delighted.

I guess it depends on who we actually made bids for. If we actually made a bid of over 30 mil for Aguero then I wouldn't call it lack of ambition. I don't know which players we actually made bids for. I suppose there isn't much anyone can do about it if the bids we make are rejected. I was one of the few on here who would have been happy getting Carroll for 25M, but not effing 35 like Liverpool! That's more than David Villa cost Barcelona!

I'm not sure what to believe about our bids. Seems like quite a bit of smoke and mirrors. If we really made a bid for Aguero for 38M why would they accept that when Cheslea supposedly bid almost twice that in the last transfer window? As for Forlan, I would have preferred Carroll. 17M for Forlan at his age is money spent and not an investment. Maybe we'll start seeing Redknapp actually give Pav a few chances. We need goals! eff!

I still think we have came a long way since a few season ago, with out Harry. We would be playing the likes of Watford in the championship.

I do see where you guys are coming from, as in the lack of a signing, we have had a quite window for a change.

I have no idea what a DDOS attack is but it sounds a bit like a girl with large breasts attacking us? Is there any video of the attack as i would like to watch that one day?

My gut feeling is the bids we made were genuine but Levy isnt prepared to bankrupt the club spending on huge fees and huge wages.

Personally i see no lack of ambition, i do however see a complete lack of structure and planning to what we were doing. It seemed like Harry and Levy were running around using the 'scattergun' approach to signing someone or anyone.

I also blame the f*ckin Beckham circus that was going on at the start of the window. And in case anyone hasnt noticed our form has been s**t since the great man arrived to 'be good to have around the place'.

Im sure harry and especially levy are feeling like the have been left with egg on their faces. Before this d.l had a reputation for being a shrewd negotiator and arry being a wheeler dealer. Yet they got sucked into the farce that is beckham, failed to offload the deadwood and failed embarassingly in their quest for a new striker resorting to frantic last bids for every european striker out there. Im so relieved that nufc didnt accept our final bid for carroll as that money is crazy never mind what the pool shelled out for him. They couldnt even secure a defensive mid and failed with ridiculous bids bids for parker and charlies adam. what a joke ffs???
We can look forward to some poor results from now on as the whole squaqd have gone stale under harry. Just look at the likes of modric, vdv and defoe....... all well below par. add to that the recent performances of harrys favourites... hutton, crouch and jenas, players we will be seeing alot more of lately and you can see where this is going lads. CL is a pipe dream now. I am praying for an injury to crouch and yes i know that is an awful thing to say. Just hope he runs into a chimney pot or something.

I think the biggest 'signing' this transfer-window was actually done by Spurs....

there's a strategic 'signing' we made which just might hugely help in clinching the deal for saving us 300m+ on a new stadium.... its come at very little financial cost and will only last for the duration of the OS bidding-process.... the perfect signing as its at a zero cost but fit-for-purpose entirely...

as for the circus of Liverpoo getting their pants pulled down by Fat Ashley, to the tune of 35m+.... it really doesnt get much better for footballing comedy.... 35m for a no-paced, low-skilled nodding-donkey that the defenders have taken too lightly aerially, for half a season, allowing him to nod in a few goals..... sheer comedy gold..

Arry... you really must stay clear of over-valued British players with no general athletic ability or pace..... theres a reason that Adam Charlie has been playing in the Championship for years before... a very good reason.

Pienaar... Khumalo......Beckham off-the-pitch for 2 months...... its actually not that bad at all..

As a club we have the ambition, we just dont seem to have a clue how to achieve our targets and this covers signing and shipping out required players.  Yes got finally got CL footi last season will we get it this time around it has to been seen but another loss with those winning above and it looks unlikely.

Many have said and I agree this season was our chance to secure our place in the top 4 again, we need signings and due to lack apparent lack of structure and planning our transfer targets got away.

35 mill too much for Carroll, he would have been great for us but at around 20 mill + Crouch.  How did Pisspool nick Suarez??

It was very embarassing seeing us linked and have bids reports for just about every Euro forward that knows the direction to goal on the last day or so we looked f**king desperate and clubs would hold out for a silly bid which rightly Levy would not sancation for the financial good of the club and our future in the transfer market.

We will get back to winning ways this week, lets see Pav and Defoe start and have them build up a working partnership it is our only chance up front this season.

do I think we lack  ambition ? No I dont' , yes this window was a disappointment. But the club has made great strides in the last few years.

Let not forget since the formation of the Premier league, until recently, we have been a bottom half -  Mid table team. But now we expect to be challenging 4th place, have a fantastic Squad and a team that on thier day can beat anyone. And this has been done on a sustainable budget. Yes we have spent, but nothing like the what has been spent at chelsea or Man C.

We as supporters have to be realistic, we can't go out spending fantasy money. Liverpool could only spend £58 million last night because Torres was going the otherway. Man U , Ars*nal and Everton have spent even less than us in the window, do they lack ambition?

As much as we all hate the Idea of leaving WHL for a bigger stadium, this is a must if we are to compete in the transfer market. I read somewhere Ars*nal and Man united make £100M compared to our £40M in gate recipets. Heck our current stadium capacity isn't even in the top 10 of the premier league, with both Leeds Utd and Sheffield Utd also having higher capacity Stadium.

Both Harry and Levy have done a great job, yes its going to be difficult getting 4th spot, but lets not give up before it has even happened. Time to get behind the Lads as there is still a lot to play for.

Good points, Pie. I still don't understand what was happening yesterday though. I agree with everything you've said, but we supposedly had a 38M bid for Aguero rejected.

We also must have bid over 7M for Adam. I'm not sure on the details there, but supposedly we were willing to pay more than Liverpool. We supposedly bid for Forlan as well. It just seemed a little bit desperate yesterday.
