Do you guys have any soft-spot teams in Championship, Div One or Div 2? Have a particular team you want to see get promoted or relegated? Or just want to talk about the higher levels of non-Prems English football? Post it here! :D

I'll get the ball rolling with some stats from RSSSF and my take:

CHAMPIONSHIP

 1.Derby County            39  22  7 10  54-39  73
 2.Birmingham City         38  21  8  9  55-35  71
--------------------------------------------------
 3.Sunderland              39  21  7 11  60-39  70
 4.Preston North End       38  20  8 10  56-41  68
 5.Wolverhampton Wanderers 39  19  9 11  45-41  66
 6.West Bromwich Albion    39  18 10 11  66-46  64
 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
 7.Cardiff City            39  17 12 10  54-42  63
 8.Southampton             39  16 12 11  61-48  60
 9.Stoke City              39  15 13 11  47-33  58
10.Colchester United       39  16  8 15  57-48  56
11.Crystal Palace          39  15 10 14  48-43  55
12.Sheffield Wednesday     39  14 11 14  58-59  53
13.Plymouth Argyle         38  12 16 10  51-50  52
14.Coventry City           39  15  7 17  43-49  52
15.Norwich City            38  14  8 16  48-56  50
16.Ipswich Town            39  14  6 19  49-52  48
17.Leicester City          38  11 13 14  41-48  46
18.Burnley                 37  10 11 16  36-41  41
19.Hull City               39  11  8 20  41-58  41
20.Barnsley                39  12  5 22  45-69  41
21.Queens Park Rangers     38  10 10 18  45-59  40
--------------------------------------------------
22.Southend United         39   9 12 18  40-59  39
23.Luton Town              39   9  9 21  47-67  36
24.Leeds United            39  10  6 23  39-64  36

- It seems Birmingham and Derby are the favourites for the auto-spots, but it's a tight pack on top. Everyone all the way down to seventh-place Cardiff has a chance, IMO.

- Although I don't think their chances of auto-promotion are that great, Southampton and Stoke have decent playoff chances. Colchester, Palace and Wednesday have a chance, too, but they're fading fast.

- a bit of a log jam at the bottom. I hope QPR passes Barnsley and stays up, not so much because of Marc Bircham (Canadian national team guy) but because I HATE Barnsley. On another note, if Burnley makes the most of their two games in hand, they could be out of trouble in no time. I kinda feel bad for Leeds.

- seems the only team with Canadians on it that is doing any good is Derby!  Paul Peschisolido is something of a fan favourite in Ramsville. :D Although he's usually confined to the role of substitute, the Rams' site says, "when they need to nick a goal out of somewhere, he's usually the man to do it." Ipswich, QPR, Leicester, and Sheff W, on the other hand, are kinda bad. (The Sheff W guy plays for the U18 side)

DIVISION ONE

 1.S****horpe United       38  21 12  5  59-28  75
 2.Bristol City            38  21  8  9  53-34  71
--------------------------------------------------
 3.Nottingham Forest       38  19 10  9  50-35  67
 4.Yeovil Town             38  18 10 10  48-34  64
 5.Oldham Athletic         38  18  9 11  60-38  63
 6.Blackpool               37  16 11 10  51-38  59
 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
 7.Tranmere Rovers         38  16 11 11  48-39  59
 8.Swansea City            38  16 10 12  55-40  58
 9.Doncaster Rovers        38  14 12 12  42-39  54
10.Carlisle United         38  14 11 13  39-46  53
11.Millwall                38  15  7 16  47-51  52
12.Port Vale               38  15  5 18  50-50  50
13.Crewe Alexandra         38  14  7 17  57-62  49
14.Huddersfield Town       38  12 13 13  49-58  49
15.Northampton Town        38  12 12 14  38-39  48
16.Brighton & Hove Albion  38  13  9 16  43-48  48
17.Leyton Orient           38  11 13 14  52-62  46
18.Gillingham              38  13  7 18  46-63  46
19.AFC Bournemouth         38  11 10 17  40-52  43
20.Bradford City           38  10 11 17  41-51  41
--------------------------------------------------
21.Cheltenham Town         38  11  7 20  37-52  40
22.Chesterfield            38  10  9 19  39-47  39
23.Brentford               38   7 12 19  29-57  33
24.Rotherham United        37  11  8 18  50-60  31

- does anyone know what's up with Rotherham? Because they were docked ten for "financial problems."
- S****horpe looks to be running away with this league. Bristol City may have second looking locked down, but they still have three teams that could easily overtake them down the stretch.
- that sixth position in the tables is going to be hard as hell to lock down. In all fairness, Blackpool does have a game in hand on Tranmere, but look at the logjam right there. It's going to make for some exciting stretch-run football! GOD I wish I lived in England :D
- Rotherham would still be in the red even without the 10-point deduction, but they'd have a far better chance of getting out of it. I could see Bradford, Bournemouth, Chesterfield and Cheltenham really having a good go at each other to stay in Div One. Brentford's chances are fading fast, and despite having five more points than Rotherham, they have the worst record in Division One. Seven wins just ain't gon' cut it!

- there's only one Canadian in the entire division, that being Yeovil's D/M Gavin McCallum, who's spent the season on loan to Tamworth and later Crawley. So he's not much of a factor in Yeovil's success.

DIVISION TWO

 1.Hartlepool United       38  22  9  7  54-33  75
 2.Walsall                 38  20 12  6  55-27  72
 3.Milton Keynes Dons      38  21  7 10  65-51  70
--------------------------------------------------
 4.Lincoln City            38  20  7 11  65-50  67
 5.Swindon Town            37  20  7 10  47-32  67
 6.Stockport County        38  19  6 13  55-42  63
 7.Wycombe Wanderers       37  16 10 11  43-32  58

 8.Darlington              38  15 12 11  45-41  57
 9.Shrewsbury Town         35  13 14  8  54-35  53
10.Peterborough United     38  15  7 16  53-50  52
11.Bristol Rovers          37  14 10 13  40-39  52
12.Grimsby Town            38  15  5 18  45-60  50
13.Mansfield Town          38  13 10 15  53-52  49
14.Hereford United         38  13 10 15  42-46  49
15.Notts County            38  12 12 14  46-48  48
16.Chester City            38  12 11 15  36-38  47
17.Rochdale                36  12 10 14  48-39  46
18.Barnet                  38  12 10 16  45-57  46
19.Bury                    37  10  9 18  40-54  39
20.Accrington Stanley      38   9 11 18  54-67  38
21.Macclesfield Town       38   9 11 18  45-62  38
22.Boston United           38  10  8 20  44-69  38
--------------------------------------------------
23.Wrexham                 37   8 11 18  34-60  35
24.Torquay United          38   6 11 21  31-55  29

- it's way closer at the top here than it is in Division One, although probably not as close as in Championship. Good to see Milton Keynes finally on the rebound. From the looks of this they're one of 4 legit title contenders atm, although one still can't really tell with 10 or so games left.

- I'm happy to see Walsall doing so well, mostly because it's where my great-grandmother was born and raised, maybe in small part because of their acquisition of Canadian D/M Geordie Lyall from the Vancouver Whitecaps (the closest thing to a "big local club" I have at this point).

- Torquay have gotten third-string Lincoln G Simon Rayner (another Canook) on loan in desperation, trying to turn their p*ss-poor season around. They also have M Michal Misiewicz (yet another Canadian) in their U18 squad. A lot of good it's doing them lol.

- looks like quite the logjam at the bottom, but it's pretty defined - Rochdale are five up on Bury with a game in hand, then you have Bury, Macclesfield, Accrington (another Canadian, Thom MacLean, plays for their reserve team), Wrexham and Boston all within three of each other.

- on the flip side, the playoff race is looking like it isn't going to be too exciting. Maybe a couple of teams who are currently out of it that have a chance of getting back in, like Darlington and Peterborough. Swindon, Lincoln and Stockport are almost locks at this point. It's Wycombe that really needs to watch their back.

Some Conference stuff later.

Somehow I doubt they'll go lower than seventh in the tables. ;) I'd love to see someone knock Preston North End out of the playoffs, though. I've hated them since my days as a Latics supporter. Hate the team, hate the club, and above all, hate their hard-core fans. Only Gooners are lower in my opinion lol

If it's any consolation, Brighton still has an outside chance of making the Division One playoffs. The league is close enough that a cold streak by one of the higher-up teams or a hot streak by one of the mid-table teams could seriously change the table's complexion. ;)

Now as promised, some Conference stats.

CONFERENCE NATIONAL

1 0 Dagenham & Redbridge 39 24 10 5 80 38 42 82
2 0 Oxford United (R) 40 19 14 7 58 30 28 71
3 0 York City 39 19 10 10 58 40 18 67
 4 +1 Burton Albion 38 19 7 12 42 40 2 64
5 -1 Exeter City 38 17 11 10 54 41 13 62
6 0 Morecambe 38 17 11 10 48 40 8 62
  7 +1 Gravesend & Northfleet 37 16 10 11 48 45 3 58
  8 +1 Weymouth (P) 38 17 7 14 50 53 -3 58
9 -2 Stevenage Borough 36 17 6 13 62 52 10 57
10 0 Kidderminster Harriers 36 15 8 13 39 42 -3 53
11 0 Aldershot Town 37 14 9 14 53 53 0 51
12 0 Rushden & Diamonds (R) 36 13 10 13 43 40 3 49
13 +5 Altrincham 39 12 11 16 46 56 -10 47
14 +1 Woking 39 12 10 17 48 52 -4 46
15 +1 Stafford Rangers (P) 38 12 9 17 43 58 -15 45
16 -3 Forest Green Rovers 38 10 14 14 46 53 -7 44
17 -3 Crawley Town (-10) 38 15 8 15 45 45 0 43
18 +2 Cambridge United 40 11 10 19 44 61 -17 43
19 -2 Halifax Town 36 11 9 16 47 49 -2 42
20 +1 Northwich Victoria (P) 33 13 3 17 41 53 -12 42
21 -2 Tamworth 38 11 8 19 39 51 -12 41
22 0 Grays Athletic 37 9 11 17 48 49 -1 38
23 0 St Albans City (P) 39 9 9 21 52 74 -22 36
24 0 Southport 39 7 13 19 40 59 -19 34

- Dags & Reds look like they're running away with first place, although Oxford and York are both making a strong case for promotion. Should be an interesting fight for the other two playoff spots. Gravesend & Northfleet, featuring Canadian midfielder Ross Smith, are still very much alive in the race.

- Rushden & Diamonds appear to be doing better than they were when I last checked, when they were in the red zone.

- The fact that Crawley got dinged ten and are still in the mid-table speaks volumes. If they hadn't been dinged, they'd be in the playoff race, albeit barely.

CONFERENCE NORTH

1 0 Droylsden 35 19 7 9 77 52 25 64 Promoted

21 -2 Leigh RMI 35 11 5 19 40 56 -16 38 Relegated
22 0 Lancaster City (-10) 33 2 3 28 23 91 -68 -1 Relegated

- I could see this one going right down to the wire. Only six points separating second from ninth. Tenth-place Worcester City, with Canadian striker Justin Thompson, is slipping out of contention quickly. Relegation ought to be a close one, too, although Lancaster (holy crap, what happened with them?) are officially toast. Scarborough wouldn't be much better off without the 10-point ding. :P

CONFERENCE SOUTH

14 -1 Farnborough Town (-10) 34 14 8 12 48 45 3 40
15 +1 Bognor Regis Town 33 10 10 13 43 51 -8 40
16 -1 Dorchester Town 34 10 9 15 40 59 -19 39
17 0 Eastleigh 33 9 10 14 34 42 -8 37
18 0 Thurrock 34 8 9 17 48 68 -20 33
19 0 Weston-super-Mare 35 7 10 18 35 59 -24 31
20 +1 Basingstoke Town 33 5 14 14 39 53 -14 29
 21 -1 Hayes 34 7 8 19 36 64 -28 29
22 0 Bedford Town (P) 34 6 5 23 32 65 -33 23

- an interesting league, this. I see a three-way dogfight for championship standing opening up at the top. Farnborough would be right in the thick of the playoff race if not for that ten-point ding. It's pretty close at the bottom, too - a Basingstoke hot streak could get them out of trouble, while a Bognor Regis cold streak could really put them in jeopardy. Lewes  is in trouble because most of the teams ahead of them have three or four games in hand on them.

Come on Basingstoke too beat the drop! If Everton can do it every year since 1990 then you lads can!

I want Palace too come up to the Prem as I used too watch Wimbldeon a bit when I was younger and I love Selhurst Park. Under any circumstances Cardiff must not be allowed into the Premiership.

22 0 Southend United (P) 40 9 12 19 40 63 -23 39
23 +1 Leeds United 40 11 6 23 41 65 -24 39
24 -1 Luton Town 40 9 10 21 47 67 -20 37

- things starting to loosen up a little at the top. Although there are six matches left, and mathematically, anyone as low as Colchester has a chance at top, I can only see one of Derby, Birmingham or Sunderland pulling it off. Something tells me it'll be two of those three going up automatically.

- I think that the other three current playoff spot holders (Preston Gimps End, West Bumwich Albion and Wolverhampton) will have to have eyes in the backs of their heads for the rest of the season. Southampton are three back of Wolves, but they absolutely clobbered the same this past weekend in what was a real statement match for Southampton. They sure mean business! Cardiff is also lurking, but the momentum is against them now as they've just come off dropping the Sunderland match.

- if you do the math, only the three red-zone teams, as well as Hull, Barnsley and QPR, are mathematically out of reach of a playoff spot, although Burnley is pretty well hooped as well. On the flip side, everyone from tenth up is mathematically safe from relegation.

- at the bottom, Burnley really need to take advantage of their two games in hand on the red-zoners. If they drop both, they're in serious trouble. Barnsley remains ahead of QPR by a point, but QPR has a game in hand. It's incredibly close. Any three of those last eight squads (Leics down) could go under. Leicester, though, is a long shot to drop, IMO.

DIVISION ONE

15 -1 Huddersfield Town 40 12 15 13 51 60 -9 51
16 +2 AFC Bournemouth 40 13 10 17 44 52 -8 49
17 +2 Gillingham 40 14 7 19 48 69 -21 49
18 -3 Northampton Town (P) 40 12 12 16 39 43 -4 48
19 -2 Leyton Orient (P) 40 11 14 15 55 66 -11 47
20 +2 Cheltenham Town (P) 40 12 7 21 39 56 -17 43
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
21 -1 Bradford City 40 10 11 19 42 56 -14 41
22 -1 Chesterfield 40 10 10 20 40 49 -9 40
23 +1 Rotherham United (-10) 40 12 8 20 51 63 -12 34
24 -1 Brentford 40 7 13 20 32 61 -29 34

- S****horpe, Bristol and Nottingham Forest seem to have kept pace with each other over the last couple of matches. Yeovil has slipped a little but are still fairly secure, six points ahead of the best non-playoff team (Swansea, as you can see :p). Carlisle has been charging hard, but Milwall and Port Vale have looked half-arsed and Doncaster is really starting to slide. Tranmere hasn't been particularly impressive, either. Neither have Swansea, but at least they've pulled into the rear-view mirrors of Blackpool:spoton:

- time for the math again. Everyone from Doncaster up is officially safe, while Leyton Orient down are screwed, with Northampton, Gillingham and Bournemouth all but out of contention at this point. Furthermore, Brighton, Huddersfield and Crewe aren't looking like they have too good a chance.

- my friend Kier must be loving Div 1 this season. Not only are Bradford City in the red, but Oldham Athletic are seeming to be firmly in playoff position. Although Cheltenham is the only non-red team really in a pickle, all the other teams that are eliminated from the playoffs need to be wary. Provided nobody else wins (a football impossibility) Brentford is only three losses away from total elimination from the division, but wins for Cheltenham will bring that about much sooner. Same for Rotherham. Someone stick a fork in those two.

DIVISION TWO

1 0 Hartlepool United (R) 40 24 9 7 60 33 27 81
2 0 Walsall (R) 40 21 13 6 59 30 29 76
3 +2 Swindon Town (R) 39 22 7 10 52 35 17 73
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
4 -1 Milton Keynes Dons (R) 40 21 9 10 66 52 14 72
5 -1 Lincoln City 40 20 7 13 67 55 12 67
6 0 Stockport County 40 19 6 15 57 50 7 63
7 0 Wycombe Wanderers 40 16 12 12 46 36 10 60
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
8 +1 Shrewsbury Town 38 15 14 9 59 37 22 59
9 -1 Darlington 40 15 12 13 46 46 0 57
10 0 Peterborough United 40 16 8 16 58 53 5 56
11 0 Bristol Rovers 39 15 10 14 41 40 1 55
12 +4 Notts County 40 14 12 14 49 48 1 54
13 +4 Rochdale 39 14 10 15 57 44 13 52
14 0 Mansfield Town 40 13 11 16 54 54 0 50
15 -3 Chester City 40 13 11 16 38 41 -3 50
16 -1 Hereford United (P) 40 13 11 16 42 48 -6 50
17 -4 Grimsby Town 40 15 5 20 45 64 -19 50
18 0 Barnet 40 13 10 17 47 60 -13 49
19 +1 Bury 39 11 9 19 41 55 -14 42
20 +2 Accrington Stanley (P) 40 10 11 19 58 70 -12 41
21 -2 Macclesfield Town 39 10 11 18 47 63 -16 41
22 +1 Wrexham 39 9 12 18 35 60 -25 39
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
23 -2 Boston United 40 10 9 21 44 70 -26 39
24 0 Torquay United 40 7 11 22 32 56 -24 32

- Wycombe may be in the last playoff spot at the moment, but ya gotta like Shrewsbury's chances of bumping them out, with those two games at hand. Even if they only took two out of six possible points from those matches, they'd be in position. As you can see, the four teams relegated from Div One last season appear to be firmly cemented in at least a decent playoff position. Rochdale really seems determined to get into the playoffs, too, so watch out for them, especially considering that they have a game in hand on all of the playoff teams and all but Bristol and Shrewsbury ahead of them. Bristol Rovers could sneak in as well.

- however, despite all this, Rochdale are not mathematically safe from relegation... yet. The magic number is currently 57, although that'll drop to 54 should Boston and/or Wrexham lose their next outing. Oddly enough, while ASFC are out of contention, Macclesfield can still max out at 62, so they're still in, if only by the math. (That shouldn't last too long.)

- I don't think Torquay is going to survive, even after they somehow pulled a victory out of the bag last match. Boston, on the other hand, is still very much alive. Or, looking at it from the other side, Bury, Acc. Stanley, Wrexham and Macclesfield are still very much in danger! It should make for some exciting football down the stretch.
