Petition Against Olympic Stadium
« on: October 14, 2010, 09:47:40 PM »

Click on the link here to sign a petition against Spurs moving into the Olympic Stadium.

Biggs it would be a great help if you could submit this petition on the news feed, so it goes up on NewsNow.

Full information can be found below (taken from the petition details)

___________

It has become clear over recent times that the board of Tottenham Hotspur are seriously considering a potential move to the Olympic Stadium Site in Stratford as an alternative to the redevelopment of White Hart Lane and remaining in Tottenham/Haringey.

It seems there are many reasons for this and that, at least in public, a final decision has yet to be made. However, the concept of such a move has upset many, but the collective voice of those supporters has yet to have been expressed.

I understand the club may feel it needs a 'Plan B' alternative, however, as the costs appear to rise, despite receiving planning permission for the 'Northumberland Development Project' it seems the cheaper option of a move becomes ever more real, particularly in view of our tie-up with AEG, who, i quote, 'do not back losers'.

I am one who would prefer to remain at White Hart Lane in Tottenham, as it stands today, rather than move to Stratford chasing the revenue from a larger stadium. Such a move would, for me, destroy Tottenham and all it has stood for the day we leave our home.

We need a larger stadium, but we need it in our home and I for one would rather wait to acheive that, as we have done until now, rather than leave for East London.

I urge anyone who feels the same way to sign this petition, so that we might go to Daniel Levy and the Spurs board with one united voice should the decision ever be taken to leave/

I will leave you with one thought, if you aren't sure how you feel:

Imagine sitting down on a Saturday to watch the greatest London Derby, before you find out there is only one North London club and they play in Red. The advert pops up for the 'East London Derby' a 'grudge match' between Spurs and West Ham. Would football ever really be the same again?
Get Moussa Sissoko In Spurs!!!!

And come on City, break that bloomin' top 4!

I'm all in favour of it.... 60k+ seater at no capital expense.... great rail-links for the supporters to access it (then get the hell outta the s**thole afterwards asap - very important this)......we cwould be a major player on the CL-stage for the next 20yrs minimum..

also has the added advantage of hopefully discouraging the ye olde dinosaurs that keep harkening back to a rose-tinted past.... should be replenished easily with a new wave of 21st Century Spurs supporters that might actually live in London (amazing this, I know)...

can't help but add to this further..

the East London derby analogy is vacuous nowadays as, I'd wager, 90% of the supporters of the club dont even actually live in North London anymore.... also we would still be a London club, whether North, East, or East North East.... it may actually help all the Essex-men reach the stadium even...

outside of the die-hards most would still continue to regard it as a London club..... and we would have a ready-made state-of-the-art stadium with no capital-outlay.... do you even begin to realise the significance of this ??.... it means that we won't do an Ars*nal or even the sorry Liverpool in channelling most of our revenues into servicing DEBTfor the next 10yrs..... we can actually continue to maintain the very high quality of the team/squad for the next decade...

the last point may be 1 you need to think about the most..

What is more important keeping with our great past, tradition and heritage whilts holding on to nostalgia or moving forward and developing our full potential as a club.

I would go with the latter but ensuring that our values as a club are not lost, moving out of WHL & North London would feel weird, maybe even sad but at the same time an exciting re-birth but whilst almost feeling like we are taking a big dump on the memories of what has been achieved in the past but its exactly that the past.

If we could secure the Olympic Staduim, a ready made state of the art, huge capacity and icinic land mark status as our new ground I think we should take it and continue in developing the club, as much as I love WHL its dated with shyte transport access and cant meet the demands of season ticket holders alone, which in itself is losing the club revenue.  Yes revenue is a key part of todays game just ask any Man City and Chelski supporter and to maximise our development we need a ground to match our ambition and aid with revenue growth and if its possible to get a ground like the OS without the cost that would be required to redevlope WHL or build a new stadium I say we go for it.

Can anyone remember the days of Scholar when we nearly went down the toilet, not that long ago lets keep moving forward with development on and off the pitch.

Good luck Levy with the attempt it will be a good day for the club if we get it!

I'm probably a bit biased here as I've moved to the states. But either way we need to move or build a new stadium. In comparison to other clubs we're already pretty financially stable. If we get the OS we would save a fortune. That would only help us on the pitch.  It's not like they're talking about us sharing a stadium like I keep reading about with Everton and Liverpool.

Ideally I'd like us to stay in Tottenham, we are Tottenham Hotspur after all. But if we cant build the new ground ( which I think we will ) the Olympic Stadium would be a good option. Wherever we go I just hope it is easier to obtain tickets than it is now.

I would be very surprised if we get the Olympic Stadium, UK Athletics have backed the bid by West Ham. Plus when you see the plans for the redevelopment of WHL surely you must agree if that stadium was built we would be the envy of every club in the land and most of Europe too !!!!!

Absolutley. And it will be fascinating to see it being built as the old ground continues to be used. The artists impressions are magnificent and the benefits for the local area will be imeasurable. I assume something will be done about the transport links as the local infrastructure can barely cope with 38,000 let alone the huge increase in traffic that will come with the new development. If it all falls through and we have to go to the Olympic stadium then so be it, but here's hoping that we can stay in Tottenham.

I won't be signing the petition as i trust Levy and the board will do whats best for the club, wether it be redevolping WHL or moving to the Olympic Stadium.

I was originally against the idea of moving but some good points have been raised in favour of the Olympic Staduim so which ever Spurs choose will have its pro and cons and we as fans will have to deal with.

Either way we shall be (hopefully) getting a spanking new staduim to bring us right up into the 21 century!

i live up north and to see my team then it is usually away games like at wigan and bolton.  not exciting compared to other fixtures but i find it increasingly difficult to getra ticket at the lane.  Id love to go and see the boys more at home but its  a question of ticket allocation and i am down the pecking order.  as much as the lane is the home of the club i would love to see us have a stadium of 60+and if it the olympic one then so be it.  Its a tough call for  the club to want to move but finacially it makes sence.  You know the club, team and the ground are what we make it.  History and tradition is one thing but they are a business and i have a lot of time for mr L and his business prowess.
