Levy confirms 2012 Olympic stadium intrest

Quote
“I can confirm we have registered an interest in the Olympic Stadium site within the deadline of September 30, in conjunction with AEG (Europe), the world’s largest entertainment and facilities management company.

“It is only prudent and good management that we ensure that we investigate all possible options for the club. We were informed by the Olympic Park Legacy Company that were we not to register an interest at this time, there would not be an opportunity at any future date.

“We have always maintained that we wouldn’t undertake any project that could undermine the overall financial stability and future success of the club and this shall remain our guiding principle going forward and in determining our best option in the interests of the club and all its fans and shareholders.”

What do you guys think about this?

Personally i would like to stay in WHL as long as possible. But maybe we have to move because of building work for the new stadium

I was under the impression that the last few obstacles for the planning on the new stadium were almost sorted and permission was about to be given !!!!

Can't see the reasoning behind it unless like it says we are covering every possibility, and I suppose also that it would mean that we wouldn't have to build a stadium and incur the cost.

REALLY would like to stay at WHL though !!

considering the vast majority of actual Spurs SUPPORTERS dont live anywhere near WHL nowadays, does it really matter if the club moves to the Olympic Stadium, as long as the rail links are great ??..... NO.

time to stop this clinging and roll with the times..... getting a ready-made 60,000 seater for leasing will be HUGE in allowing the team to carry on at the same level.... or do we want to go thru the spending-level of Ars*nal for the next 10yrs paying for a new stadium ??...

I would LOVE the new Olympic Stadium to be our new home, and stop it being another white-elephant 5mins after the Games close....

I would hate it if we move to the Olympic stadium, i know we have terrific support but could we really fill a 80,000 seater? I dont think so. I can see it being lifeless and soulless because like alot of the stadiums in Italy they have a running track around the pitch and the stands are miles away from the pitch and it takes the atmosphere away. Also its in east london, and we arent following suit like those woolwich wanderes gypseys. White Hart Lane is our home and long may we stay there!

London has a huge poulation.... most fans cannot get season-tickets to watch a Prem team locally...

we have 20,000+ ppl on the season-ticket waiting list.... easily make it up to 70,000+ from the millions waiting to watch a good team in the Prem...

WHL is dead 1 way or another, with a new stadium coming from somewhere.... FACT.

Spoken like a true non fan or non supporter.... you really have no idea about supporting a football team do you Gareth. White Hart Lane has been our home for 111 years and holds memories of great players, teams and occasions.... leaving the ground or the site should be the last resort not a black and white balance sheet thing.

Try to understand the passion that supporters like us that have 'visited' the ground and spent hours watching our beloved Tottenham feel it is almost a religion to most of us. People like yourself who claim to be some kind of Spurs follower (although I doubt that very much) have absolutely no idea what it means to stand on the terraces and taste the atmosphere and share the joys and sorrows with 30,000+ other like minded people. I find your input on this subject is irrelavant due to your lack of support !!!!!

The thing is any application to use the Olympic stadium had to be in by 30th September. As planning has not been fully ratified for the new stadium at WHL (the local council have given it 100% backing but it still has to be approved by English Heritage and the Mayors office ) we had to put our Olympic stadium plan just in case our main plan went pear shaped.

I agree that it was a tactical ploy by Levy to submit a bid at this stage before deadline... insurance/leverage, keeping options open as long as possible..

and for the WHL cling-ons.... maybe the new state-of-the-art, 60,000 seater Stadio Olympico will put Spurs on a world-stage finally.... the revenues generated will put us on a par with Ars*nal even...

time to think big-time.... not small.

It's all about Levy just being clever and a good move for leverage and just to piss off a few Hammers fans i know!

I would hate for this to be our new home for all the same reasons UGS said above. I know plenty of teams have moved before but most have been in one or two team towns/cities. London is a completely different situation and areas/boroughs etc mean so much.

Football is the fans sport and all the johnny come lately and people obsessed by finances just don't get it. Everyone earns more, everyone spends more, everyone borrows more but there can still only be one winner of each tournament.

The only problem(s) i have with the Olympic stadium as our new ground is we wouldn't be in Tottenham anymore. East London Hotspur just doens't quite have the same ring to it.

And secondly, Olympic stadiums don't gererate truley great aptmosphere's. The fans aren't anywhere near the pitch mainly, due to some daft running track inbetween the pitch and fans. All the suppoters may well watch the games at home if we are going to be that far away from the action.

So to be fair i couldn't give a rats how long it takes to get home from the Lane, just as long as Spurs play in Tottenham (and the fans can remain close to the pitch, re-generating those cracking atmopheric nights we have witnessed at WHL)

The Olympic stadium would be knocked down to 50,000-40,000 seater and the running track ripped out, Just what has happend to Manchester Citys ground, the stadium was built for the 2002 commonwealth games.

I have no idea what a DDOS attack is but it sounds a bit like a girl with large breasts attacking us? Is there any video of the attack as i would like to watch that one day?

I agree with you a definite ploy by Levy to get total approval from all parties!!

here's a recent statement on it

Quote
"We are aware that coverage of comments   made by AEG has been interpreted in various ways concerning the club's   position in respect of the Northumberland Development Project and the   Olympic site," Spurs said in a statement released on their official website.
"We   should like to make two things absolutely clear at this stage: firstly,   we have registered an interest in the Olympic Stadium site in order to   keep our options open going forward.
"This is a very preliminary   stage and a pre-qualification questionnaire was completed jointly with   AEG in order to meet the deadline for registration.
"Secondly, we   continue to progress the application for the Northumberland Development   Project with Haringey Council and will continue to do so with a view to   achieving full consent.
"We have not changed our position and shall not do so without due consideration."
