Jenas was kept from injury against Fulham, thats why Sandra played.... Crouch too only came on for the last 20mins cos Pav is useless at holding the ball if we play on the counter when we lead in games..

I suspect that Arry has playing Jenas as a 2nd striker in mind on Wednesday, just behind Crouch.... that way he can have the 5 in' midfield' against top opponents, and also rely on JJs pace to counter alongside Lennon and Bale...

Sorry Biggs, not sure what you needed to edit but I had been out at a corporate all day drinking session on Saturday so was slightly dreading reading any of my post!

Hopefully my direct and rather poor use of the English language didn't offend too many others on the site.

not that it'll make the slightest bit of diff, but here's why Jenas didnt play last season.... and why Inter Milan...that's INTER MILAN..... was turned down by the Jenius summer before last...

Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas has admitted that the 'Jose Mourinho factor' almost took him to Inter Milan.

The England international was a target for the Italian giants last summer, as they prepared to embark on an historic campaign which would lead them to an unprecedented Treble.

In the end their efforts to snatch Jenas away from White Hart Lane came to nothing, with the 27-year-old determined to force his way back into the Spurs side after slipping down the pecking order.

He believes that he made the right decision for his career, but admits that he was tempted to embrace the opportunity to work under one of the most charismatic and highly-rated coaches in world football.

"It was something that would turn a footballer's head because you want to play in Europe and Inter went on to win the Champions League last year," Jenas told the Evening Standard.

"The Jose Mourinho factor was there and a lot of players would love to play for him. At that particular time I am not going to say it did not interest me.

"I am very happy in the Premier League and I like being in London but Italy had not come into my mind until Mourinho started talking."

Jenas may have been tempted to walk away from Tottenham as niggling knocks had started to take their toll.

His desire to play could only take him so far and he admits that he did himself no favours by pushing his body to its limits in order to take to the field.

"I was using painkillers to mask the problems," he revealed.

"When Harry Redknapp arrived in October 2008, we drew 4-4 with Ars*nal in his second game and I had about six injections in my toe, three at the start and three more at half-time, just to get through the match and I was also struggling with my groin.

"I did that for about five or six months because we had a new manager and I was trying to impress. There were a couple of times where we played abroad and the gaffer said to me: 'Look, there is no point having these injections for this game, just leave it'. I was even having them before training to get through the session.

"Eventually your body tells you that you just cannot do this any more, there was a hole in my stomach and it had to get sorted so I flew off to Germany in March this year for an operation.

"Four days after the surgery I was running again. They advise that but it was painful and we had a lot of injuries at Spurs so I was desperate to get back in the team but in doing that I was picking up other things.

"I was not fully fit until the last five games of the season but did not really play any part in the run-in as we finished fourth."

Jenas has returned to the fold this season, though, and, with 21 caps to his name, is targeting an England recall in the not too distant future.

He said: "I feel that I am back in the groove and I am playing Champions League football so I would like to think that I am on (Fabio) Capello's mind.

"The next competitive game is not until next March but there are a couple of friendlies before then so it would be great to get back into the squad but playing well and consistently for Spurs comes first."

well I guess 2moro's game against the mighty Inter Milan, current Champions of Europe, is our biggest game of the season so far.... and we have all our central-midfielders fit and raring to go...

so if Arry chooses to play Jenas from a field of JJ, THudd, Modric, Sandro, even Kranjcar.... its gonna be cos Jenas is 1 of the 2 best CMs at Spurs...

and if he plays Jenas as a counter-attacking midfielder come 2nd-striker (and I think he just might).... it means that he's better in that role than the hugely over-rated Modric...

truth will out soon enough

I actually think that Jenas will do well in European Games. He is not really cut out for the physical side of the Prem but in Europe, where they play at a more relaxed tempo and put more emphasis on retaining the ball, he may very well shine. I was surprised that Inter seemed so keen to sign him but Jose can obviously see something there that he felt would translate well to the Italian game.

thats a nice little get-out clause for the anti-JJs: 'he should do well in European games cos its less ffizzzical blah di blah''...... you mean as opposed to the great Modric's ability to shine against over-physical teams lol...

I think playing well against the current Champions of Europe will be a tad more diff than to look like a footballer against the likes of Blackbum Gropers...

Gareth if Jenas does play then I really hope he proves everyone on this forum wrong by having an absolute blinding game and scoring 2 or 3 goals and sets up another 2 or 3. Honestly I really do, he is a member of our squad and although he's not one of my favourite players I will support and back him to the hilt while he wears the lillywhite shirt.

However if you are honest as I try to be he has been poor in the last 12 to 18 months, and yes I know he has been injured and in and out of the team but he is an established premiership player and should be able to deal with that.

If however he isn't picked tomorrow and others start in front of him will you then accept that he isn't actually on of our best CM's and the talentless players that we have in CM might actually be better than him at this moment in his career ?

sorry I can't accept that... when you start with the premise that he has been bad for the last '12 to 18months', well that simply is more propaganda badmouthing Jenas isnt it..

1) he was injured for virtually the whole of last season, mainly thru rushing back too early from injury.... how exactly is any player supposed to 'deal with that' ??.....

2) for the 6 months (half a season) preceding that: Nov-May '08 after Arry took over Jenas was 1 of the best players for Spurs as we went from relegation-fodder to near Euro qualification.... he had plenty of excellent games for a 4-5 month period forming an excellent CM-pairing with Palacios.... how you can say he was poor there is simply beyond reason... he had many outstanding games as well as good solid ones... you simply can't remember this fact cos you (and others like you) don't want to...

Jenas will have a starting role in the team 2moro against the best team in Europe last season.... have no doubts about it..... because whenever he is fit, he is quite simply the best allround CM Spurs have had in the last decade (and counting)..
