But ugs certainly that could be implied to Messi? Yet he is known as the world's best footballer last season.

Very true but I think as someone said earlier you need to look at their whole career and to be fair I thought he was one of the best players at this years World Cup even though he didn't score !!

I wonder what number the first spurs player would be?

I think the best way to judge whether we have world class players is whether they attract interest from the top european teams. By that standard, Bale is there, and probably Modric too. Someone like Bentley attracts interest from Fulham - which says it all...

Sorry that list doesn't add up for me =p the simple fact that John Terry outranks Cashley is beyond me.  2 Years ago, I honestly think (as difficult as it is to say) Cashley was outright the best left back in the world....any team would have had him in their first 11.  I don't think I've ever been able to even contemplate saying the same about John Terry.

There are players in that list lower than "JT" that he couldn't hold a candle to on his best day!  (Can you tell I'm not a fan??!!)

True~ Very true~ although i gotta say JT was awesome during Mourinho's era at chelskum. I think his value went up since then. Although right now you can say his stocks are rapidly falling haha!

There are more floors in that list than the sears tower to be honest.

I reckon we have a few players that fit the category of world class .....although not the best in the world they could hold their own in a world class game. Maybe coming off the bench.

After tonight I reckon defoe wouldnt do too badly for a half, Modric would get 45 mins, lennon also 45 mins, King if he were not impaired would have been possibly the best CB in the world, Bale is 45 mins worth at the least, Gomes 40 mins.......Keane at his best a few years back would have held his own for 20 mins or so.

To clarify .....thats if the messi's and kaka's etc were taken off injured.

I suppose that means ..............no then.......when you really whittle it down .......we have no ....outstanding bang on, out and out... World class players

Van der Vaart ....may change all that.....fingers crossed.

Drogba, Essian are the only two in the EPL for me. There are many other great pleayers kicking about but World Class.....don't think so.

** It should be noted i have been wrong many times in the past

What about Rooney, Torres, Fabregas, Reina, A.Cole and Evra..... all are world class if you ask me!

Evra- Tragic, totally all at sea for the poor Frenchies at world cup, including getting skinned for a couple of goals really badly.

Rooney, please! Great player, hard worker etc etc but has not world class, thats all just an English media thing.

Torres, tough call because on his day he is brilliant so i am going to give you that one, even though at international level Villa has proved over and over again to be world class.....not so much the Torres yet.

Reina, great keeper but not close to being world class for me

A Hole, Ripped a new one on a few occasions for England during world cup, including getting caught a few times by simple balls played inside him. Attacking full back I say great, pace at back great but would i ever have a good word to say about the prick....no

Fabregas, In the spain team....no. World class.....no. Perhaps being harsh as he is up against two of the best midfielders in the world but tough he's a goon so no he isnt getting in either!

As you can see i am biased as f*ck but the real thing for me is my World Class Definition is Platini, Zidane, Matthaus, Messi, Maradona etc etc the next level down of great players would have way too many to bother categorising.

Just my simple thoughts so no problem we disagree, healthy debate

Fair enough mate   i see your opinions on those players i named. I still however disagree with your thoughts on Evra, Rooney and Fabregas, all are fantastic players and i'd say they are in the category of World Class as they play their trade in what i think is the toughest league in the world.

Is it important for any club to have world class players? What is important, and I would rather have, is a team that knitted together and worked together. Alf Ramsey did it and won the league with unknowns. Granted it was in a different era.

I would rather see a team that worked well together of unknowns that a team of well-known international players who couldn’t work together. I remember going and seeing Spurs when they had Gascoigne in the side. When he was playing we did well, but as soon as he was out we collapsed. I know we are in a time of celebrity footballers and it is part and parcel of football today but I still would prefer a team work. After all football is about the whole and not the singular.

But then again, too few to mention.

And saw it through without exemption.

Wow reading that was like seeing lost old friends, what has happened to Millers, Dedleysting and CountPuchi (who sent me the template for my THFC tattoo) would be great to hear from these supporters and have them post again.

THFC "COYS" and that is all I have to say about that!

If my suggestion is taken up then they could all be rushing back to a home reunion. Of course subtracting those that turned into Ars*nal supporters, dead, lost interest or joined a forum that has spiritual connections with Danny Blanchflower.
