At the beginnig of last season 06/07 I wanted to see consistency from Spurs. Of course I would have been over the moon with 4th spot but far more importantly we needed to demonstrate that we had moved on as a team and as an organisation/football club and were able to put in a run of consistent good performances over a number of seasons. In my opinion we are still building and we shouldn't expect too much too soon. I know there are loads of people who want champs league next year and I do too but not at the expense of consistency. After 29 years of supporting Spurs I am happy to wait a few more seasons especially if we see improvements in consecutive seasons. This year we got 5th again and made progress in the cups. next year 5th and more progress plus a final or even a league cup would still be excellent and would represent consolidation and progress. Let us not forget the bigger picuture or the years of hurt and pain! The Chairman is leading the club in the right direction with the right strategic plans with an excellent manager, staff and some very good players. Be under no illusion, next season will be tough and we need to get off to a good start. I am very optimitic though and it is nice to be a Spurs fan with something other than the usual blind faith to look forward.

I agree with you mate.

but now day we cannot afford to take time for a few reasons

1. Players get frustrated and want CL football like Berbatov
2. Other clubs just get better and better and if we dont start improving quickly we will fall behind

i think to get to the next step we really need to spend some serious chas. Jol has said we are rich so why not Spend it

Yeah i agree to, but like Biggs said, the longer we take to crack the top 4 the more fustrated players like Berbatov will become and he might actually leave GOD FORBID!!

I actually truly believe with a good start this next season, ala 2005-2006, as well as keeping our excellant record at home, breaking into the top 4 this season is possible. Everton did it 2 years ago!!!! No disrespect to the Toffee men they did a fantacstic job that season, but our squad is better and we are a better side than them!
If we manage to sign a left winger e.g. pederson or Sneijder etc we will definalty be there, or there abouts, in terms of squad strength!
More conistancy is needed away form the lane, but towards the end of last season, we really started to click away from home with some good performances and a couple of fine wins e.g Middlesbrough (difficult place to win at), Charlton (There team then was battleing for their lives), Everton (European qualifiers themselves)!!!

2007- 2008 is going to be one hell of a journey, COME ON YOU SPURS, lets show the top 4 what were made of!!!

If we win a trophy next season/come 4th, Berba's definetly staying, if we get 2 a final he could stay...

I agree with both sides of the argument...

We need 2 improve next yr by getting 2 at least a final... If we do the same as this year, then I think Berba may leave. This upcoming season could be decisive in whether we stay behind and loose Berba or win trophies and make real progress...
Get Moussa Sissoko In Spurs!!!!

And come on City, break that bloomin' top 4!

On the Berbatov side of leaving trophies is a must dont mind which one it is we have to win one to keep hold of not just Berba but other best players we have got in our team.

The Berbatov point is a good one and abviously we wouldn't want him to leave. However, we did finish 5th without him 05/06. We simply cannot plan for the long term around just one player. They come, they go for any number of different reasons. It would be a problem if we lost a few players but I don't believe that would happen unless we got back into our old habits of being inconsistent. If we build we will have a better chance of attracting top talent should Berbs leave.
This is one of those threads where we could get into an arguement when essentially we agree on the fundamental point. Stability, consistency and growth = trophies and top four for GLORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SPURS...don't you love em in an intangible all consuming kind of way?

I don't believe we are. We need Berbatov to stay as he is one of the best in th business rite now!
Should we keep him, that in turn will attract more players of Berbas cailbre to the club, moving us forward, not only in England but in European and world football!!! :dance2:

I agree, we can't sit back and just become a club that buys and sells on the next season as that won't help us with consistency or winning a trophy/top 4. And it's true that the more world class players like Berba we can keep the more attractive we become to other world class players.

also i think key for next season is out away form. at home i think we can beat anyone on our day. but away from home last season we were very dodgy. if we would have sorted that out early this season i think we would have finished 4th.

We shouldn't expect to much to soon. Things have finally swung our way and we don't wanna **** it up by getting to excited and demanding too much from the players and Martin Jol.

I find threads like this frustrating, simply because the quality of the side is staring us in the face, one or two adjustments and signings and we honestly can achieve things.

I strongly believe in Jol and the board, plus I really don't think Berbatov is as heartless and self-fish as we sometimes make out. Surely if he enjoys the football then its all good. Plus I seem to remember him saying in an interview that he's never had fans singing songs about him, so it must be obvious we hold him in truly high regard.

I feel the good times are on the horizon, we've just got to be patient and see what happens.

Agree completely with the sympathy. But we must go for CL.  Imagine, Berba helps us get there, he will then want to follow it through.  We could do well in CL - look how good the English teams did this year.   the English Prem is the best around and top 4/5 in England is probably top 10 in Europe.

I think this post sums up everything to me, do we build staedly and have success for the next 10 years or do we go for it like Newcastle and Leeds? When you look at our club the players the manager and how much we spend, where shoud we be? Right where we are?
Can we be better than A*****L, Liverpool I do hope so, but the scousers are going to spend big this year by all accounts. I hope the south Londoners have blown it with that rubbish no atmoshpere stadium they built the wrong side of the river. But I have been hoping their bubble will burst for 20 years and there still there.
I think comolli and the board have got it right they are building the right way and Spurs play football that everyone likes to see played fairly and thats what makes us Spurs fans not where you were born. When I go away with spurs and I meet that crowd from the west country the fellas from Burnley and the nutter who travels down from scotland I ask myself why would you do that and the answer is one day Spurs will get it right and people will see why we are spurs fans.

So I have waited years for Spurs success and if I have to wait more years I will, but I just feel its around the corner for us, so close I can taste it.

Great words, Glen. An example from me to illustrate how am I felling about that very same thing with success in the club and long does it take.

I myself have a strange feeling today. You all know I am slating Jermaine Jenas all around. To sum it up: for me JJ can not pass well, his crossings and freekicks suck big time, his runs need to be improved, he only hits good a couple of shots in a while.

I was just sitting wondering why the heck is Jol so stubborn in pushing JJ to the team. And suddenly it hit me that it was not me who is watching JJ everyday training and it is surely Jol that knows better what his real abilities are.

So, it's just the same with Tottenham. We , the supporters, who know all the athmosphere, know we have a great club in here pushing for greatness, while the outsiders are "slating" and joking about our no-thropies streak ... Surely, it has to be the same with Jol and JJ ...

Hopefully, for both Tottenham and Jenas it will prove to be the season to go and shine that league that we know is rightfully ours !!
