Latest News on White Hart Lane + Petition
« on: April 17, 2007, 07:01:23 PM »
As you may know, there’s been a lot of talk around the stadium situation, with WHL being too small as ticket prices are so high and it being hard to get tickets. I personally find this very frustrating as I want to cheer on the side that I am so passionate about.
I then found this petition, which will ask for the extension + improvement of the Victoria line, so there is a station next to WHL. As Spurs have had plans accepted by the council but rejected by the government and so underground as the extension would cost too much. The council is planning to try again by 2007/8 and if this petition gets enough signatures then this will help the plans a lot. The petition at the moment has only 5,800 and really that number needs to rise to ideally 10-30,000, to catch the attention of no.10. If the plans are accepted, there are numerous of rumors on what might happen. The focus seems to be on the west and east stand as there seems to be more land available near them. There is talk of the pitch being flipped round and shortening the east and west stands and making them the goal side stands. The other rumor is that the east stand will be a massive 3 tier stand while the other stands being redeveloped but on a much smaller scale. As well as this, it is rumored that Spurs would move to Wembley while WHL is redeveloped but this is some what unlikely due to the FAs promises to the locals. The new WHL could see a new capacity of 45-55,000 depending on the circumstances.
However if the petition/plans aren’t successful then spurs may look to another location for a bigger stadium and as it costs a lot of money, we will have to wait for big investors or a much larger turnover and the building of a new stadium may take a couple of years as well as our push to become a major club in England could take a number of years – so it would be a long time before we would see a new stadium. Also we will lose WHL, with its great tradition, beauty and most of all electric atmosphere. Many players and visiting fans comment on the brilliance of WHL as players describe it feeling as though the fans are on top of them, so it would be a shame to I expect all fans if we lost WHL. Also Sir Keith Mills says the decision will be made in 9 months or so, so this is the last chance for a petition…
Spurs’ short term plans for the stadium is that the pillars will be removed, increasing the capacity to just under 40,000 and the back wall will be replaced with glass, as well as redeveloping the West stand. Also recently the club has announced that the North stand (Paxton) will allow only adults with juniors to attend games there and advise adult season ticket holders to sit somewhere else., as they are trying to encourage children and young families to visit the Lane more often.

Signed. Good piece, that makes the issues quite clear. I hope we are able to stay at WHL. Looking at clubs that have moved, Southampton, Sunderland for example, none of them seem to have moved up as a result.
Oh, I nearly forgot... and Ars*nal!:10900:

You got a good point there...

Well, I think us fans deserve a new/redeveloped stadium.

I think we should wait 4 some company to invest in the stadium, so we can keep Levy's money 4 new signings...

I'm not sure if Levy has any money off his own invested in Spurs he is the frontman for Enic the company that owns majority shareholdings in Spurs, Glasgow Rangers and a couple of clubs in Europe I believe
