Milner????
« on: May 19, 2014, 03:45:21 AM »
There is paper talk of Milner wanting to leave Man City and as usual we get linked to everyone. I hope we don't buy anyone before we have a manager, that would not be a good move for me.

But if we did have a new manager in place, is Milner the kind of player we want to be linked to. He keeps being picked for England but I don't really rate him that highly, not exactly the flair and creative player we need on the wing IMO. But there must be more to his game and if we played a different system, maybe it could work.

We seem to insist on playing 442 at WHL but I do wonder why that is? It isn't like the players were born and bred at Spurs and have never played in or been successful using other systems. But time again managers have tried different tactics and end up coming back to 442 or 4411.
Maybe next year...

     Dimexi,
AVB insisted on playing 4-4-1-1, and with the players that he was using, it very clearly did not work, personally I prefer 4-4-2, with the players that we have in our squad at present, it allows us to play a far more attacking brand of football, and correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Harry favour that formation when he was at Spurs, and as we all know, that was an exciting brand of flowing and attacking football. I realise that he didn't always use it, obviously injuries and Team tactics didn't allow it, occasionally he would employ 4-3-3, but I think 4-4-2 was his preference.
In answer to your original post re: Milner??, I think we have more than enough mid-field players, surely to Christ our priority must be to strengthen the positions where we clearly are at our weakest, and that is in defence.

I would rather we concentrate on what we need, rather than another average midfielder.

A solid back four, and a top striker for me

I have no idea what a DDOS attack is but it sounds a bit like a girl with large breasts attacking us? Is there any video of the attack as i would like to watch that one day?

I don't think it was plying 4-4-1-1 that was the problem for AVB. The problem was in the type of players we had, and the style and the speed of play he insisted on.

Don't get me wrong I just want us to play attacking attractive football which strikes fear into the opponents and doesn't defend like a bunch of headless chickens. 4-4-2 has always been preferred as I like to see 2 strikers and 2 proper wingers. But that doesn't mean there isn't a better way to play with the players we have, or that another manager couldn't successfully change our traditional approach if it still achieved the results with football that was good to watch.

Which is why Milner would be a bad choice for me, because I don't see him as being a player that would enhance our current style of play, or make us more attacking. Nor do I believe that the next manager would think that his position is a key area that we need to address. You are spot on there, we need to concentrate on our weakest areas first. wide midfield is not the place to rebuild a team from unless it is with a player like Ronaldo, Bale or Robben.

Maybe next year...
