I don't understand all the hate for Levy and Harry after this window. I think Pav and Bassong had their head down, and needed a change of scenery. We've replaced them with veterans (Saha, Nelsen) who we are only obligated to until this summer, and will understand their role as squad members to spell the current starting XI. I think letting Corluka go was risky, as it leaves Walker our only dedicated RB, but Kaboul can cover, and heck, Livermore has done a decent job when he's played there.
I think Levy is trying to get to this summer with a CL spot (and with some luck, a PL title!) and then re-assess. We'll know whether Ade becoming permanent is an option, or if he dogs it during the remainder of the season, we'll be able to let him go back to City and be able to target another big striker.
In my view, Levy is trying to accomplish 2 things at present. First, he really wants to push on and build a squad that can challenge for the Prem title and the CL in the next 3-4 years. That means replacing some of the younger fringe players with veterans who understand their role and won't complain about not starting every game. Hence Bassong, Corluka and Pavs leaving. Nelsen and Saha in. I think Levy realizes that because we can't compete with City, Chelsea, etc on wages, if we want to hold onto our top talent (Bale, Mods) that we need to be really competitive for the next couple of years until the FIFA Fair Play $$$ rules come into full effect, and which point most other big clubs will need to change how they operate. We won't.
Simultaneously, I think he's trying to assemble a lot of young talent (18-22) to push the current squad over the next few years, be contributors, and potentially replace them. Those that don't quite make it can be sold for a profit. I would say that most of these guys are where Bale/Lennon were a few years ago. Good enough to play, but clearly have lots more to learn. Players that fall into that age range/stage of development: Walker, Caulker, Rose, GDS, Livermore, Sandro, Falque, Lancaster, Kane, Carroll. Those are 10 players who are all 22 or younger. Some are already starters or squad members, others are out on loan.
