Dawson - really ??
« on: August 30, 2011, 07:17:22 PM »
I likes Dawson but its always been a case of my heart ruling my head, and the recent games have really brought everything back in focus.

he's a great player to attack the ball in the air, but equally a huge liability with the ball played around him on the ground, as Aguero, Welbeck amply demonstrated last 2 games. This has always been the case and the bloke has made some calamities regularly (apart from 2yrs ago) that seem to be returning again.

if as seems Cahill joines and playes next to our (current) capt. Dawson, I seriously worry about a collective lack of pace in the centre of defense - can you imagine what the speedsters will do against us when we push up the backline in games?

if Cahill does come, I can see him being complemented by players adding to any pairings skillset eg. the pacy, powerful Kaboul (who I think is well under-rated as a CB). and we still have King & Gallas that could add some pace to any pairing with either Dawson or Cahill.

agree or disagree ?

I agree that Dawson is weak on the floor but Kaboul was rubbish for most of the game against United and City. Every now and again he makes a couple of great tackles and we think he's the answer but you look at a lot of our goals against and they boil down to Kaboul being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I bet we see Woodgate playing 20 games for Stoke, all blinders!

if you saw the game at Utd, you'd have noticed that Kaboul was singled out regularly for the 1st 60mins as being the best Spurs player on the pitch.

the final 30mins collapse was due mainly to the centre-midfield running out of legs when Hudd came on and VdV dropped into centre-mid - possibly the most unathletic, slow centre-mid pairing in the Prem. From there Utd just had so much space due to fitter players and slick passing.

against City, Kaboul was having to constantly cover alot of space due to Corluka and Dawson being constantly outmanuevered on the rightside of defence AND the centre-mid pairing of Kranjcar-Modric providing no cover defensively whatsoever in front of the centre-backs.

also, wrong place wrong time has really applied far more to Dawson recently than Kaboul.

Cahill-Kaboul pairing will bed down soon enough now IMO, and the captaincy will go to Parker

He is a great player - but only when he is playing with a better player! King? Gallas?
