Crash in Yaroslavl
« on: September 08, 2011, 07:10:31 AM »
The whole Yaroslavl Lokomotiv ice-hockey team perished in a plane-crash near Yaroslavl, Russia. Among the dead were many players who had played in NHL as well as for their national teams. Such a sad and tragic loss.

Yaroslavl were the runners-up of the last KHL season.

This is a huge loss to so many - obviously to the family and friends of those who died, the city of Yaroslavl', and the ice hockey world in general. RIP Lokomotiv.

One of the players who died, Pavol Demitra, was a top NHL player who won the league's sportsmanship award in 2000, and his last two seasons in the NHL were with the team I support, the Vancouver Canucks (I'm from that area). It's just surreal what has happened in this off season in hockey though - four suicides (at least one of which was accidental) and now this.
