Spurs Suffer Huddlestone Blow

Tottenham's aspiration to win the Uefa Cup and secure European football for next season has been hampered somewhat with news of injury to Tom Huddlestone.

The former Derby schemer picked up a knee injury in Spurs' defeat of Reading on Sunday, having come on as a second half substitute.

Although Huddlestone has been usurped in Martin Jol's first-team of late by the return of Jermaine Jenas from injury, the talented 20-year-old is seen as an important player at White Hart Lane.

This season has seen Huddlestone establish himself as a classy influence in the club's engine room and his Dutch taskmaster admits it is a blow to be without a player ahead of schedule in his development.

"He has injured his knee and could be out for three or more weeks and that is a blow," said Jol to the club's official website.

News of Huddlestone's injury has, though, been softened considerably by the progress Ledley King is making from a long-term problem and with his captain not far from a return, Jol is looking forward to the rest of the campaign with renewed optimism.

"Our confidence is there and some of that comes with not having too many disappointments on the injury front," he added.

"Sometimes in football when you play so many games players can be lost to you in a split second, like on Sunday with Tom Huddlestone.

"He is an important player for us and has played a lot of matches, although not so many lately because I feel we have been doing okay with our midfield balance.

"The positive news is that Ledley is doing well and could be back soon, Anthony Gardner is progressing quicker than expected, Hossam Ghaly is back after illness and Teemu Tainio trained fully with the squad on Monday. Mido is also fit and training well."

Damn. This is a blow, esp as we have quite a lot of important games coming up and need all the players fit.

This is a blow, however we do have many players to fill his position..

Murphy, Jenas, Zokora, & Malbranque can all play extremely well in the Centre.. :)

Murphy is injured, and also useless.

Murphy isn't brilliant, but I wouldn't quite tag him as useless.
And ahh okay didn't know he was injured.

That is a blow - we need as many players fit as possible at the moment with the ridiculous schedule of games.

i think the thudd should be in our starting line up, i didn't think jenas's work rate was up to scratch yesterday, and if huddlestone weren't injured i would have definatley wanted him to come on.

he has the ability to change the game with his killer balls. :aaaa ;):

I agree with you mate. It would of been good if Huddlestone could of been available for the game against Sevilla, having him on providing just a bit more creativity might of just edged us to get the equaliser late in the game..

But sadly, the bast4rd's injured! lol.

Yeah agree with you COYS, I'd prefer Hudds in centre mid than Jenas.I've never rated Jenas personally.

big shame. he is very good at putting his foot on the ball and spraying it around we have no one else who can do theat having lost mendes and carrick

and of course he can play centre half as well, which is vital while ledders is still taking a breather
