we signed him from Glenavon in Northern Ireland

He left us for Stoke, then on to St Johnstone, now he is player/assistant manager back at Glenavon

Gerard wasn't it? Saw him play for us when we were made to enter the Intertoto during the mid 90s. We played a reserve team and lost a couple of games at the old Goldstone ground in Brighton. He looked a class above the rest, and I had high hopes for him ... sigh.
