I have just arrived home.
We were in complete control throughout that much never really having to get out of first gear. Reading are a good, hardworking, organized side but just lack the quality that we possess. We should have scored 4-5 to be honest as we had the chances to. Jermain, Robbie, Dimi and Steed all should have buried their chances to make the scoreline look slightly better for us. As it is it looks like it was a tight game when in fact it was nothing of the sort. Reading had the odd shot, hitting the post at one stage, and I applaud them for coming to WHL to play for football rather than just hit us on the break. However they were simply not good enough to cope with our superior ability. I may sound very arrogant and biased but in my honest opinion it is just fact. You look at both teams on paper and then on the pitch and you can see who are the established European club.
It is quite funny that a game with so may clear cut chances was decided by a penalty. From where I was sitting there was no doubt about it, even though the Reading players and supporters were being pricks about it. Many have said it was harsh but we deserved it. The amount of non penalties that have been given against us this season is unbelievable. Ars*nal(twice) and Man U spring to mind. In both cases they contributed greatly to us losing the game. The old saying "It evens itself out" comes to mind when I think about it.
We can take many positives from todays game. Firstly
WE GOT A ****ING CLEAN SHEET. The first one for 20 premiership games since we played Watford in October. That is run that has gone on far to long. At least it is over now and we can build on it. Robbo has his third clean sheet in 8 days which is a bonus for him. Secondly the amount of chances that we created. Without having to push on to much we created a hatfull of clear cut chances that on another day would have been buried. The team is starting to find its feet again.
Thirdly that was another 3 points in the bag and 5 leagues wins in a row. As the buisness end of the premiership season gets ever closer we are really hitting some sort of form. It has come at the right time for us and long may it continue. We are 2 points behind Bolton in 5th and 7 behind Ars*nal in 4th. You never know, the way the two teams are playing there is an outside possibility of claiming it.
When we beat them at the Lane in 3 weeks time people may sit up and start taking note.
Finally everyone of our players is starting to show why they are playing for such an illustrious football club and not the Reading's of this world. Chimbonda, Dawson, Robbo, Azza, JJ, Zokora all gave cracking performances today. Even ol' Yippy is playing excellently at the moment. Zokora was outstanding again today. He had a slow start to his Tottenham career, with the diving row etc., but in recent weeks has really found his feet and is playing out his skin.
In our past 18 games there have been 73 goals, average over 4.2 goals a game. We are entertaining everyone and winning at the same time.
Unfortunately I do have a few concerns. We created so many chances but only scored one and that was a spotkick. That is a slight worry for me. We should really have wrapped the game up long before the final whistle. How JD missed at the end is beyond me. I could have scored that and I'm a keeper, maybe Robbo should give him a lesson or two in the art of finishing.
Secondly is Rocha. I admit he is far better than Davenport will ever be but he does have the tendency to make the odd mistake. He showed it against Ars*nal and again today. He dwindled on the ball for far to long. Lets hope this does not happen to often.
This was the biggest week of our season so far. It has got off to a flyer but thursday is even more crucial. We have the Sevillains
away, don't know why I am telling you this as you're not retarded and already know it. I am not going back to delete it but just keep on typing. Anyway, this away leg could be the all important one. A draw will set us up for a classic European night at the lane. Been a very long time since our fans expereinced one of those so lets hope it happens on thursday week.
Do not expect anything other than a Spurs defeat next saturday. We will play a second string side away at Chelsea. That is a game that does not concern us too much to be honest.
The period I spoke about a few weeks ago is now in full flow. We are starting to get to those crucial matches that will determine whether our season is defined as success or not. Luckily we are in top form and raring to go. The player know what's on the line and will give their all for this fine football club. It is a great time to be a Spurs fan. Great win today, We are on the up. Tottenham is a place to be at the present time. UP THE SPURS
