Raul would be a massive signing but i dont see it happening and his wage demands would be stupidly high! Although there were reports of Harry sniffing around him a while back. What about Martin Petrov? We were going to snap him up in January but we backed out and he is a quality player especially good deal if we get him on a free but could we do better? I think so.

Petrov does add attacking threat, he scored 4 goals and got 3 assists in 16 for Man C last season, but I think we need to get players that are an improvement on our current playing squad not just adding more depth,
cant see us getting Raul, really would like to see him come, proven CL player, we have a slight chance of getting Cole, seems likely he will leave Chelsea, soccernet reports confirm it that Chelsea wont be negotiating with him any further and they have also signed Yossi Benyaoun.

City are releasing Benjani and Sylvinho also neither have really impressed and both a bit old for second string players.
Intersting to see if City offload Robinho, really think he will come good again, hard player to manage apparently a bit like Anelka, has a record of falling out, or not settling in at a club, I predict whoever keeps him happy will see a great return from him, another negative is his inflated price tag.

FREEBIES Re: Top Available Free Transfers Raul, Boyd
« Reply #7 on: July 07, 2010, 09:26:14 AM »

Ive said it before but Kris Boyd is a good free transfer, (Boyd stat's below) he has moved to Borough, great freebie. Do we even put in an offer or enquiry for decent players anymore, Raul also? Or are we just concentrating on Joe Cole and Forlan, Forlan who we will never get, so much for Harry saying he wanted to play for spurs, having a laugh tho apparently, so far we are a laughing stock in this window. Surely our target list would have been sorted just after season end and now the world cup is getting closer to its curtain allot of potential players have been on show, and Harry has been watching with BBC, am I being impatient? We have  the rest of july and august to improve our squad. We have a chance for Cole, the only other ones that seem to have a chance are Gudjohnsen, and Baptista, who wouldn't be anyones first choices........

I have resevations about anyone who has a good record in the Scottish League, yes i agree his stats are very good and he has scored a lot of goals.
When buying a player i feel you have to look at the whole situation for example the team he plays for and who he is playing against, okay Rangers are a good side, but the sides they are facing bar Celtic aren't.
Domestic Scottish Football is renowned for being a 2 horse race for decades with Rangers and Celtic finishing 1st and 2nd 99% of the time. So what im trying to say is, the defences Kris Boyd face aren't up to a standard anywhere near the Premiership defences, so goals will be a lot easier to come by up over the border.

So for me Kirs Boyd would be a NO, regardles of him being a potential free transfer.

Boyd doesn’t have a good record in SPL, he has the best record in scotland, he is the all time top scorer of SPL with 164 goals, better than Henrik Larsson at 2nd, and was top scorer 5 seasons out of 5 seasons with Rangers.
I do agree the SPL is not of the greatest standard, ranked 16th in Europe by UEFA, but coming from SPL to England you can be successful, no transfers are guaranteed successes, even world class players aren’t guaranteed to be a hit, Forlan is a prime example.
The reservations are also understandable, regardless some players are worth a punt and I believe he will be successful for Borough in the championship, and should be among the top scorers, the championship might be similar level to SPL.

The reason why I included Boyd in the post was to provoke thought of different options, currently the only likely striker to come to the lane is Eidur Gudjohnsen, who managed a duck last season for Monaco in 9 games, and one in 11 for us, 8 were subs admiitedly, but he had enough chances, super Pav showed it can be done from the bench.   My point was surely there are better options out there that can be explored, on the free transfers I mentioned Raul, who would be a great addition.
Unfortunately we are not going to get players like Suarez, Forlan, Dzeko and Fabiano, I would even be surprised if we got Cavani, who is looking less and less attractive as a striker option, as these players do not want to play for Tottenham. Suarez only wants to “go to an elite club, such as Man Utd, or Barcelona”, and don’t shoot the messenger I’m quoting the player. Forlan wants to stay put, Fabiano is only a big club player linked with Milan and Man U, and Cavani said he would rather stay in Italy, and Dzeko will cost around 40m.

Other potential striker targets

Raul free transfer

Huntelaar 15m, also reportedly does not want to play for us, and wants to fight for his position at Milan, but if they get Fabiano, that may influence his decision, as it may reduce his playing time.

Mario Balotelli a little expensive but at 21, could be a world class talent, valuation of him is a little skewed, around 20-30m.

Asamoah Gyan 7m

Oscar Cardozo 20m target of Everton.

I would be happy with Asamoah Gyan to add to the squad. I think hes a player that harry would work well with.

you can see he has alot of potential, but is just lacking something... he's decision making is poor at times.

he needs someone to take him under there wing

Asamoah Gyan is not a bad shout, although i agree with Biggs, he does seem to be missing "something" in his game. For £7 million there is defo potential there...

Kris Boyd is garbage and thankfully never in the running for Spurs and has indeed signed to Boro.

Give him his due his goalscoring record was brilliant at Kilmarnock so its not all down to playing for R**gers. However his CL performances/goals (think he once scored) were a joke and he very rarely played Old Firm games as he always went missing.

Guyan looked like he had everything to succeed in EPL with pace power and goal scoring knack but there has been many a World Cup turkey bought in the past.

I think Joe Cole is a magic player and as a Scotman i was pleased Capello never really seemed to understand that.
