JD falls on hard times!
« on: May 10, 2010, 08:16:47 PM »
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has admitted he has been disappointed with England striker Jermain Defoe's recent performances.
Spurs ended their Premier League campaign with a 4-2 defeat at Burnley on Sunday and Defoe was once again subsituted as his troubles in front of goal continued.
The 27-year-old has scored just twice in his last 13 outings and Redknapp has expressed concerns about his form.
"I wanted more from him than what he was giving," said Redknapp. "His form's not been so good lately so I've taken him off when he's not played well. It's private between me and him how he's playing."

To be fair Harry has a point there. Defoe has beeen well off form since Febuary. Before that he was the man in form, it seems now the wheels have fallen off, 2 goals in 13 games (1 was a penalty)

Why has this happened?
Has Defoe burnt out over the long season?
Will/should Capello pick JD for SA?

Defoe's recent performances have been somewhat subdued, but I think Capello will still pick him for SA as we haven't the class upfront (bar Rooney) that we have in other area's.     JD started the season on fire after working hard in training on building up his upper body strength in order for him to hold the ball up better. This hard worked paid off for the most part. I feel his problem of late seems to be that Defoe has maybe run out of steam.    He'll be back next year I'm sure!
