I didnt ask why and TBH length of service has sweet FA to do with a player being club captain!

For me what has shone through and is also likely to be apparent to AVB and may influence his selection of Dawson is his leadership qualities lead by example, never give up, loyal to the club, the cause, fully committed and reliable.

Yes there are better players technically in the team/squad even at CB such as JVT and Kaboul (barring injuries) but they lack those extra qualities that Dawson brings to the field he is a true THFC player through and through and that is a great example to others and his passion for the club also!

Thats my opinion why he is captain!
When you think of famous captains, more than often they have not been the best and most famous players at their club. Think of Roy Keane for example.

Yes, I good point.
I’ve lived a life that’s full. I’ve travelled each and every highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

I think most of us are in agreement that Dawson is doing a grand job as club captain.

How about I thrown this one into the fold to try and get a few view points going, lets say terrible senario Dawson gets injured, who would be the obvious replacement to captain the team on the pitch and why?

I would punt for Lloris, our solid team foundation block! he is ever calm, inspires confidence, experience of captaining a team at the highest international level.

THFC "COYS" and that is all I have to say about that!

I like captains to be on-field player, so, I'd go for Vertonghen (who seems to be our vice captain anyway). Kaboul is unfortunately not present enough to be considered at the moment.

I think JVT is the obvious replacement, but if you want someone from left field, who I wouldn't have even considered until recently. Sigurdsson. He has been our most improved player this year. (not including Townsend as he wasn't playing at our club last year)
Maybe next year...

Dimexi, very much agree with how much Siggy has improved almost a different player for the better compared to last season, what makes you believe he would make a decent captain though?

I did say it was from left field. So I guess, I kind of like his attitude, any player who is able to live with criticism and come back stronger suggests belief in himself. That kind of self worth cannot be manufactured.  He does his talking on the pitch and although not a shouter, I think he would rise to the role if he was given it. Sometimes a Captain can be the person who can give a quiet bollocking in someone's ear, or piece of encouragement and it can have a greater effect than the man shouting in the middle of the park. It may look good to the fans, but does not mean it has more value. He also has a similar demeanor to AVB and may translate that to the pitch. Different strokes for different folks.

However, if I had to choose, I would still pip for JVT as my number 2, he just has all the qualities you need and like Riff, I prefer the Captain to be an outfield player. lloris will always be a captain of sorts for his area.
Maybe next year...

Sigurdsson I agree with.

Anyone still think Dawson is this great CB and club captain ? Not wishing to knock him, but he really showed against City that he simply is not good enough at the top level. Sorry Michael, but the truth should not hurt.

Jesus f**king Christ, the lad has one bad game and now he's suddenly "not good enough". No bloody wonder Spurs fans are considered to be fickle.

One bad game ! really ! Turned inside out by mighty West Ham, who scored 1/3 of their seasons tally against us.
I am sorry, he gets turned and caught out in the air also on a regular basis.

I would merely repeat my words above, only add Liverpool to the list. His only saving grace is that he is being asked to play a role that he is not capable of, a high line. He still is too slow, and gets done in the air all the time.
