I’ve just finished reading Alan Mullery’s autobiography. Funny at times, but also sad. He tells us his downs when he thought about committing suicide. Mullery played for Fulham, Spurs and then Fulham again (ending his career with them). An England international he was the first man ever to be sent off for England. He won European trophies, FA Cup trophies and League Cup trophies for Spurs.

Reminiscing his past times with Fulham and Spurs there were some stories that made me burst out laughing. For example:
He tells us many stories about his time at Fulham and Tosh Chamberlain. For instance he was playing in a league game when suddenly he went off the field and sat on the bench and had a cigarette and then went back on the field while his team mates continued playing. Or the time he went to a beautiful fan in the crowd and gave her a kiss. But the funniest story was:
Chamberlain had a dispute with one of his team mates (Seamus Dunne) and then went over to the other wing to keep out of Dunne’s way. “And that’s what he did, switched wings for the rest of the game. Seamus never saw him, nor did anybody else. Tosh never had another kick.
It got so bad Roy Bentley (Manager) had a word with the referee in the second half.
‘Send Chamberlain off, ref’
‘Why, He hasn’t done anything.’
‘Exactly!’ said Roy”

The funny thing was that I was at Spurs on Saturday and I was standing next to Mullery. Unfortunately he was on the phone so I couldn’t talk to him.

I bought a new book that was out at White Hart Lane yesterday; “White Hart Lane; inside the world famous home of the Spurs”.

This is a great book. It tells you the history of the club, trophies, pictures of the ground and behind the scenes. Facts and figures and looks at some of the great players and managers. It talks about the grounds men and who they do the ground and many more backs and figures.

I’ve lived a life that’s full. I’ve travelled each and every highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.
