Martin Chivers didn't regard football as that important. That is why Bill Nicholson kept having a go at him.
Obviously I've never seen Chivers play, but I've read that he used to switch off in matches, but managed to score goals when it really mattered.

I met him in Braga once, he was arrogant and very unfriendly.
That's sad. I've met quite a few footballers, but they've all been friendly. The only ex-Spurs players I've met are Jennings (as I mentioned earlier) and Carr, Doherty and Keane. the latter three I met when they came to Tallinn, back in 2001, to play Estonia in WC2002 qualifier. Young Keane was playing for Leeds back then, but Carr and Doherty were still with Spurs. All three (and actually the whole Irish team and fans) were very friendly. I still have some photos somewhere and some bloke named Neil probably still has my Estonia shirt and I still have his Ireland shirt. s**t, that was nearly 12 years ago...  :P

My top four football books in reverse order are,
4. "The Way it Was" by Stanley Matthews.
3. "Fever Pitch " Yeah I know, wrong team
2. "The Glory Game" by Hunter Davies Far and away the best book ever written in Spurs. And as the 70's team were my boyhood team this book is one of my treasured possessions.
1. The Miracle of Castel di Sangro" by Joe Mc Ginniss. If anyone hasn't read this, do yourself a favour and track down a copy

I was a little disappointed in "In Search of Alan Giltzen".  Starts well but then fades partly because he never really found him
Currently enjoying "Vertigo". Has anyone bought "Glory Glory Nights"? is it worth it?

Worst football book I have ever read would have to be the Garty Linekar bio "Strikingly Different"

I read the Glory Game many years ago. A good book.
I’ve lived a life that’s full. I’ve travelled each and every highway;
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.
