Scott Parker
« on: May 21, 2011, 05:46:37 PM »
What does everyone think of this signing if it happens? We tried to sign Charlie Adam last minute in the last window and if reports in the papers are accurate, we're after Parker.

You would think this is exactly like signing a new striker in that it seems we'd need to sell at least 1 of or midfielders. The difference is that our midfield has been very good. We don't seem to be very good at selling players!

All of potential formations that spring to mind cause a problem somewhere else in the squad. I could see Parker and Sandro playing well in the middle, and that additional cover in the middle allowing Modric to play on the left again. But what about Bale? Or if it's to have Parker behind Modric and Sandro with a lone striker up front what about VDV?

Also, for those of you against signing Parker for age/salary reasons, I'd have to compare it to attempting to sign Beckham. I'd much rather Parker than Beckham!

I don't want Parker or Beckham. I've got this horrible thought of us chasing Parker all summer and wasting time on him before he f**ks off to the Woolwich lot.

But why do you think we're even after a CM? We definitely tried to sign Charlie Adam in the last window. Do you think Redknapp and co genuinely feel that's an area that needs strengthening? It seems it would have to be either that reason or that we're going after players with no strategy just for the sake of signing players.

We do need cover there because Jenas is s**t, but, unless we are going to play 3 in the middle then we shouldn't be going for Parker as Sandro doesn't deserve to be dropped.

I agree about Sandro. Perhaps this is all just paper talk to take focus off of the brilliant striker we've got lined up.  :D

We dont need him. We have probably the best midfield line-up in the league. To take him on, we would have to let a go an already embedded CM player. We need to concentrate on firepower up front and let go a couple of 2nd string MF players - Jenas/Bentley/Palacios to be able to afford capital for a world class striker and his wages - no Wenger salary cap nonesense as look what happened to them!

I'd rather see Parker on the bench than Jenas and Bentley combined. If we let those midfield players go we'll need someone to replace them. The striker situation is an entirely different debate. Someone has to go before someone else comes in.

As I can see three or four midfielders leaving (Bentley, O'Hara, Jenas, Kranjcar) I'd definitely take Parker.

Id take Parker myself too...he's a very good player...strong in the tackle...great engine...scores goals...he would add a bit of steel to the middle of the park for us also.

But who makes way for Parker in CM? Sandro? Hudders? Modric? I agree that Parker is a good MF player, but would rather keep our 3 - he may be ok as cover only IMO. Selling Jenas, Bentley, O'Hara and Palacios will provide funds with spare cash for him as a 2nd string - he is 30 odd now, and we have younger better players that will leave and benefit our oppo if he was taken on as a starter. If Hudders, goes we lose creative flair, good defensive support and one hell of a thunderbolt. Sandro is awesome and strong as defensive cover. Modric is creative and just so special. Cant see where Parker can oust any of those guys.

Is he going to sit on the bench though? I don't think so.

Take a look at Spurs' injury-list and you'll understand that every player gets his chance in our team (unless you're Kranjcar in Redknapp's team, of course).

Another midfielder is the last position that needs adding too
