Caulker to step up
« on: March 09, 2011, 04:55:44 PM »
Bristol City's on-loan defender Steve Caulker has set his sights on playing in the Premier League next season, but not necessarily with parent club Tottenham.

The Spurs youngster has impressed for the Robins this season, making 29 appearances so far at Ashton Gate.
However, with the London outfit boasting a squad of over 25 first-team regulars, the 19-year-old thinks that another loan switch could be on the cards next season.

"That is my aim, to play Premier League football next season, and Tottenham would like me to go out on loan to a fellow top flight side if possible," he told skysports.com.

"It depends whether the right kind of offer comes in and it is a club that is right for me because otherwise I might have to come back down to the Championship again.

"I've still got plenty of years ahead of me and I'm just looking forward to playing as many first-team games as possible, either in the Premier League or the Championship.

"Looking at it from a sensible point of view I can see that they have seven centre-halves already at the club, so I will probably have to go back out on loan to play regularly.

"I'm training back at Spurs on Mondays and Tuesdays, so that Harry can take a look at me and how I've progressed, but it all depends on the rest of this season.

"A few injuries or players sold in the summer can change things, but it all depends on what Harry Redknapp thinks is the best option."

I'm really interested to see how Caulker continues to develop into a mature Centre half. As he says a loan move to maybe a promoted Prem team next season or a good Championship team could really help his development.

Without getting too carried away and the right guidance he could be the natural partner for Kaboul/Dawson at CB in a couple years time... 8)

id love to see another centre half coming through the ranks..
we have always produced good players in that position throughout the years.

the more experience he gets with other teams can only benefit us in the future.

looking forward to his promotion next season.... we are looking very strong defensively for next season: King/Woodgate (counts as only 1 player these days), Kaboul, Gallas, Bassong, Dawson, Khumalo and Caulker.... thats 7 CBs !!...

then we have Walker, Hutton, Corluka for RB.... and BAE only for LB..... we need another LB in the squad this summer methinks..

PS - did you see Gomes tear a strip of that lazy primadonnna Vaarrt yesterday, when the fairy just stood there waiting for the ball thrown to reach his fat toes, insterad of moving his arse to the ball at least a few inches to get to it... then the primadonna walks down the tunnel after rightly being subbed, instead of sitting on the bench supporting the team... anker !!

Ive been to watch Bristol City many times this season when i have not been able to make it to a Spurs game, because they are half hours drive away and i have alot of BCFC supporting mates and honestly not being biased but beside from the return of there star player icky Maynard, Caulker has been immense this season. The Championship is a very tough league but he has come in and done a fantastic job, he is a commanding CB, great tackling ability, calm head and very organised. I can see him doing what Kyle Walker has done and go into a EPL loan after a Championship loan. Hes also scored a couple of vital goals and gets up the pitch well when it is required. One for the future without a doubt, i just hope that Caulker, Walker & Naughton get there fair chance at Spurs. YID ARMY
