I would like to see Carroll join us I think he would be a quality addition and if it costs us Keane, Crouch and Bentley (major wage saving is worth it) then so be it, as pointed out it would be a gamble as is any signing.

Defoe, Pav, Carroll and Dos Santos as our striker options, not bad eh??? thats if Dos Santos ever gets fit and can convert his ability for Mexico to the EPL if not then its bye bye to him too!

I dont think Dos Santos will figure in the future at all....

also Vaart should really be listed as a forward, for all the defensive qualities he has....... so the 4 forwards could well be Defoe, Vaart, Pav and Carroll...

I can see a youngster like Wickham being added to the tail of that... or a cheaper, but possibly better, option like Luc Castaignas..

a quality LB to cover BAE is also essential, as Bale is really for the LM slot from now on..

Very unlikely to get a swap deal involving 4 players and no money. Newcastle will want some cash, no less than 10m.

The talk in the papers was around 20m plus a pleyer. 20m for me is far to much for Carroll.

if we are willing to spend that kind of money in January, then Fabiano is a real possibility.

Sevilla losing 5 games in a row, Fabiano not playing as regular as he likes, has a bad relationship with the president and clearly isn't Happy at Sevilla.

If we are willing to spend 20m on a striker, then Fabiano is the one for me

LOL, don't let GK wind you up. He doesn't know how to talk about football without resorting to winding people up.

I clicked show me the post on this one just to see if there was anything behind this one because I'd actually like to see us go for Carroll. I do think Carroll is a talented player and I think he has earned all the praise he's receiving. He can't control if certain people go overboard and start saying he's the new Shearer and all that. But he can score goals with his head and with his feet. He is strong and can hold the ball up for other players.

I don't think those attributes necessarily make him the missing link in our attack though. He's a good player though and I think I might even agree with the troll to a certain extent. If we were to sell Bentley and Keane and get Carroll out if it, I think that would be good business. I don't think he's the striker that has the attributes we need and have been missing, but he's a good player and if it doesn't work out he's an English striker with promise who wouldn't be hard to move on for profit. That seems to be the way Levy likes to handle things. I think that's quite a bit of what if and speculation though. How often do you see multiple players traded in this manner? It happens, but not often.

I cannot see Magpies selling their star striker in January and I also cannot see them swapping Carroll for David "Not-getting-any-games" Bentley or Robbie "Got-back-from-Liverpool-and then-faded-badly" Keane.

I think we're more in need of a machine that combines Crouch, Defoe and Pavlyuchenko. Have they come out with that yet?

I havent read the stories in the rags relating to this, if 20mill is the figure plus a player for Carroll that is a bit much.  He is still pretty unproven but shows potential.... we tend to sign alot of players like that.

If we are looking to shell out 20mill lets get the proven Fab and soften the blow by shipping out Bentley, Keane and Crouch as that will lighten the wage bill and bring in a few quid.

If Carroll can be secured for a decent deal then why not I think he would do well for us also.

A 4 player swap wouldnt happen its just not the footi way of business but we can dream lol

Mike Ashley will sell Carroll if he gets the right offer full stop, Newcastle has cost him alot of money and he's not bothered about the club. He will do anything to recoup his losses and has proved he's not afraid to make an unpopular deal ie shipping Houghton out.... this story may have more legs than you think !!!!

I agree that a p/x involving 4 players in 1 deal is very unlikely....

however, I do think that Keano and Bentley can be sold to generate more than 10m.... and that Newky can see that Crouch can replace Carroll fairly seamlessly in their lineup.... I would expect 10m on top of Crouch for Carroll...

it really doesnt matter if Keane is incl. in the deal, as he seems desirable to Fulham, Villa, Wolves and 1-2 others, who will value his experience in their young and/or inexperienced teams...Bentley too is interesting the likes of Brum and even Pool.....

add to that Dos Santos almost certainly going to Genoa and maybe even O'Lloyd going to Wet Spam, and we will have some serious moolah to dole out on transfers...

I'm now of the opinion that Fabiano is not good for Spurs.... he seems past his best and very disinterested in the game, even tho he should be showing keeness to fight for his place.... also he would still cost alot with wages to match.... with no resale value (unlike Carroll)...

I think that's due to the fact that he is not happy at Seville plus there current form.

The only worry i would have about Fabiano is adjusting to our climate, Brazillians never seem to do well over here

I dont like to stereotype an entire nationality with the 'Brazilians never sseem to do well here' thing.... theres not been enough here to conclude that, and there have been enough successes to disprove that already eg. Denilson, Gomes, Edu, Alex, Juninho, even Mirandinha (tho he played for a lesser club)...

theres plenty of Brazilians plying their trade well in colder climates than ours eg. in Russia, Germany...

but in Fabiano's case, he has stated a dislike for N.European climates and his ordinary spel at Rennes when he was in his physical prime suggests this to be true.... with the more severe winters now experienced here do you really want a now older, less motivated Fabiano playing for Spurs on a cold Monday night at Wigan, or even Blackpool ??

not for 20m transfer fee (with no resale value) and another 15m on top in wages....

As much as i suggested this a while ago i still dont see it happening. I think he is a much better all round player than Crouch in that he can give you the same outlet but can also take the ball for a run and his hold up play is much better, he can also shoot and that helps!

I can see Spurs trying to wheel and deal but in the end i dont see Carroll wanting to leave yet or Ashley cashing in at this time.

I predict next to nothing happens in January other than us trying to offload 2-3 fringe players and get the wage bill down.

Carroll per se isnt what we actually want.... but he serves as a way to offload redundant and high-waged stock AND get a very marketable asset for the future in return...

 HILARIOUS

let me put you in a quote here of what you said on the 12 december.

"Carroll is waaaaay over-rated on account of being a Geordie playing for Newky and also by being Ingerlish...little pace, little technique, over-agressive, very poor movement off the ball, good in the air.... we have Crouch who is better..Cameron Jerome please."

So you want him in now, but then say, he is really not what we want?..make up your mind!

One for the future?...what happens if he comes to WHL and flops...just like many a player  has done in the past!

What do we do with him then....let him waste away on the bench like Keane and Bentley.

How many players do you want us to sign Gareth?

Lets have a look at who you want.

Cameron Jerome
Vedad Ibišević
Scott Parker
Craig Bellamy
Matt Kandji
Luis Fabiano
Jay Bothroyd
Vincenzo Iaquinta
Romelu Lukaku
Alexandre Lacazette
Marko Arnautović
Connor Wickham
Glen Johnson
Steven Pienaar
Wayne Bridge
Edinson Cavani
Pavel Pogrebniak
Karim Benzema
Stewart Downing
Diego Capel

Put Jenas in goals and you would have a great squad there Martin Keown.

Jesus you come out with some rubbish....is that what all Ars*nal fans are like?

I missed this post, brilliant Derry. I have no idea what he replied to you but i bet he never addressed any of the points you made, probably just continued to dribble down his chin onto his laptop.

thankfully, Carroll isnt our only striking option.... I think Iaquinta is an excellent alternative (1 of a few) and has the physical atrtibutes we need upfronyt, plus good European pedigree at CL and intl. level.... good value at 5m approx...

we will finally offload Keano, Bentley, Dos Santos and possibly Kranjcar, Crouch too.... generating quite abit...

a backup CB, backup LB and a talented but unproven young striker with pace, at a good price, will also come in... at little cost overall..
