I think we would struggle defensively with VdV in a 4-man midfield. I think the same is true for Modric, at least against top teams. I can see this working best as a 5-man midfield (Modric/Hudd/Palacios or Sandro/VdV/Lennon), with Bale at left back, and a lone striker.

but we dont have a forward that can play well as a lone striker (where you need abit of everything).... our strikers are more specialists eg. Crouch in the air, Defoe as a poacher... this would be my 1st-choice front 6:-

Lennon................THudd................Palacios..............Bale

...........................Pav...................vdV


Defoe could also play where vdv is, and vdv can go to LM, with Bale as LB.... also Crouch can alternate for Pav...

Modric would be a substitute.... to play when THudd can't..
