Seemed a good run out for the boys and we are starting to look a lot sharper attacking down the flanks. Would love to see some top name danger man up front but i am starting to get the feeling we will just go with what we have.

Hard to say mate there where alot of players used... off the top of my head

Gomes, Cudicini, Corluka, dawson, naughton, bale, jenas, hudds, kranjac, lennon, gio, crouch, rose, defoe...

i have probably missed a few.

Loads of newbies joining the boards! Good stuff. I missed the game tonight, heard Gio had a great game, strong side out there by the looks of things, how was Jenas, Corluka and Walker? All have looked unstable and error prone in pre season so far?

Much improved performance, and one that fills me with a little more confidence as this pre-season has depressed me somewhat to this point.

Played a 4231/433/451 whatever you want to call it. Gio played behind Crouchie and was superb. Worked extremely hard defensively, as well as being very dangerous going forward. His assist for the Bale goal was a lovely little backheel and it finally seems he is knuckling down after his impressive WC. Wouldn't be surprised to see him start in the same role in the CL qualifier.

Gomes made some good saves in the first half, Bale was superb as always, Walker and Naughton both looked lively, Jenas had a surprisingly good game and Modric was tidy.

Only concern for me was Lennon who at the back end of last season, through the WC to this pre-season looks a shadow of his former self. To be fair he was up against that very good Portugese left back, Contreau (sp?) but he was very poor in my eyes.

Apart from that a very good performance against a very talented Benfica side, gives a good run out against CL opposition ahead of the qualifiers. Harry wasn't even at the game, hopefully tying up a big money striker! COYS.
