Title: The WTF Files 2.0
Post by: DC76 on April 01, 2010, 01:18:32 AM
Got any silly, scary, or stupid news to spew about footballers? Well, this isn't a gossip thread per se, more a "Destroyed In Seconds" meets "World's Funniest Stuff" kinda thread.

If you recall, the last thread, which was lost, had Milan Baroš being busted for literally doing twice the speed limit in France - in a 130 km/h zone :o

But let's kick this one off with some Maradona oddities:

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina - Argentina coach Diego Maradona underwent minor facial surgery on Tuesday after he was bitten by one of his pet dogs.

The Argentine television station TN said the 49-year Maradona had reconstructive surgery to repair an injury to his upper lip after he was bitten. He was expected to be discharged later Tuesday.

Official news agency Telam reported Maradona was in good condition, citing associates of the coach.

Argentine news reports said Maradona was playing with his Shar Pei when it bit him at his home on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.

Shar Pei are often used as a guard dog, though they are known to adjust well to family situations.

Maradona, who led Argentina to the 1986 World Cup, will coach the Gauchos in the World Cup in South Africa. The team plays Canada on May 24 in Buenos Aries before leaving for its training headquarters in South Africa.

Seriously, WTF???

This makes what Sol Campbell puts up with from us seem like child's play, really. When verbal heckling turns to physical abuse, that's not a good thing. ::)

And another addition to the WTF Files, this time from Colombia:

http://sports.yahoo.com/soccer/news?slug=reu-latamcolombiaowl (http://sports.yahoo.com/soccer/news?slug=reu-latamcolombiaowl)

Quote
BOGOTA, Feb 28 (Reuters) - A player has caused an uproar and faces severe sanctions for kicking an owl which was lying prostrate on the pitch during a Colombian championship match at the weekend.
Video footage showed that the bird was first struck by the ball near the Pereira penalty area during the match at Atletico Junior, prompting the referee to stop play.
As the referee and players discussed what to do, Pereira defender Luis Moreno—apparently impatient over the delay with his team losing 2-1—was seen to kick the bird towards the touch-line with his left foot.
“The player should be severely punished for this painful, horrible act of intolerance,” Ramon Jesurum, president of the Colombian league (Dimayor), said in a radio interview.
He added the case would go before the Dimayor’s disciplinary committee.
Atletico Junior fans chanted “murderer” at the Panamanian player, according to Colombian media. He was also reprimanded by opponents and apologised after the game.
“I apologise to the fans, it wasn’t my intention,” he said as he left the field escorted by radio reporters and police.
Colombian media said the owl, rescued by ground staff, was taken to a vet where it’s condition was serious.

Indeed. But the guy kicking the owl got a two-match ban. That said, was that really enough? Apparently the fans were quite agitated about this sort of thing. Perhaps more should've been given.

EDIT: now to a more funny WTF :P

http://www.izleyin.gen.tr/izle/123268144400436/en-guzel-penalti-golu-the-best-penalty-kick-ever (http://www.izleyin.gen.tr/izle/123268144400436/en-guzel-penalti-golu-the-best-penalty-kick-ever)

Title: Re: The WTF Files 2.0
Post by: DC76 on March 04, 2011, 03:46:32 AM
I suppose that in itself makes this a double WTF :o

But here's the tl;dr for anyone who doesn't want FB crap all over the place.

Some Turkish goalkeeper sees a penalty go off the crossbar and he's all like "Yeah, yeah, who da man, we won!" Only to see the ball come back down and bounce over the goalline, prompting the scoring team to start celebrating. I've been told it wouldn't've counted in a penalty shootout, but I'm not sure if this was in a shootout per se.

I cringe every time I see anything to do with either. That said, you are right in pointing out that there's probably a double standard here, at least as far as the media goes.

I wonder if UEFA would have done anything about it had it been overt Stalinist/Communist propaganda. (Of course if anything were done about it, the Serbians would get miffed about it because of Red Star Beograd, who by the way are muppets. :P )

*HEADDESK* WTF... I knew he was starting to get that reputation with Spurs, but obviously playing with C. Ronaldo has made him at least twice as bad. ???

Yes, there's a BBV Liga topic open to all for that type of talk.  :)

I was going to say you can refer him as Monkey Boy, but there are a few PC People around. ;) :-\ :hide:

And a not-so-funny WTF from Italy:

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/25944464 (http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/25944464)

A summary: some of ASG Nocerina's ultras threatened players with death, so Nocerina's players basically threw a match in November. Now they stand as the only team to actually be relegated from the Lega Pro Prima this season, since the two Lega Pro divisions are merging into one for next season.
