ATTENTION HARRY Raul in talks with Schalke
« on: July 05, 2010, 10:39:13 AM »

Schalke another CL team after finishing 2nd last year in the Bundelsiga, is in talks with Raul.
I really hope Tottenham are monitoring this one if not someone please tell them, at even at 33 he still is a quality striker, with a wealth of experience, importantly CL experience.

Article below

Schalke boss Felix Magath has confirmed the club is in talks with Real Madrid legend Raul.

Raul looks set to leave Real Madrid this summer
Raul, 33, has one year remaining on his contract at Madrid but looks certain to leave the club this summer, and AS claimed a move to Schalke was imminent.

Magath has now said he is hopeful of completing a deal but it appears the forward wants to delay any decision on his future for several weeks.

"We are interested in him and are negotiating with his agent," Magath told Bild. "The player has not decided yet and wants time, until the end of July, to make up his mind. It would be a huge signing for Schalke and the whole Bundesliga."

Germany defender Christoph Metzelder, who left Real Madrid for Schalke on a free transfer this summer, has encouraged Raul to make the move. "We have Christoph's friendship with Raul to thank for the chance of us signing such a player," Magath said.

I heard he was offered to us, and several other EPL clubs and none were interested. I would imagine he's looking for a big pay day before heading of into the sunset.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly lining up a shock move for Real Madrid Raul. Raul, Spain's all-time top scorer with 44 goals  from 102 caps, he has three Champions League winners' medals sitting in his trophy cabinet.

In 16 years at Madrdid, Raúl has won the Primera División six times and is a three-time winner of the UEFA Champions League, having scored in the 2000 and 2002 finals. He has also long been the competition's all-time leading goal scorer. Since 1996, he has totalled 126 Champions League matches, netting a remarkable 66 goals. Furthermore Raúl is the all-time top goalscorer for the Spanish national side, with 44 goals in 102 appearances.

Raul has had a long career at Madrid on  more than 100k a year, he’s a wealthy man, he is not ready to retire and is looking  to go out on a high, I have no worries about this one, great move. Free transfer maybe a one year deal  with 1 yr option, we could offer him a contract with allot of bonuses, and  reduce the overall salary, I would spend 60-70k easy on wages for him, he is on  a free, and surely would be worth atleast 5m transfer fee, so we are still  saving 900k, he is a great player with bags of experience.
Who would you want Raul 60-70k
Bellamy 3-7m
Gudjohsen, around 2-3m??
Record goal-scorer for Real and Spain and no player has scored more Champions  league goals. This one really is a no brainer, anyone  thick enough to object to this one, really needs to be publicly flogged outside  the lane. His last season at Madrid was, quiet relative  to his high standards, but he did play allot of games of the bench, he is a big  player but they are a huge club, and had the likes of Ruud Van Nistelrooy, on the bench at times with him, don't forget there aren't many Tottenham players that would get a start for Madrid, definitely none of our strikers, despite Defoe being top quality, Raul is a legend, and has allot to offer Tottenham, in one of our most important seasons on our maiden CL voyage, and fight to stay in the top four.

Flogging a nearly dead horse.(39 games 7 goals) He is a quality player but he wont cope with the week to week season in the EPL. Not worth the cash unless his wages are a hell of a lot less than i imagine. Better buys would be available for 'top dollar' imo.

Flog me outside the Lane if you must but this has to be madness. Surely we can find somebody younger who will get us the goals, Suarez springs to mind.Cost isn't the issue here Raul is finished he would never cope with a season in the prem. Also why are we loaning out Pav to Sporting Lisbon surely not to bring in Raul for a year, and a year in which we'd get 15 games out of him at best has the world gone crazy. Hopefully this is just a silly season story but I fear it may not be.

I do see where you are coming from Dom and I like your forthright attitude but you will have to accept others have opinions and that's just football.
