Theres so many great teams out there that we could get, im just so happy that european nightrs are back at white hart lane. Making this group stage is ahuge achievement for us but i want to qualify from the group and go further! So hopefully we have a decent draw, no trips to Belgrade, Transilvania or Eastern Russia please, hopefully sunny Spain, Italy or southern France! COYS
-
Yup !! Exactly what i had in mind! Its not that being in an easy group would mean that we can reach the last 16. It also doesnt guarantee that we will play against the best and more famous teams in europe if we get to the last 16.
This is why i think the best group for us
Barcelona/Bayern/AC Milan(1st pot)
Roma/Benfica/Valencia(2nd pot)
Tottenham(3rd Pot)
Twente (Would love an easy game lol)
of course my choice would be
Barca
Roma
Tottenham
Twente
Best group for me :D, Oh btw fyi teams of the same nation cant meet each other during group stage.
-
I actually think Barcelona would not be as hard to beat as many feel.... the Spanish league is a joke and only had 2 teams of any quality for the last 3yrs... competitors like Valencia and Sevilla are severly messed-up financially due to profligate presidents spending for their own egos then getting dumped afterwards...
both RM and Barca have had it waaaay too easy and resemble Celtic and Rangers now....
if we play with a compact back4 and restrict them down the middle and have good pace on the counter (Azza and Bazza) we can certainly take Barca.... RM could prove abit harder...
-

That is a brave statement.
-
i'd love an "easy" group if they exist?
-
What a pity we cant play Ajax. I'd have loved to welcome Martin Jol back to The Lane in the Champions League. He got us so close and now we are both there. I still love Martin Jol and Martin Jol still loves me.
-
If we can avoid Real Madrid form pot 2 then I feel we have a chance. Home games are going to be rocking.
I want AC from top group as they are nothing like what they used to be.
-
TBH i don't care who we get. This is what the CL is all about... Real Madrid at the Lane :o , Inter at the Lane :o , Barca at the Lane :o ... what a day out that will be :coys:
-
Lyon
Panathinaikos
TOTTENHAM
Zilina
Whoud be perfect!
-
I would love Barca and Real Madrid in our group.... thats what the CL is all about, otherwise why bother by wishing for the little teams..
just reaching the CL group stage is enough for me.... lets just ENJOY the next 6 games in it, hope for the best but just revel in it win lose or draw.... if we go out of Europe early we have an easier run-in to season-end too, which should help us win the Prem title..
-

Not possible to have both of them, teams from the same country can't be in the same group.
But i agree, i want a big team in our group too
-
We are in Group A
Inter
Werder Bremen
Tottenham
FC Twente
-
Inter have an ageing side and also Rafa Benitez is quite a defensive coach... I fancy we could top this group never mind just qualify..
I think the Inter GK is waaaaaaaaaaaaaayy over-rated.... we will score against that back4..
last 16 should be at least possible... even probable (Bremen are no Bayern Munich and now without Ozil)..
-
Id worry about Bremen more than Inter, Losing their coach certainly didnt help them.
Twente is a threat too. Mcleren is still coaching there right"? Or did he moved somewhere else already?
-
McCleren went to Wolfberg, so Twente have lost there coach too.
Bremen and Twente are Europa league teams at best, i think we should be beating both of them.
-
I think that anyone writing off Inter because they changed their coach is deluding themselves. He might look like a Spanish waiter, but Rafa Benitez has pedigree in this competition and I think it's remiss to even consider writing them off.
They're only 3 months older than when they won the competition...what a difference 90 days can make eh?
-
Yeah i agree, you can't right Inter off just based on the players they have alone.
But on paper we have a better team than Bremen and Twente, we should be looking to go through from this group
-
Inter must be favorites to top the group but I can't see any reason we won't go through from this group. I would be more than happy to reach the knock out stages I think that is sucess from our first champs league adventure.
-
If im honest, i would be happy with 3rd too and going into the Europa League
-
I really dont think it even matters to qualify to the next phase of L - but I do think we will actually win it..
Inter are an ageing team, and tho both Benitez and Mourinho are specialist at eliminating defensive errors which is essential to winning a knock-out contest like the latter stages will be - I think they can be vulnerable to the questions we can ask them..
we have far less pressure to progress and I think that is going to help us to top the group.... after all..
Gallas is certain to play in Europe if not the Prem... that should mean no Dawson against Inter, Bremen and 20...
-
I wouldn't say Inter are an ageing team, they still have young players, Julio Cesar - 29, Lucio - 32, Maicon - 29, Samuel - 29, Chivu - 29, Cambiasso - 30, Sneijder - 26, Eto'o 29, Pandev - 27. Mallito - 31, Muntari - 25 and they all played in the Champions League final last year
That's not exactly AC Milan old, even Chelsea have a older team than that.
I do think at the San Siro will be tough, but we could potentially get 9pts at home

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, GROUP A
September 14 - Werder Bremen v Spurs
September 29 - Spurs v FC Twente
October 20 - Inter Milan v Spurs
November 2 - Spurs v Inter Milan
November 24 - Spurs v Werder Bremen
December 7 - FC Twente v Spurs
-
I live in Italy and have watched Inter run away with Seria A in the last few years. At their best, they are awesome. Even on a bad day they are almost impossible to score against. I don’t fancy our chances at all.
I saw the Werder Bremen against Sampdoria qualifying games on TV and they looked like very good going forward but also very poor when defending. I reckon they will be two games with lots of goals.
No idea about Twente but if we can get 6 points off them, then we probably only need 3 or 4 points against Werder and Inter to get through.
Good news is that it could have been much worse (e.g. Milan, Real Madrid and Auxerre)…..
-
also lets not forget that we can play quite well now against the better teams - teams that will actually come onto us and play an open game.... we can struggle unduly against the Stokes, Wolves and the like...
the only hing that Inter have predominantly in their favour is their huge experience in the CL - but sometimes lack of experience can be a good thing (no negative experiences to dwell on) and the lack of pressure to win and progress will be an advantage...
if we get a Fabiano-type player by 2/9/10 then we are definately in business.. Bremen are a solid side but not hugely talented and they have slow CBs and an ageing slowish Pizarro as main striker. If we match them for industry we have more pace and more options upfront..
we're now passed the stage of needing to win.... we are there now and so lets just enjoy it..
-
McLaren is at Wolfsburg now.
I think we had a fair chance of progress to the round of 16.
Inter are the clear favourites of the group, but I think we're at the same level of Bremen.
-
I think we goot a decent draw in the end . Two games against the reigning champions and two decent sides who i think we can beat but will give us a good test .This is what the ECL is all about.
-
If im honest, i would be happy with 3rd too and going into the Europa League
Must take you up on this Biggsy. We must now consider ourselves to be one of the 'Bigboys' and I believe we are. I think we will grow during the ompetition as well
Always remembering that we will have to come in the top 4 in the league and concentrate on both fronts
We CAN do it I believe wee will progress in the CL We are an improving team and need only fullbacks, and maybe Diarra (Palacios really is off form or not good enough. He will get sent off and leave us withy 10) Sandro may be Great in addition The talent is there. THINK BIG

Bring them on what a great oppertunity to play the best and show Europe what we can do, and i am sure they would have liked other teams than us,playing at home we will not fear anyone.i cant wait surely this is what we wanted, better to slay a wolf than a sheep.
-
Its not that i want to write off Inter. Rafa is a great coach for champs league that has always been the case but we have experiences against Rafa tactic's and i really really think we can go up to them Inter's man to man. Although i wouldnt enjoy Rafa's setpiece's tactics since he is really good at setting up goals from there (And we seem to be conceding from setpieces too).
Nevertheless!!! If we top the group from our home games!! And who knows win 1 of them away games :D Id eat my hat hehe.. right now i just want to enjoy our maiden run in the Group stages...
-
Away from home anywhere in Europe will be tough, but like many have said before Werder Bremen and FC Twente will be beatable. Can we qualify? Oh course, but we must be solid defensively and we have to take our chances at the other end. We have so real good players who can hurt everyone in this competition.
WHL will become a fortress!
-
One thing is for sure as we are talking about the 3 teams in this group and deciding who we can beat etc. There will be other forums for these teams and I bet your bottom dollar that none of them will be saying Tottenham Hotspur that's an easy game. In effect we are an unknown quantity in the CL so no one will be sure how good we are going to be !!!
I personally think we will scrape out of the group in second, but that's fantastic and then we will find out how good we really are !!!!
-
Inter are more than beatable. Just watched them in the Super cup and they looked Poor, they lost 2-0 to A. Madrid
-
Yeah, Julio Cesar didn't even maken an effort on the 2nd goal. The marking was just awful.
-
Im getting optimistic and right now im more afraid of Bremen and Twente to be honest!
-
I will be at all 3 away games (Bremen and Milan sorted) hoping to get a few points... Bremen do concede goals and Twente are beatable away..
None of em will want to come to WHL as the atmosphere will be electric as it was Wednesday night.
Stay Lucky

Does anyone know why we were only given group A as an option?
-
because we couldn't go into C, F and H because Chelsea, Man Utd and Ars*nal where in them groups and 2 teams from the same country can't be in the same group.
Group B, D, E and G already got drew for other teams in pot 3 before we came out.
so the only option left for us to go in was Group A
-
I dont think Inter were too bothered about last night... probably had more on mind about hitting the Casino a la James Bond afterwards..
the Super Cup is a joke trophy akin to the Charity Shield.... Inter will be ever so slightest different in attitude when the real stuff is on the menu...
but we will still challenge them for top spot in group.... make no mistake.
-
that's partly true Biggs, but also it's because Chelsea and Ars*nal were already in groups E-H. It meant that Spurs had to go into A, B or D because they only allowed 2 teams from any nation in one half of the draw for TV scheduling purposes. Stuff had already happened with B and D which left A as the only option. (C had Man United ofc)
