Matchday 5 - (My Picks)

Basel 1-0 Chelsea
Ajax 2-1 Barcelona
(not many results stand out this round, not many upsets)

Group A -

Manchester United are in the knock outs and will finish top with a draw
Shakhtar will advance as group winners with a victory. If they draw, they will go through if Leverkusen do not win. If Shakhtar lose, they will only progress if Leverkusen are also defeated.
Leverkusen will be through with a victory if Shakhtar do not win. A draw will be enough for Leverkusen if Shakhtar lose thanks to their superior head-to-head.
La Real will finish fourth.

Group B -

Madrid are qualified as group winners.
• Juve will be through with a draw courtesy of their head-to-head superiority over FCK.
• Galatasaray will be through with a win due to their head-to-head superiority over FCK.
• FCK cannot finish in the top two because of their head-to-head inferiority to Juve and Galatasaray. FCK will come third if they win or if they draw and Galatasaray lose.

Group C -

• Paris are through as group winners as their head-to-head is superior to Olympiacos.
• Olympiacos have head-to-head superiority over Benfica so will definitely progress with a victory or if Benfica lose.
• To finish second, Benfica must pick up more points than Olympiacos.
• Anderlecht will finish fourth.Group D -Bayern are through and will win the (http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/newsid=2028740.html#)group with a draw or with a defeat that is no bigger than their 3-1 away victory in Manchester.
• City are through and will top the table if they win by more than the 3-1 margin by which they lost at home to Bayern.
• CSKA will come third with a draw or with a defeat that is not greater than their 3-2 home success against Viktoria.
• Viktoria will finish third with a winning margin larger than their 3-2 loss at CSKA.

Group E -

• Chelsea have qualified, yet still need to beat Steaua to guarantee pole position.
• Basel will be top if they collect more points than Chelsea; Schalke will come first if they win and Chelsea lose.
• Schalke must overcome Basel to at least pip the Swiss side to second place.
• Steaua will finish fourth.

Group F -
Ars*nal will clinch qualification, and top spot, with a draw or a victory.
• If Dortmund fail to win, Napoli will advance with a victory – in the event of a three-way head-to-head on 12 points, the two qualifiers will be decided by the precise scorelines between the three teams.
• A draw is only enough for Napoli if Dortmund, who have a superior head-to-head, lose. If Napoli lose they are out.
• Dortmund are through if they win. Should Dortmund draw, they will progress if Napoli do not win. Dortmund can only afford to lose if Napoli are also beaten.
• Marseille will be fourth.

Group G - Atlιtico have won the group.
• Zenit will qualify if they win – or if Porto do not gain victory due to the Russian side's head-to-head superiority.[/• Porto must win and hope Zenit do not.
• Austria will finish fourth

Group H
• Barcelona are through but require a draw to ensure first place as Milan could still overtake them with a victory.
• Milan need a draw to hold off Ajax, who cannot finish above second.
• Celtic are destined for fourth.

Title: Champions League Final Real Madrid v Athletico Madrid
Post by: Paul Finch on May 22, 2014, 05:46:12 AM
Well Sat Night sees Real Madrid play their neighbours Athletico in the CL final, just wondering how many of you guys will be supporting RM, bearing in mind of course that should RM win it will totally vindicate Bale's decision to leave us. Personally I wish him no ill, but I hope to Christ that Bale, Ronaldo, Modric & Co. get well and truly BEATEN.  :ohyeah: :ohyeah:
       Comments Please.

Actually I am inclined to go the other way. I want bale to win the CL, it shows what a great player he was for us and until we as a club can offer that kind of possibility to win a league or in Europe, we have to accept that the great players we have will be a target for the top guns. We do not need to blame the players for this, it is our club that needs to change and rise up to a higher level. Only once this happens and a player leaves us to just go to another side that has the same or less chance of success but maybe more money, will I blame the individual.

Also, if we use the time now to build up and get back into the CL, then I could see Bale returning to Spurs one day.  I think we should keep letting reminding him of how we helped give him this opportunity and that he will always be welcomed back.

So I want to see a Bale hat trick and for him to almost single handedly win the CL, in a way it is the closest we will probably get to winning it.

Much as I hated loosing Bale and how it was handled, I must admit I am really pleased for the lad his move has proved right for him and becoming CL winner in his first season at the same time helping Real Madrid to the their first win of the tournament in 12 years!

Our Bale has certainly had an impact on one of the biggest and most successful teams in the world!

I forgot to add that Tottenham will be given 20 million due to claws in the deals with Bale & Modric.

Southend that is great news, BUT, when will RM pay that? bearing in mind that they still haven't yet paid the the full amount of the transfer fees for neither Modric or Bale. Methinks that they might hope we forget!!!!! :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
