Title: Spurs sign Younes Kaboul?
Post by: SpursManDan on May 02, 2007, 04:06:41 PM
Article in today's Daily Mail:

Tottenham have reportedly agreed a £7.5million fee with Auxerre for French defender Younes Kaboul.

The 21-year-old centre back has attracted interest from Lyon, Liverpool and Portsmouth, but reports in France today claimed a deal has been struck with Spurs.

Head coach Martin Jol is anxious to bolster his defensive options next season and is understood to have watched Kaboul play for Auxerre against Lyon last month.

Club representatives were spotted at Auxerre's goalless draw against Lyon this month and boss Martin Jol is believed to have been one of them.

Spurs have been short of cover at the back this season with captain Ledley King only recently returned after a long-term foot injury.

Fellow centre half Anthony Gardner has not played since breaking his leg against Chelsea in March.

Does anyone know this guy?  I hope he's good!!!???

A bit about him

Younes Kaboul (born January 4, 1986 in France) is a professional football player who currently plays for Auxerre, and the French under 21 national team.

The imposing defender, standing at 190cm tall, is a regular player for Auxerre, and won the Coupe de France in 2005, as well as having European football experience in the UEFA Cup. He has been known to be the 'back bone' for Auxerre, due to his excellent tackling skills, good judgement and strength. He has also been known to score a few key goals to clinch the game for Auxerre.

In November 2006, Kaboul revealed that he could be interested in a transfer to Rangers, after speaking to France under 21 team-mate and Rangers player Jeremy Clement. He is also reported to be attracting interest from A.S. Roma and Inter Milan. A transfer to English Premiership side Portsmouth FC has also been mooted, after their manager, Harry Redknapp, was reportedly spotted scouting the player recently.

Auxerre have already rejected a £6million offer from Portsmouth and Inter, in the January transfer window. It is hardly surprising considering Kaboul is Auxerres best prospect for the future, with the likely-hood of playing for France.

Thats a really good point though, we could teach Zokora to play more attackingly minded and have King at DM and Zok at AM.

Oh and I doubt King would be happy playing DM, he wasnt under Pleat, but did it as we severely lacked options.

King said at the time that he didn't like DMC.  He is a Centre Back through and through.  Do we really want to play our best defender out of position?!  I wouldn't....!!

Nah keep King at the back were he's at his best. We'll lose more than we would gain from putting him in DM. He's a top class defender, so lets keep him there.

He's a brilliant defender, I have been monitoring his progress for a while. He's strong in the air, quick, strong, he has been used in midfield a couple of times to for Marseilles as well. Commanding centre back who won't find life hard in the Premiership in my opinion. He is also the captain of the French under 21's.

What a signing he will be.

Tottenham have reportedly opened talks with Auxerre over the possible transfer of Younes Kaboul.

L'Equipe claims that the North London side are engaged in negotiations with their French counterparts and that the impressive defender could cost in the region of €11million (£7.5million).

Kaboul has caught the eye of a number of clubs this season with his strong displays, and both Lyon and Fiorentina are also understood to be keen on the French Under 21 captain.

However, Martin Jol and his sporting director Damien Comolli appear to have made the first move by kick-starting talks with the Ligue 1 side.

Kaboul's team-mate Bakari Sagna has also been linked with a move to White Hart Lane in recent weeks, and the right-back has admitted he is keen for a change of scenery with Lyon, Marseille, Paris Saint Germain and Monaco also believed to be following his progress.

However, Sagna is unhappy with the prohibitive price tag - believed to be €10million (£6.8million) - that Auxerre have placed on his head.

"My future is not at Auxerre any more, I want to leave and it is not new," Sagna told L'Equipe.

"The officials told me I won't leave. I am surprised by the transfer fee they have set, it is a shame.

"They should not be so selfish and think also about the player's interest.

"The sum asked by Auxerre is exorbitant and I think that it is not fair play.

"I know clubs like Paris, Marseille, Lyon and Monaco are following me. I am also attracted by England and Spain."

Seems a huge price, even the player himself thinks that. He does sound good though.

Lets hope we get him if he is that promising, but as previously said will he be happy sitting on the bench sometimes.

Post by: THWH90 on May 22, 2007, 01:59:49 PM
Younes Kaboul is apparently going to be signing in a week according to sources from France. It looks as though we will be paying €12million (£8.2million) for him. Kaboul is set to sign a four-year contract with Tottenham.

Lyon and Fiorentina were also keen, but the 21-year-old looks to have chosen the ambitious North London club, who will be playing in the Uefa Cup again next season.

Title: Kaboul Signing VERY VERY LIKELY
Post by: THWH90 on May 23, 2007, 09:19:49 AM
According to spursweb.com Spurs have agreed a £7.4 million deal, beating Lyon and Fiorentina to it. However on the money front, there are also talks in France of a £8.2million deal being finalised by Sunday.

Apparently they are currently undergoing contract talks with a 4/5 year contract length.

And after an interview on the radio, it seems he is heading for the EPL;

I want a change, I have come to an age where I want to progress and see something else," Kaboul said on French sports radio station RMC-Infos on Tuesday.

"The English championship (lol, doesn't know the english leagues's properly) really interests me. I want to play in this league.
"Tottenham are a very good club, who want to do something."

He added: "Nothing has been done yet but we are talking about a contract for four or five years."
Title: Kaboul's Dream Club = Ars*nal!
Post by: THWH90 on May 23, 2007, 12:18:01 PM
Kaboul told French sports radio station RMC-Infos: "I want a change, I have come to an age where I want to progress and see something else.

"The English championship really interests me. I want to play in this league.”

Unimpressed Spurs fans have not been slow to point out, that Tottenham are in the Premiership.

Some Tottenham supporters are a little more concerned about reports that Ars*nal are Kaboul’s “dream” club. This has led to a shocking headline in the Daily Mail: “Sorry, Spurs, but your £8m signing dreams of Ars*nal”.

The point is journalists put words in players’ mouths a lot of the time, so we can’t read too much into this. But we can conclude the Daily Mail is pandering to Ars*nal fans.

Kaboul also said: "I am young and ambitious.

"I want to play for another club.

“But my eyes aren't bigger than my belly, I don't want to join too big a club."

That final line is yet another faux pas. Let’s hope Kaboul gets some media training from Spurs when he finally arrives so he can avoid more foot in the mouth moments.

On the plus side, Kaboul mentioned: "Tottenham are a very good club, who want to do something."

The deal is expected to be concluded after Auxerre play their last game of the season on Saturday 26th May.

Spurs look set to conclude the £8.2m signing of central defender Younes Kaboul today.

The French Under-21 international is understood to have undergone a medical at White Hart Lane since he played in Auxerre's final game of the season on Saturday - and boss Martin Jol still wants funds to help purchase Charlton forward Darren Bent and Sporting Lisbon left winger Nani.

Wheres that come from? lol

Bale  £5 million
Kaboul £8 million
Nani £13.5 million
Bent £10-12 million

Unless maths has changed, thats £36 million odd.

And we will get money for Ghaly, Mido possibly Chimbonda, and a couple of others.

You never know kaboul could be it for the window, unless we draft in a few more young bloods for ghaly and mido. Heard that kaboul can play DM, and given bale is also a possible LM, these 2 players along could sort alot of problems, giving zokora more of a attacking role which i think he'll relish. However given an interview i read from jol recently he said something like he want's his CB's going foward more, as he wants us to play "total football", and he may fulfill this role more then dawson does.

For all the speculation theres nothing really linking us to bent other then he's english. He isn't worth 10-mil.

We have been informed that France under-21 International, Younes Kaboul, has passed his medical with flying colours!

Sources close to the club have stated that Auxerre have now done a u-turn on the £4.7 million offered by Tottenham Hotspur for the 6ft 4in stopper.

We are not aware of the valuation set by Auxerre, but rumours are circulating that the French outfit are demanding £6 million up front, with a further £1.5 on appearances and Tottenham's progression with Kaboul.

The differences in valuation should be sorted out with the next two weeks.

We will keep you posted on any further Kaboul updates.

If all this is true, we will have to loose either Gardner or Rocha, will we ever need 5 CB's!??

UNLESS MJ is thinking he cant guarentee we ill have Ledders for all of next season, if he was out - and the unthinkable were to happen, say Daws or Rocha was to break a leg - with 5 CB's at the club we would still have 2 good players infront of Robbo with another still in waiting on the bench????

Maybe we wont sell untill Leder's can show he will not be carrying injuries for the whole of his playing life????

We absolutely do need 5 CBs at club at present - remember last season - being reduced to playing Chimbonda at CB?

We can't rely on Ledley - great player but injury-prone

As far as I can see Gardner is a better CB than Rocha - and from what I remember Jol thought so too as he picked a fit TG in front of him

Fact is Daws and Rocha are not a pacy combo

So why people (on various sites) keep talking of selling TG is beyond me

Ok if we buy Kaboul/Davies and whoever proves they can play at prem level then think of selling one CB - but not before

It's also worth noting that TG gives us extra cover at LB

I have a feeling that Rocha might be good as RB cover -

Auxerre have revealed that star defender Younes Kaboul is closing in on a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The France Under 21 captain has been a long-term transfer target for Martin Jol and sporting director Damien Comolli, and weeks of negotiations now appear to be bearing fruit.

Auxerre vice-chairman Gerard Bourgoin has admitted that the highly-rated youngster is close to signing a contract with the Premier League side, in a deal worth a reported £8.2million.

"The negotiations are very advanced," Bourgoin told AFP. "The discussions are very serious with Tottenham but there are still a number of details to finalise.

"But we can remain optimistic about the end of the negotiations."

Spurs already boast young international defenders in Ledley King and Michael Dawson, and the imminent acquisition of Kaboul will further underline their determination to build a squad capable of challenging for a top-four spot.

Fair Enough Lyubo :) But if Spurs had to play tomorrow it would be Daws and TG starting - if Daws is still injured it would be RR & TG-

TG is proven prem quality and I think we he will show that again next season - I'm hoping RR can do that too - though something tells me he'll be a better RB than CB - but it's early days with him yet - I certainly see him as a utility player -

That's why for me it would be a mistake to ship out either - and so far (and far more importantly) it seems that Jol & Co are of a similar belief

For me, both defenders should be starting as few games as possible, it makes me worry for our defence especially if Rocha is @ CB.

They are both useful though for the early stages of the domestic Cup games though. And Rocha may be really good @ CB in the European games...

I thought Rocha did pretty well when he was played at Left Back at the end of the season and I think with a full preseason programme he may well be better this term. I would certainly prefer him to Gardner whos defending in any position scares me half to death.

I have to agree Gardner has never instilled me with hope either...and ROCHA, well I will give him one more chance, just to see if some time and pre-season will pay off for him.

I hope Kaboul can settle straight in, King will most probably miss the start of the season. As you all say, Gardner doesnt instill us with much confidence when he plays. Normally takes a couple of games for him to settle in, even then he's still usless. Keep Rocha though, versatile and a decent defender.

Defo need another quality CB so hoping Kaboule is him, dread to think how much better we would of been last season if king hadnt been out for so long or if we had some1 quality filling in. Wonder how many goals gardner was at fault for either directly or indirectly, im guessing quite a few.

I think TG is a good defender and we need to keep him

If we were to play tomorrow it would be Daws & TG to start, if Daws is still injured it would be TG & RR

Read this in the Telegraph this morning...

Tottenham appear to be moving closer towards signing France Under-21 defender Younes Kaboul from Auxerre.

Spurs manager Martin Jol has already signed left-back Gareth Bale for £10 million from Southampton but wants to bolster his numbers in defence.

Auxerre vice-chairman Gerard Bourgoin said: "The negotiations are very advanced."

Kaboul, 21, has impressed in the French top flight and is valued at about £8 million. Jol also has his captain, Ledley King, recovering from knee surgery.

"The discussions are very serious with Tottenham but there are still a number of details to finalise," added Bourgoin on skysports.com. "But we can remain optimistic about the end of the negotiations."

Jol is expected to strengthen further this summer and has targeted a left midfielder, while also being strongly linked with Charlton striker Darren Bent.

Charlton, however, have warned Spurs and other interested clubs that they will unable to buy the England striker cheaply.

West Ham had a £17 million bid for Bent accepted by relegated Charlton last week, but the 23-year-old rejected a switch to Upton Park in the hope of moving to White Hart Lane or Liverpool.

Charlton chief executive Peter Varney insists they will not be forced into accepting a lower bid for their prized asset and will play him in the Coca-Cola Championship if necessary.
